Flagstaff Frenzy 2024 Open Marathon Mountain Bike Race
Here is the first 3/4 lap of the 2024 Flagstaff Frenzy 2024 Open Marathon Mountain Bike Race. Sadly, my battery died right before hitting the best downhill segment of the course. For 2024, the course consisted of 3 laps of the 14 mile black route. Each lap had about 1500 feet of climbing.

Corona de Loma downhill mountain bike run at South Mountain, Arizona. Pretty sure this has a double black diamond rating. Not as gnarly as Sunset Ridge. Starts out with a bit of exposure and a handful of tight switch backs, some of which have the potential to throw you over the bars if you're not paying attention. Towards the end, you'll find a few nice stretches where you can pick up some spee...

Climbing National Trail South Mountain - Mountain Biking

Today I'm climbing UP National Trail on mountain bike out at South Mountain, Arizona. Most people prefer riding down National Trail due to the technical difficulty and steep gradient. There are quite a few technical features that will require most riders to put some time and effort into practicing before they'll clear them with consistency. I spent a solid few months when I first got into ridin...

Are you still happy with the bike? Any complains? Thx in advance.
What about the west part of national?
I've done coast to coast to coast and have a vid with a few clips heading west. Some fun trails out that way!
Just did buy one with a 54% discount. I hope it's good
I've put around 2k miles on the bike and still have no complaints. Enjoy!
@@jonsstuntgarage5055 nice! Good to know 😁
Dude. Save some shred for the rest of us! Lol. You clearly are comfortable on national. I’ve never ridden the upper part, just lots of rides on the lower section. Up Mormon from the ramadas and turn left at the Mormon National junction. I’ve gotten a lot better at it, still a few features I can’t clear. Especially the punchy climb you said “is one of the hardest” and the spot right around that where you went left and said alt line on the right. I only sometimes clear that spot. Can never keep enough momentum. Anyways. Solid ride my dude
I got one with the mechanical GS shifting. The only issue I'm having is when I am in the lowest gear if I back pedal the chain falls up a couple gears. I only have that issue when I'm stopped and I back pedal to reset my position. Pretty extreme chain line in first gear. I guess because of the short chain stays and boost cranks? Do you have that problem with the AXS Transmission group set? I might try a 6 mm offset chain ring to move the chain line in a bit...
I haven't had any issues on this bike with that specifically.
3:40 😂
Dude! No gloves!? Are you even wearing shades?
I wear gloves on occasion but prefer without. Different strokes for different folks.
It’s been a while. No more South Mountain vids?
Been wicked busy but I may get back to it. Still riding, just Not filming.
I like this trail.
Awesome viodeo. I just bought it last night. I wanted a blur, and then saw this. How are you liking it now and what did it end up weighting?
Still haven't weighed it, but loving the bike more and more with every ride. 💯🤘
Great review, fun video
Love mine. I bought both travel options. Get the discrete clamp and move that silly shifter out of the way. 5'9.5” on a large.
I considered getting the 100mm travel as a backup as well. 🤘💯
You have a garage full of bikes I have one. Let me use yours to practice 😅😊jk. I need a stunt bike
You just described me. I dont want to beat up my supermoto and want something street legal. Guess it's time to go shopping for a grom
Hiya. I'm in the UK (Manchester) and have been looking at this bike. Guess you like it? Anything you don't like?
No complaints thus far. I've put at least 500 miles on it and have hit PRs on tech, climbing, xc, and downhill segments. 💯🤘
@@jonsstuntgarage5055I got one last week 😀
What is the name for your clip on?
Great recommendation. Bought one a few years back for stunting to supplement my CB650R, but ended up using the Grom as a main bike and sold the 650 since I live in a crowded city. Love riding it everywhere, lane filtering through traffic, fun wheelies here and there, and always get complements, unlike the 650 which even though is such a pretty and fast bike, doesn't catch the eye as much as a cute little Grom :)
Wish I would have seen the 120 GX T-type on sale I would have definitely picked one up. I'm on the fence about grabbing the mechanical GX for 3400 and just upgrading it after the stock parts wear out.
Still a bargain at that price and for the build imo. 🤘💯
I just bought that set up last night from Mikes Bikes online. Going to get a dropper put on it, my shimano brakes cause sram suck (IMO), and putting my Noble wheels on it with Berd spokes and DT Swiss 240s. Going to be a sweet rig. Coming from a 2018 SC Tallboy.
How cool was the weather up there vs Phoenix?
Much cooler. Pretty sure it was in the 60s vs 90s in phx already.
Awesome, another 6000.00 dollar mountain bike, and just when the industry is crashing. Perfect timing.
Yeah, at $6k it wasnt even on my radar. But marked down to $4225 with the sram groupset and all, I'm happy with it so far.
Great honest review! A question regarding sizing, I see you are riding a medium size bike and wondering what's your height/inseam? I'm 5'9 and think a medium might be too small. An advice?
I'm 5'7" with 30" inseam and the medium ZFS-5 fits me well. I might need to stem in by a 10mm, though.
@@TheBaldTruth1 thanks for your response - very helpful
Im 5'8" (on a good day :). Not sure of inseam off the top of my head, but it fits me perfect and I have plenty of play with the seat post and dropper.
Picked one up a few months ago, rad bike!
Great review - thanks!
Rad bike John! 😎
Thanks, brotha! It's been a blast!
Shit i ain't got the heart to drop that bike.
Came across your video and thought I recognized the voice! Some serious power uphill and experience downhill.
Yo! We gotta get out for a ride one of these days.💯🤘

rad ride ..but i think you mean East to west you started at Pima and ended at San Jaun from the video anyway !

Nice. I think I literally just saw you a couple hours ago at the same spot at 0:56 mark. You were flying on the climbs and features.
No way in Heaven could I ride that bicycle! I would not even try!
Were you riding down helipad today around 4 p.m.

@@jonsstuntgarage5055 it was yesterday (2/20). Must of been someone else on a Canyon, coming in hot! You don’t see a lot of canyons, so I assumed that it was you. Edit: I see from Strava that it was you.
@@douglasryle6499 oops, I meant to say 2/20/24. Yeah, definitely me. Lol.
Can’t ride on highway only town and lot riding. That’s a big thing. Go big or go home. Get a real stunt bike. Wheelie a from isn’t the same as a sport bike.
You’re right, it’s way freaking harder on a grom so you actually have to know what you’re doing😂 gEt a rEaL sTuNt bIkE lmao bro quit trying to gatekeep. Doing wheelies on the highway is stupid, dangerous, and frankly, easiest compared to slow speed. Plus you aren’t taking that 636 off-road and exploring random places.
I want to ride with Jon 🔥🔥🔥but damn your hauling uphills 😂🔥🔥
Hit me up on IG @jonsmotogarage if you're local or in town. We'll link up for a ride. 🤘💯
Mas rambling, por favor.
Awesome ride. Narrate. Give us tips, tricks, how you choose your lines and how to accomplish these tech features.
Will do! 🤘💯
Nice ride, I’m just several months into MTB, so I watch POV videos to see how others ride difficult trails like Mormon and National, I would vote for more narrated videos describing how to attack climbing and descending features, I liked how you added the clip showing the lines for the first feature on Mormon!, now I know for next time I climb it. Thanks!
Great to know! Thanks for the feedback! Will work on getting some narrated vids going over line choice, technique, etc.
Looks fun! There is snow on my trails in Colorado so I'm living vicariously through you! What tire pressures are you running? How often do you flat, if ever? Trying to decide if I should take out my cushcore but am worried about pinchflats....
I run about 25 psi front and back (a bit higher than what I've heard others run, but has been the best balance for me). I go through waves with flats. Sometimes I get away with no flats for a month or so, and then I'll have a few in a week, which is my issue at the moment. I would keep the cushcore if it works for you. 🤘💯
What trail is this?
Heli pad trail at south mountain, az. It's near war paint trail head. This is the downhill. There are a few different routes to get there and a few fun ways down.
Excellent! I found it, I actually have climbed it before, just not all the way to the pad. It looks like an amazing downhill ride. I’ll try it this weekend. Keep posting videos 👍🏼
Right on! You can hit me up on strava if you use the app. I'm "JMG O" . Have fun out there!
Nice work! Havent been up the trail forever.
Thanks, man! Always a good challenge tackling this segment.
Beast mode ...!
nice vid, much respects to mtbers who can actually do some climbs
I used to climb out of necessity to hit the downhill, but I've learned to embrace the challenge and have put a lot of work I to becoming a stronger climber. Thanks for rollin through! 💯🤘
Awesome climbing! Reminds me of riding in the Phoenix area over 15 years ago. I tried starting to ride at 5am to avoid the summer heat but 100 degF was the LOW that day and even without sun it was crazy hot.
As I prep my MTB.✌️
Nice video!
Dang! Hammering!
Glad to see your consistent and polite notifications to other trail users....but hard to break a PR with other users around ;)
Haha! Yeah, this isn't the time of year for PRs unless you happen to get lucky with a clear trail. 💯🤙
Awesome to see you on this side of two wheels. I’ve always liked your content with the wheelies and such. Bicycles are so fun for sure, good to see you doing this.
Thanks for the support, man! I appreciate it! 🙏💯 Cycling has become an awesome outlet and great way to stay fit as I get older.
Do you have road tires on your gravel bike? Curious how tire setup would affect cornering ability, straight line rolling resistance, etc?
Running gravel tires. Not sure on the specs off top of my head, but definitely losing a bit of speed compared to road tires. Not sure how much tho. Good point!
Thanks for the summary of your channel. I look forward to seeing more content
Thanks for the support! 💯🤙
