Can one get this job with Bachelors degree on statistics
@@kenechukwuvictor8858 which job? I’m a data analyst with a bachelors in statistics so yea lol
Hi Christian, I just came across the video. I have been looking for data scientist and data analyst job for over an year now. And i noticed that for most interviews i have with company, they asked for leetcode questions. And that is where i am suck at. Cuz i dont practice and have that many time spent doing leetcode questions like CS major stuludens had. Do you think it's a common thing to test leetcodes, and do you recommend spending time on practicing that?
How do you foresee ai interacting with data analyst and statistician jobs in the next few years
@@Steveatetheicecream it already is, we use it on a daily basis to help us write queries and code.. we are working on AI with other use cases as we speak, data agents, AI filtering in dashboards, etc
@ do you think it will take over the role entirely soon? I’m currently getting a MPH and interested in biostatistics although my main worry is I haven’t had any experience in R or SQL. Do you think these coding skills are essential for the roles? I’ve heard you talk about them a bit, just came across your channel yesterday
@ SQL at the bare minimum I would say .. I feel like for biostats you would want some R and/or Python experience too
@ appreciate the info, I’ve been looking into some additional classes so that’s good to know
@@Steveatetheicecream and no I don’t think it will take over the job “soon” but I do think the job will significantly change over the next 10 years .. adopt or die
The simple fact of the matter is: There are too many people with data science/analytics/etc. degrees, and not enough jobs. DA will be quickly automated by AI. And every college on earth is pushing DA certs/bachelor's/masters/online degrees. Meanwhile, the (also unemployed) statistics bachelors/masters/PhD grads will take your job anyway and be underpaid for it. If you are reading this, this is your warning: If you haven't already, DO NOT get a bacherlors/masters/cert/PhD in data analytics, data science, "applied ML," statistics, or econometrics, unless you KNOW FOR A FACT that you have a solid network and a guarunteed job set up post grad. The above can be generalized to most degrees as well. Most specifically finance, but increasingly, many other degrees. I personal advice is start brainstorming a back up plan now. You could risk more school in an effort to become "more qualified" to beat the competition, but this also may just be a case of sunk cost fallacy. Unless you are a math genius who thinks he can do a PhD in ML, NLP, quant finance, or something else incredible like that, you are taking a large risk while making the universities rich and recieving in return a low, - if not negative - expected return. Sam altman is currently raising and paying MILLIONS to the smartest people on earth at OpenAI with mission statement of automating all middle class jobs and deliberately and permanently destroying the middle class and locking the lower class into permanent poverty while concentrating all wealth into a smaller and smaller select few who "own" the businesses.
Bc the ai does thet now lol
@@HailAzathoth as a data analyst… nah not yet
I have no professional experience in the field but I do have personal projects, I was able to land one interview through a connection at jetblue but eventually they passed on me because they had someone who had more experience lined up. Despite passing their technical interview, even that wasn’t enough. I haven’t had a Data analysis interview since and this was in October 2024. I am eager to learn and grow professionally within a company, I’d even take minimum wage because I value experience much more but it’s been really challenging even passing the ATS system.
@@mon3ylounge what is the ATS system? And what kind of experience do you have through your personal projects?

Brother I am taking a bachelor in automation with robotics engineering, should I take another year to study statistics and data science(I will have to take to extra courses during robotics bachelor to get statistics bachelor) ir jump straight to master degree in robotics. So is a year in statistics worth it in robotics field? Or should I drop it?
@bawankhalid1209 mehhhh.. I’m not sure, what would you be adding with a statistics degree?
I liked math in school. I’m currently a freshman at Bentley(a university in Massachusetts known for business) and my major is actuarial science. Only completed my first semester so haven’t learned much just yet. To keep my options pretty broad I basically planned what classes I want to take on top of my major courses for my next 7 semesters. It’s a mix of economics, statistics/data science, finance, and computer science. Although I’m studying to become an actuary now my back up options if I end up hating it are data scientists with a focus in machine learning engineering, or some type of risk management, or financial engineering. Don’t really know just yet. I’ve planned my 4 years so I’ll eventually learn skills like SQL, R, machine learning, NPL, VBA, etc. Maybe one day I’ll come back and update this comment and say where I end up.
@@kamilandrew you are on the path my friend, good luck and I expect a great update in 3 years
Hey Christian, good advice! I can absolutely confirm what you're saying and I think that this actually applies to many more professions. I work as an ML engineer and my masters degree in data analytics definitely helped me get this job. Also all my other colleagues have master degrees. Although I think it's absolutely possible to do this job or get this job with "just" an undergrad degree, you certainly have an advantage over other applicants. I am interested in where you studied and what courses you have taken. I'm thinking of adding another master degree in applied statistics at university of strathclyde (remote) and I would love to hear your opinion on what courses they offer in that program. Thanks! :) Ps: awesome last name (Gardner is Gärtner in German, which is my last name 😂)
@@marvingartner5587 I don’t have a masters degree personally! However you will likely be taking courses in probability, hypothesis testing, analytics, anova, regression, maybe surveying, etc.
Can you suggest universities that offer online Msc/ PG in statistics .
@@fathimathshahla.c959 what is PG? And as far as online idk, I liked my university and they do have a statistics masters.. check out Penn state world campus
Hi, I’m currently a senior in high school and I’m interested in statistics, I have a couple of questions. Math isn’t my strong suit and I sucked at it in HS, but I feel statistics would be really interesting to learn, would I be able to gain that mathematical brain in college? Also, which is better, statistics B.A or B.S?
This is how it went for me, I actually never liked math all that much.. i took Calc in highschool and it didn’t really click. Until I had an amazing calc 1 professor in college, I wasn’t even in a math related major. So yes it is very very possible to develop a math brain in college, just like any other skill it is something you develop over time! Best of luck in your journey
Data analyst cons are its so easy to get into so the competition is extensive
@@YgwzyfwzVueuegxeu relatively easy for an entry level role sure
You inspired me to choose statistics as my major. For so long I was terrified of choosing the wrong degree for me. But what you had once mentioned stuck with me: “being able to use statistics to your advantage makes you feel like a wizard” or something like that. I had found that quote pretty funny; but what I had taken away from that was, that if I could learn to think like a statistician and apply that to my life, I’d be able to accomplish anything I’d put my mind to, even if I wanted to pivot to alternative career in my life.
@@skeet_joystick422 this was one of the most meaningful comments I’ve got on my channel, thank you so much for letting me know! And I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

@@DTA-me3kv one person wins every time yep

They say the same about masters programs.. but as time passes, the computer science masters and the data science masters are pretty much the same. Take UT Austin for example their masters of computer science and data science are nearly one and the same and it gives you choice of classes, so if I end up taking 6/10 classes at align with the data science masters, I’d still have a computer science degree but it’s only different in title…content wise computer science would have more systems courses but the data science degree would have probability/stats based for the remaining 4 classes
@@Atlas92936 key word is masters in this situation imo.. I am referring only to a bachelors degree
Here’s a concrete example: Masters in Computer Science(10 classes): Algorithms Machine Learning Deep Learning Reinforcement Learning Natural Language Processing Linear Algebra for Computing Parallel Systems Optimization Advances in Deep Learning Case Studies in Machine Learning Masters in Data Science: Probability Casual Inference Data Structures and Algorithms Machine Learning Deep Learning Natural Language Processing Regression and Predictive Modeling (I’m guessing this relates to vectorized statistical models rather than ml models) Advanced Predictive Models Advances in Deep Learning Reinforcement Learning
@@ChristianGardnerah gotcha, yeah I caught it after typing out my comment. For an undergrad degree I agree. A hard science like Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics would be better
@@Atlas92936 also part of my argument is that the professors teaching the DS “versions” of these classes may not be as well equipped to teach them … if you are taking the SAME EXACT classes as the hard science courses then sure, the major can prove to be useful!
I think the problem a lot of people have is that, while they don't know what they want to do, they also need to major in something they are good at to meet GPA requirements. Most people don't excel or like anything that is going to make them a lot of money. If you're not good at STEM in HS, your options are serverly limited.
I wasn’t necessarily “good” at STEM in HS.. but ended up switching to a math major from Nursing after my first semester in college. College is a HUGE investment, like seriously you are paying tens of thousands of dollars to get an education and it’s my opinion that you should have a real plan for (realistic) what you want to do after you graduate .. run the numbers with what that job makes in your local area and determine if that’s a worthwhile path .. REGARDLESS if it is in STEM or not
Is a managerial economics and a minor in computer science, just as good as a statistics major?
@@Messp idk anything about managerial economics and what do you mean by good
@ “good” meaning job security. Can you please look up managerial economics and give me your feedback please
I clicked on this video because I remember really enjoying taking my statistics class but I hate math so I definitely would not have majored in it. I also wanted to say that I also went through a lot of different paths with finding which major was for me and I finally figured out from a starting point of political science to fisheries that I really want to be a zoology major and work in the museum that I volunteer at! All it takes is a little bit of exploring and experiencing things firsthand to actually know if you want to do it for forever!
That is awesome! Even if you aren’t interested in statistics, thanks for tuning in and sharing your journey!

in which class in college would I learn how to do the data engineer role you described using SQL and such?
