    Brilliant video. I was born in Munster and lived in Germany until I was 12. My Dad was in REME and his last 2 postings were Sennelager where we lived in a scheme of flats called Legoland and then moved to Paderborn (My old man was attached to 3RTR) where we lived on Sattyweg. I think you drove past my old Primary School early in the video. I moved on to John Buchan Middle School after that. We left in 1983 so much will have changed but an awful lot looks so familiar. I am planning a trip back there next year and seeing this has just confirmed that I need to do it. Thank you for posting, it has reminded me of some great memories.

    We left Osnabrück for Tidworth in 1993. We lived on that huge Army estate in Belm. The tank regiment in Imphal barracks was 4RTR, which was stationed there from 1984-1993 and then amalgamated with 1RTR

    I love your video series on the Romantic Road, thanks for taking us along. :) Aww...I wished you would've read up a bit more about the castle and location before, because you would've had a better, more exciting experience. For one, you really need to book tickets before arriving to get inside, and two, you apparently missed out on the best (and free!) view of the castle. It's that million bucks view you see everywhere online. It's one thing to see it in a picture but the other to experience it in person. It's from a bridge nearby, high up above a gorge and waterfall. You directly look at the flank of the castle with the fields, hills and lakes in the background. Wished you could've seen it, especially as a fan of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Maybe another time.

    The video title is a bit confusing for me as a German. In German the terms "up" and "down" are typically used in relation to the flow of a river. "Up" means going towards the source of the river, which usually corresponds to moving upstream, and "down" means going towards the mouth of the river, which corresponds to moving downstream, regardless of cardinal directions like north or south xD

    • @Ubiquetravellers
      @Ubiquetravellers 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Bernard, I will try and use that terminology when I next make a video to do with rivers or streams. Thank you very much for the information. Much appreciated.

  • @BerndFunken
    @BerndFunken 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    At 7:12 you look at the shrine with the remains of the three wise man (or magi). In Germany we call them "the three holy kings". The whole cathedral was build around and for that shrine, means you were looking at the heart and center of the Cologne Cathedral.

    Thanks you guys for also taking me down memory lane. I'm English 53 yrs. Live in Osnabrück now for over 35 years, remember the army and all the fun we had back then. My sister married a REME soldier in 1988 and eventually moved back to the UK. Our family stayed here (Dad German) lovely to see you drive round and to see everything, it's really changed but I can't quite remember everything either. Thank you both so much for a beautiful trip down memory lane, when the world was still a good and happy place. Well done on getting into the Sol Pelicanos without getting chucked out, seen other bloggers turned away. Interior shots for Benidorm were in a place known as the pink house, up the road opposite your original park up and turn left onto Avenida Severo Ochoa. There's a great campsite up the lane by the side of the park up, Camping Armanello, one way from the other end though.
