Yeah, but why "Quiet RC"?
I'm just trying to keep this under control... but if it gets out of control, I don't need everyone to know about it.

that thing don't look proportional. is it really 1/10 "scale" ? what is the wheelbase? and diameter of the tires?
Some track notes from yesterday's run. My drive shafts kept popping. It was suggested to me to adjust droop by adding more spacers inside the shocks. I opened the front shocks (at the track...) and added two more o-rings inside, so my front shocks now have 4 o-rings inside, and much less travel. That fixed the front for the rest of the day. At the rear I moved the shocks to the most inward position at the towers, and adjusted a shorter (-4 deg, it was) camber to keep the cups in. The back held fine after that and there was no need to mess with the shocks further. Until I broke off the camber link mount in the last round of finals... That's fine, the CF replacement will be here this week. I found out about and ordered "TXV2-021SP", 39mm drive shafts from YR, intended for the rear. Have already ordered double cardans for the front, but they're coming from HK so will take a bit of time to arrive.
I got the XV02 during a sale for 250€, I should have gotten myself a XV01, the build overcomplicated for me. I'm not a "RTR" guy but honestly this XV02 feel so frustrating.
Hi Rob. For panel lines, have you ever tried painting them on inside (masking them in), instead of taping on outside? If so, what was your experience with trying that?
That would be far too tedious for me. They would also end up *behind* the decals which, in my opinion, would negate the effect of the panel line I'd be going for.
@@quietrc Yes, I recall you mentioning the behind aspect in a video, and that is a great point. I was thinking about it for a touring car with no livery decals. I could see myself spending hours trying to get the masking correct, and probably fail when done. Still searching for a tape smaller than .7mm to apply on exterior.
Great video... Thanks for adding this to my comment on FB.. 👌👌💪🪛🪛
Hopefully it helped!
@quietrc I emailed it to myself for future reference 👌👌 thanks

Many websites. I've linked the set I've used in a few videos
Wow, that Porsche 959 looks amazing, you've done a fantastic job!!
Thank you!
I put the 'MT' front bumper on my truggy. You can do the rear MT bumper with a little modification, it's usually either wing OR bumper.
I actually threw on a B6 wing. You can see it in the build/review of the 14b I did. I think it seems to work better.
A beautiful white Land Rover Discovery? I didn't know the US got them.
Yup, we've had all the Discoveries as far as I know (except diesels, I believe). Sadly this one has been sold off as it was beyond repair. I miss it very much.
❤
I’ve built a Kyosho Turbo Scorpion and a bunch of other RC kits before but never a Tamiya. I have an M07 chassis with a CR-X body waiting to be built, the kit box is still sealed. I’m very much looking forward to the experience now since I never really noticed if the manuals were difficult to follow. Will it feel so much easier or is the kit going to go together like any other? Time will tell. It’s interesting to hear other takes on the same manuals we use since it highlights how differently we perceive things.
I really do think Tamiya’s are the best, consistently, manuals out there.
I liked at the Frasier reference intro already!
One of my favorite shows!
That’s a beautiful car and I don’t find it an overstatement to say it’s good art. The possibilities of making 1/12 rally cars with the M-chassis are overlooked in my opinion. It doesn’t have to be all Minis and Civics in 1/10. Someone said the Fiat 131 is actually not a small car so it would look right next to this Porsche. I’m not sure if I missed it, but what are your thoughts on the lack of droop at the right rear? I’ve suggested people to try offset ball cups on the camber link to fix the issue because it would not affect the geometry. It’s a non-issue on the shelf so I understand why you wouldn’t do it, but then again you put oil in the shocks so I can imagine the modification seem tempting to you.
I've actually done a build and review on the XM-01 and I used the Fiat body for it: th-cam.com/video/9zB7YHhhrvM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=W8B7Agr7vPGTMY4e The MF01X chassis is really the entry level mini rally car. So the lack of tuning, i.e. droop, doesn't really bother me. Even for the ones I run. The XM-01 is where you're going to find those adjustments... and you'll pay for it!
😂😂😂..You cant even say Porsche correctly
You simply MUST enlighten us all on the “proper” way to pronounce it! Don’t be shy, people who correct others on the proper way to pronounce a marquee are the most cherished within enthusiasts communities and are almost NEVER wrong!
The clarity of the clear areas in the windows looks very poor?
What do you mean?
I have kit #48 and just waiting on a rainy day to start assembly of mine! I wish I has the patients to paint on the stripes!! I love the metallic paints......
The decals are really good! So I wouldn’t even worry about painting them!
So cool! I just got hold of the YZ-10 Super Dog Fighter from 1994 in really good condition 🙂
Very cool!
Great video, i really wanted one of these, but at the time the funds just couldnt be found. So its great to see a detailed video showcasing it 👌
Glad I was able to share it with you!
Rob buddy you did an amazing job on the 959. Beautiful car and well designed and definitely a work of art. Godbless Mitchell he is a genius. Enjoy your art piece. I was a tad too late for one of these unfortunately. Thank you for sharing this process with us. 😊
It was really my pleasure to share it!
Rob,, you're put so much passion into building that. It's amazing to see and I love the personal touches. I'm so pleased to see how much you like it. Thank you for the support. The other Rob.
Its a great kit!
Quickly becoming one of my favorite rc channels
Thank you!
great car , great video
Thanks! 👍
Your workshop/hobby space looks amazing. I used to have a space that encompassed my office, hobby space, and shelves for display, but we moved from that house and lost my space 😢
It is a great space to have. I'm sure you'll carve out some spot for the hobby... As Jeff Goldblum said: "Life, uh, finds a way."
awesome work, it turned out gorgeous :)
Thank you! 😊
Great video! Great kit! Great build! Rob did a superb job putting this kit together. I am kicking myself for not grabbing one. I have an original kit that I will build someday so I wasn’t really considering this one for the work of art it really is.
That original one will be awesome to see. Thanks for checking out the video!
Nice video, nice build-will be starting to build Project 959 after Christmas-great idea to use the hex versus the screws on this one
Yes... hex is the way to go. Pretty convenient that its almost all just the 10mm ones.
Another great video I'm wondering how many days it took you to edit this You must really enjoy putting this RC together because it's too tedious for me do you like putting Lego together lol I know it's not one you're going to drive a lot but are you going to at least do one video of how it drives
It took a loooong time to edit. I can't remember who said it, but they estimated that for every minute of a video, it is about an hour of editing. I'd say there's about 40 hours of work into this one. Didn't help that my Adobe Premiere kept crashing.
I don't mind the lenght of the video. I love the detailed explanation bcs i can use it to build mine. I'm not gonna build it right away, bcs i want to enjoy the kit like it is. It is as great (maybe even better) then the good old vintage Tamiya kits with their blisterpacks and such.
Yes! It certainly makes up for the lack of blister packs.
Got mine, waiting to build. I want to take my time with this one. Great job on yours. Love it.
Enjoy the build! Leave a comment if you have a question on something I didn't cover well enough to help you.
Can you put a link to the hex screw kit and the grabber tool? Loved the video but was sad that the shelf art kit was already sold out. Oh well, there are more kits available than I have room for. 1st world problems 🤪

Hi Rob. New to the hobby, loving your videos, and have a question for you. I'm getting ready to build the Porsche 911 Gt3 (992) Tamiya #58712. It will be my 5th Tamiya build, and will be my first kit where I am substituting something from what comes in the kit - that being the wheels. I bought some 3D printed wheels from RC Racing Legends on Etsy that are much closer to what I think should be on the car. My question is: what color would you recommend painting them, to achieve a polished aluminum look (and I am thinking it is polished aluminum...could be wrong). My current plan is to start with a Tamiya White Surface primer (#87044), but after that I am not sure. Maybe a TS-17 Gloss Aluminum? I don't have an airbrush, so need to use rattle cans. I have not branched out to other brands of paint - only using Tamiya so far. But, I really want these wheels to look great. Suggestions?
I actually have a new video releasing tomorrow that includes some painting of 3D parts. To answer your question, though: 3D printed parts can sometimes be rough due to the printing process. You might want to looking into using Tamiya putty. This will allow you to smooth it all out… but it is WORK! Yes, use the Tamiya primer. White is best for predictable outcomes. As for silver color, I don’t think I’ll be a ton of help there, but I think you’re on the right track with the aluminums. You can also use PS colors on non-polycarbonate surfaces (I think there’s a PS aluminum) like wheels. It will just come out flat. You can then go over that with some sort of clear (matte, semi-gloss, gloss). This gives you more options on final finish, though. Lastly, not sure what your plans are with the 3D printed wheels, but they are usually too fragile to be used for actual driving. Great for a shelf-queen, though.
@@quietrc Thanks so much for the reply! Putty might be a bit too much for me at this time, but maybe down the road. I will look into PS color options plus a clear. I will have the 4 kit wheels to do some experimenting with regarding final look. I had not thought about durability, but the car will be a shelf-queen (if it turns out like I hope!) Really enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing so much great info, and in such an enjoyable way.
So why aren't they precut? In this day in age with all the glow cutters out there, I don't see the reason why you should have to cut.
That is a little bit of a topic that is debated: pre-cut vs. not. To anser your question, there are kits that come with pre-cut decals. However, the cuts tend to not be extremely precise, so there is a larger amount of clear decal sheet surrounding each graphic (if that makes sense). Some people, myself included, don't like that. We like the ability to cut as closely as possible to make the decal as clean as possible. However, if a kit comes with pre-cut decals, I'm not yet crazy enough to go a re-cut them. Appreciate you dropping a comment!
@quietrc that's for the reply. I appreciate the insight
Nice video👍 i sometimes use the injora injs014. Roadside rc had a review of it not so long ago. Its cheap, and ok fast, maybe not as precise though. I'd like to see another review sometime🤔.. Hint hint😉
I'm working on more reviews now, I promise!
Good video with a bunch of good tips. I'm getting ready to do my 1st 1/8 scale buggy body and I think I'll follow your steps
Let me know how it turns out! Take your time, and good luck!
@quietrc i started out with liquid mask and was having trouble. I switched to Tamiya tape and now have it about 90% complete except for white backing. Overall pretty good 1st time but my OCD has me noticing things here & there
This is a great vid. Thank you . The door/ shut edge tape is a great touch
I think it really ads to the detail.
Im new to Rc building... I have a Tamiya tt-02d kit ( honda civic SiR body) ... I don't have any of the electronics besides the battery... In the instructions manual, the step im on (29) now says to check the Electonics , the steering with controller etc... (yours says step 26 which is my 29).. anyways ...my question is, can i skip that part, and start finishing the rest of it up and once i get the electronics just install them? any feedback is helpful thank you.
You can absolutely skip this step. Sometimes ts just a little more difficult to fit that servo in there later, but still totally doable. People switch out servos all the time on completed chassis.
@@quietrc thank you, i figured that would be the case, any reccomendations on on electronics for it? i havnt looked into any yet,
I'm working on a Losi Nascar body and I designed my own decal sheet with cut contour lines - The body I am painting is black so I made the whole backing of the sticker sheet black because clear spots on black bodies really don't end up looking clear- I'm waiting for the decals to be shipped to me, it will be interesting to see how it turns out- This is the first time I'm doing a body since the 90's when I was really into the hobby. This video will surely help me- thank you
Let me know how it turns out! As a precaution, your vinyl decals may be a bit thicker. So take your time and maybe use the hairdryer a little more.
It’s a shame because the B7 is great. I’d happily pay more to get a better kit. I love my LC cars though. Tip on the mesh, don’t install that stupid spur cover. It’s unnecessary.
I think their legit pro- or race-chassis are excellent. This is just not one of them.
Also, flip the steering rack over, and increase the akerman, that should help with the traction roll.
I totally agree, the instructions were very confusing. I put in the wrong screws in so many places just to correct it later in the build. I had the advantage of stopping in Hobbytown Cincinnati to buy my kit while passing through. They tell you ahead of time all the tips and tricks to make it a great 1/18 wheeler. They specifically told me “debur” all the diff parts and drill out the pistons in the shocks. Clear out the motor mounts to get to a larger 2.3 motor shaft size and 2440 motor with more torque and a hobby wing esc. Go with the yokamo tires, upgrade to the hack fab shock towers. If you treat the kit like a race buggy and not an RTR it is fantastic!
I think it has plenty of protentional, but they slapped some Factory Team blue on it and tried to pass it off as something else. I think you have to do a lot with it to get it to where the LC is starting off.
How did the build go? I stripped out the steering twice, other than that it's a nice kit
It is still in the box and waiting to be built. I'm wrapping up two other builds and am not sure what is going to be next for me!
Beauty job dude.
Thank you!
Great work on those bodies 👍🤝
Thanks!
As always great video
Thanks!
Lacquer is a great product for most applications where a film finish is required. I’ve been a professional woodworker/luthier most of my adult life, and the one thing I really like about lacquer is how forgiving it is to use. Between coats, all you ever really need to do is sand it really lightly to get rid of the little “tits” that get stuck in the finish. Lacquer will melt the previous coat and make a really strong bond, so if you remove the little specks of dust, it lays down incredibly smooth. It rarely requires anything heavier than 600 grit between coats. Even that is pretty heavy. The longer you let it sit, the harder it gets. If you ever want a super shine, let it sit for a month after many coats, and then cut and buff just like you would a 1:1 car. As long as the clear is thick enough you can buff it to glass without burning through to the color beneath. Also, fun fact, I have the exact same wall desk as you do in your office. Great minds…
Great knowledge on using lacquer. I just used some for another project and it really does return a great finish when you're able to build up those layers.
Great advice. I'm getting the Porsche for sure!
Its really a great kit. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Awesome 😊
Thank you!
amazing job man and great instructions! thanks a bunch!
I hope it helped!
