1983 Harley Davidson XLH1000 Ironhead Sportster | Build Ep.2
Welcome back!
In this video I go through some necessary maintenance steps to take when not only buying a vintage motorcycle but any used motorcycle. Who knows when the last time the oil was changed?! It's easy and ensures that when the bike does fire up and you go for a ride that all is good under your butt. There's obviously way more to check and adjust before a bike is road worthy, these are just specific to this situation and getting the bike to run.
Stay tuned for the next video - hopefully this ironhead will fire up!
Thanks for watching!

I HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL!! Harley XL1200 Custom
มุมมอง 783 ปีที่แล้ว
I had to go to the hospital....to drop off something to the wife lol! Ya ya ya, click-bait, I know. But I took Mineral Springs/Sulphur Springs Rd home - it's a pretty good road around here. This early in the spring though the road was pretty dirty from the winter so I took it easy :) Music by: bensound.com
Harley Davidson Sportster XL1200 Custom - ASMR
มุมมอง 1.5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
After a long day, the best way to unwind is a nice ride in the country. No talking, no thinking, no phone, no distractions. Just me, my carbureted motorcycle, and the open road. This style video isn't for everyone, but it's a style that I frequently watch and enjoy (especially during the winter here in Ontario). Next time, I'll position a secondary mic somewhere on the bike to try and get the p...

First Ride of 2021 - Giant Squid Mic Test!
มุมมอง 1853 ปีที่แล้ว
Motovlog #1 Just a quick ride on my 2001 XL1200 Custom Sportster on the first decent day of 2021 here in Ontario! Making sure the Giant Squid microphone is all that it's hyped up to be and that my GoPro angle is spot on. Let me know what you think!
Not a bad video, so I'll give you that coveted "big thumbs up," even though you said "...100,000 kilometers..." around the 6:20 mark. I do agree with most of your points, although "customizable" is not a trait specific to a Sportster as all bikes can be customized. Pretty good effort for someone whom I am going to guess calls Canada home! (So did my Grandpa George, but he did our family a favor and moved to The States 100 years ago.)
YOU babble too much!
Iron Heads Sportster = scrambler hill climb dirt bike, EVO Sportster = Street cruiser and non-touring sport bike, Twin Can powered Hog = Long Range Cruiser, they all excel at what they do! A Harley is like a good woman, they are not care free, or worry free but they just feel so good riding them! Nothing even comes close!
My #1 reason is they are the most fun you can have with your pants on!
New 1986 XLH liberty 1986 cost 5900 dollars Machine Gun sound. My old 1880 iron Sportster was better loud with an old seventies carburetor, later with a S &S and not as loud pipe didn’t sound good as the 1986 1100cc liberty. The 2001 1200cc with loud Vance pipes really doesn’t even sound as good as that 1100cc did with the original exhaust pipes
A 2.4 gallon tank is like 16 sticks of dynamite
Sick!!!!!
Any parts left
I owned a 75 ironhead 1000. Loved the sound and also wasnt very much vibration. Sold it to a guy who wanted to make a chopper. Kicked myself.
Is a 1200 considered a girls bike,,im 67 and need to downsize from my roadglide ,,,will a 1200 work for a man
The reason some people might think they are girls bikes is because they are smaller and easier to handle, which sounds exactly like what you are looking for. Huge step down in comfort though, you could also try a Dyna or Softail which are also smaller but more comfortable. I don’t know anything about the newer models.
I have held off from buying the 1200 for exactly what you said,,ones i have rode are pretty rough riding compared to a dyna or heritage...presntly looking for a deal on marketplace,,alot of overpriced dynas but the heritage models are reasonably priced...trying to spend less than 6k as i wont be riding that much..def miss not having a bike for those afternoons when i want to get away for a hour or two
@@charliesmith9528 I would have to pay double that for a good used example of those over here in the Netherlands. You guys are lucky!
@@brb653 What do people in Netherlends think of our countries present situation with a clearly demented pres and a cackling vp qho just may be our next pres,,im always curiuous how people in other countries view the USA as it is today,,its changed alot for the worse,,so much immoral crap made legal in last 4 years,,soory i know its off topic but had to ask as i fear with ptrsent leadership we will soon be dragged into war with russia and iran...as for pricing on bikes i live in sc ..harleys here are 3k higher than same harleys in northern states like wisconsin,,really makes no sense..
Beautiful man, just beautiful
Picking up a 95 1200C in two days. So stoked. Your bike sounds real nice
good video! but Lose the annoying music!! thanks
Sweet looking bike and mods!
My sportster is Rock & Roll.
🤘
I have an orginal 1974 XLH, love it
Sporty !
Nice! Glad you found the same mirror. If I'm not mistaken, in one of you other videos you said you own three or four sportsters? What years sportsters?
I think I answered y own question LOL, saw your other videos and it looks like you have a 1983, 1997 and 2001. 👍
Correct at the time. Will do an update video soon. Thanks for watching 🤘
The more I watch your videos the more I want a 2003 Sportster! Nice ride man. Ride safe, cheers!
They're nice bikes! Thanks for watching 🤘
Excellent video! I completely agree that solid-mounted evo models are the best. I'm currently on the lookout for an '03 Sportster myself. Ride safe, and cheers!
That’s what I’m thinking too. My FZ1 is too much for my 45mph commute.
Dude, where vids go? Just found them really enjoying. Hope you’re blessed and well.😎👍🏻
I know, I've gotta get back to editing! I've just been wrenching and recording. Hopefully soon I'll post an update. Thanks for the support 🤘
Dude, lovely bike. Is the tank the standard 2.1 Gallon Peanut or something else? It seems bigger than 2 gallon to me??
Thanks man, this XL1200C had the stock 3.3gal peanut tank.
What are those exhaust pipes they look nice thinking of getting the same ones
Vance N Hines straight shots - IMO the best exhaust for a solid mount Evo sporty. Look + performance 🤘
Is that the original speedometer? What kit did you use for the relocation?
Original speedometer and cables/wires. The relocation bracket is from DK customs
How about that saddle bag where’s that from ?
@@James.Bywater it's a Willie & Max swingarm bag. I can't remember where I got it from, but I think Amazon has them
Thanks man one more question what kit did you use for the horn relocation
@@James.Bywater no kit, I just bent and shaped a piece of flat stock and bolted into the regulator top mount
That piano music is destroying your videos
Thanks for watching!
what windscreen are you running in this video, and does it help with head winds beating helmet at all
Sorry man, I have no idea. Probably got it from a swap meet or something. For wind buffeting, you've got to play with the angle and height of your windscreen. There's lots of videos to get you started but in the end you've just gotta adjust it until you get it right.
I am on the lookout for an evo sportster (883 or 1200 I am not picky), partly because I am a smaller guy and like the idea of a smaller, lighter cruiser. But also I love the idea of doing a 1250/1275 kit on it + handling upgrades and making it rip! Something about a small/light cruiser that handles with gobs of power just really calls to me, and those evo sporties are pretty cheap nowadays!
no thanx, never. ill stick with my rigid big inch choppers
Did mine with a sweater. Turned out good
You said it right. The Sportster was the perfect machine for the guy that wanted a bare bones riding experience. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Unfortunately Harley decided to fix it.
Awsome bike! I got the same one, what size your ape hanger ? Thanks you! 😎
12" 👍
kill the bs music & Ill watch it
👍🏼👍🏼
Good video. But the music is too loud sir
Noted, thanks for your input. I appreciate the feedback 👍
I like the way you break it all diwn so I can understand mire better. Thanks 🙏🏻
Glad it helped. Ride safe! 🤘
I like the way you explained it. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks! An update coming soon 🤘
so I got an 83 basket case . do you have anymore video on your 83 I noticed a front motor mount . is there a top motor mount ? also I see how the battery box goes on .
Yes I've got lots of footage on the build, just have to get around to editing it - stay tuned! And yes, there's a top motor mount.
@@ironridermoto ok I found it I think and I found the front one I'll send a picture if I can show you what I'm up against. thanks again
@@ironridermoto; I don't know how to do it
How long is your clutch cable?
It really depends on the bars you're running. Mock up the cable routing by using an extension cord or something, then measure it to find the length you need. Thanks for watching! 🤘
I'm probably too late to the party........still have the seat or bag mounts??
I might have the bag mounts still but the seat and most other parts are sold
IMO, HD has all but guaranteed all EVO/previous Sportsters icon status with the release of the liquid cooled Sportster S. That bike is over $20k out the door. A gently used or even late release EVO can easily be had for around $10/11k. Easy choice for many if not most as the bikes are from 2 different worlds despite sharing the Sportster name. Maybe that’s all part of the plan… It’ll be interesting to see where the Sportster goes from here. Time will tell
Nice bike. I was looking at one just like it. Do you still have it and is it running good?
I don't still have it, sold it for more projects. But it was a perfect running bike, and I can only assume it still is as it only had less than 40,000 kms or so
Man you nailed it 🔥🫡
Bought a brand new '06 1200R, was a total beast! Blew the doors off big twins with 70hp and 79 ft pounds of torque. I could take corners so fast by rolling back the throttle lifting the front end and it would naturally set it self straight. I sent every piece of chrome to the powder coaters and murdered it out, nxt thing you seen Harley do was copy my idea and turned out the Nightster. I'm sorry, but that was just the corniest name they could come up with. I'd have called it "Black Iron" as that Iron name was cool. I ended up selling it to a good friend who bought it for his son, it was nice having friends getting into riding street bikes after I got into it. These guys rode dirt forever and the transition was seamless for them. I ended up with an '05 1200 Custom I bought on the cheap from a guy who was wrecked by some thoughtless @-hole who pulled out in front of him. Put him in a wheelchair dead from the neck down. Know what though? He was the coolest most upbeat person I think I have ever met. I called him on a Sunday and had to wait till monday to get the money out off the bank, called him Monday to tell him I was a grand short and I apologized for wasting his time. He didn't know me from Adam and told me he would float me till I got the rest and let me take the bike home while he held the paper. A month later I showed up with $500 and he gave me the paper and said not to worry about the rest. I had to replace the entire front end of that bike, the wheel was bent in half like a taco shell. I took it all apart down to the spoke nipples and put them on a leather lanyard and wore it for a while. My intent was to give it to the man after I had all my people hold it and put good spirits into it. About a month after I gave it to him he regained the full use of his left arm, I'm choked up right now remembering how over the top thrilled he was. Like he just received a new lease on life, I swear he looked like he was going to float right outta that chair. I'll never forget that man, Al Viado, a hell of a good human being who could have sank into the darkest recesses and no one would have held it against him. But he went a different way and was all the better for it and his positivity was infectious no one could escape it.
Wonder how that has held up over time?
I like your windshield ...
I Love mine too !!! Here it is ... th-cam.com/video/kwmnXgfkzUM/w-d-xo.html
Are you still fixing up the iron head ?
I've been done for a long time, but unfortunately time is what I don't have to edit videos... One coming soon!
Wound up selling it and getting the 07 harley chopper in new vid chopper Ohio trip. Check it out... I guess I need to do a update vid on the old girl. The guy I sild it to did a nice job with it and turned around and sild it again lol so she's off somewhere in KY.
Let's see how many Stormbreaker the Chinese sells. They did not copy the big twins .
I have had my Sportster for 25 years and four hundred thousand miles on her.
This! I love it man, congrats! 👊
A rubber gasket cut to shape under the visor clips would help with wind noise I bet… And maybe 3d printed plastic or rubber plug for the switch hole. I bet a bunch of companies online could make one for you
I thought the exact same thing for the switch plug and any other open vent
