Every Nintendo 64 Racing Game
I've officially gone off the deep end.
The Nintendo 64 had (and still has) an amazing library of games, and that includes the racing genre. But did the 3D hardware of N64 work for racing games, or did these games age like gray fog?
Played on a mix of real hardware, Project 64, and ARES.
This video was originally twice as long, but who watches 2-hour long videos anyway?

Fictional Tracks, Real Places | Racing game tracks rooted in reality
มุมมอง 6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
If you've played racing games, you're probably familiar with real-world courses like Laguna Seca or Daytona. But sometimes, developers will choose to create tracks that have no right to exist in our world. However, "fictional" tracks can sometimes be more real than you think... Like what you're seeing? Gran Turismo 2 A-Spec Mod Review | Retro-mod
มุมมอง 3.8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
I’ve been playing Gran Turismo 2 for a while and am ready to move on before I burn myself out. But I’ve been getting requests to check out this mod called “Project A-Spec”. Do the new cars and changes to the main campaign keep the experience fresh? And is it worth trying? Notes: The calculations I made for the number of races without power limits covered GT League and Special Events only. Facto...
Beating Gran Turismo 2 With Yellow Cars: The Supercut
มุมมอง 1.3K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
After beating Gran Turismo 2 twice already, I take a joke too seriously and challenge myself to beat it again with only yellow cars. Is third time really the charm? This is all 3 parts of the challenge videos combined into one long video. The thumbnail was created by me using a GT2 car viewer, Blender, and Paint-dot-NET. Music and footage credits are at the end of the video. TeaKanji GT2 tuning...
Unicorns of Gran Turismo: "Standard Car" Edition

In the continuing saga of Gran Turismo, we examine another set of "unicorns". But this time, we realize that most of the cars featured in this video were also in the PS3 GT games. As such, this is the "Standard Car" edition of "Unicorns of Gran Turismo". Notes: I haven't been able to record my own footage of GT5 or GT6 since RPCS3 is a resource hog. I'm sure one of these days we'll finish thing...

Unicorns of Gran Turismo: PS1 Edition
มุมมอง 13K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Thousands of cars have been seen in the Gran Turismo series, but even then only a handful survived the transition to PS2 and onward. I want to take a look at some more of the cars that were odd, obscure, or rare in reality. But this time, we’ll highlight cars that remained on the original PlayStation. Here are more unicorns of Gran Turismo, covering the first two games in the series. Notes and ...
Can You Beat Gran Turismo 2 Without Japanese Cars?
มุมมอง 13K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Still on a Gran Turismo buzz and finishing GT2, I wanted to challenge myself to see if it was possible to beat the game without using Japanese cars. There are many cars from around the world in GT2 and it’d be a crime to ignore them (despite the heavy bias towards Japanese cars). But I had a good excuse to do it: I got sick with “it” and had nothing better to do. Could I overcome being sick and...
Unicorns of Gran Turismo

There have been thousands of cars throughout the history of the Gran Turismo series. But only a few were as unique, outlandish, or crazy as these. These are the Unicorns of Gran Turismo. Notes: Chip Foose is actually credited with the design of the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler. Tom Gale oversaw designs at Chrysler at the time. I was also on the fence about including the Speed 12 since it technical...

From Duke to King - Xbox Controller Evolution (2001-2023)

I may not be the biggest fan of Xbox, but I'll be darned if they don't make good controllers. But it didn't get that way overnight. Today, we're looking at the evolution of the Xbox controller, going from its polarizing debut to where it became one of the best controllers ever made (and everything in between). We'll also look at a more modern take on one controller as well as a bunch of differe...
Need for Speed: ProStreet (PS2) - When Pro Met Street
มุมมอง 1.4K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
I kept to my word, dagnabbit! We’re looking at Need for Speed: ProStreet on PS2 via PCSX2. Not the optimal way to play this game, but I don’t have a way to play it as it was intended. ProStreet isn’t bad, it’s just not very good or exciting. Maybe that’s because of the downgrades to get the game onto the PS2, so maybe I’ll come back to this game later running the HD version. By the way, we're c...

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate that you include the music you used in the description and at the end of the video. Wish everyone did that on TH-cam.
Yellow is my favourite colour
the last 5 or so playthroughs ive done is fully avoiding using the generic japanese cars, and other limitations. it makes the game much more interesting. not just buying a skyline and winning every race.
I would argue that the Nismo GTR LM Race Car from Gran Turismo 1 should have been on this list. While it did technically return in GT2, it was a Racing Modification for the Nismo GTR LM Road Car and not its own seperate car model. Unfortuantely it didn't appear in the PS2 era games as a "Standard Car" unlike with its Road Car counterpart
why i love this GT2 so much than other racing games? coz there are many cars to be driven when you get rich😅
Esa cámara trasera estática es lo peor que pudieron inventar en gt, lamentablemente desde el gt4 quedo así, una mierda
Sell-eh-kuh.
World Driver Championship is the best N64 racing game!
Worst review ever. You didn't do justice to the best racers the N64 has to offer.
Did you even play F-Zero X?
@@squiddythekid3976 I did. It's a very good game with insane speed and excellent soundtrack but it could not be compared on a technical level to the likes of Ridge Racer 64, F1 World Grand Prix and World Driver Championship !
The N64 had the best racing games because I could just pick a car and run, I tried later racing games in other consoles and it never felt as good as the N64. I had fun with so many, Beetle Adventure Racing, Mario Kart, Diddy Kong, the F1 from Codemasters (that I tried to run as realistic as possible), even Destruction Derby and Monster Truck Madness
in 2024 i can say that this game eat some recent forza easy
No 1080 Snowboarding?
snowboarding games are kinda their own thing
I had no idea the N64 had this many racing games. I remember playing Cruisin' USA when I was like 4 years old and thinking it was so good. Rose tinted glasses in full effect.
As a longtime, passionate fan of the fastest, most punishing racing series in the history of Nintendo, it always does my heart justice seeing F-Zero X take the pole position where it rightfully belongs. It was that game that fueled and influenced my love, and dedicated to not only the franchise, but also real motorsports in general like NASCAR, IndyCar and Formula One.
54:25 in top gear he talks about getting the hang of the steering. as a kid I accidentally found riding the outside of the corner actually faster, what was so satisfying was there is a section of the mountain course that is a high speed section for some reason the AI drives super slow through there. also RUSH 2 OMG the only way to play that game is the DEATH CIRCUIT and you and your friend try to wreck the competition driving high durability cars. which must have inspired BURNOUT takedown lol.
wallriding. wallriding never changes
I have the game since i got the N64 back in 98 Grew up playing it and enjoying the handling I even bought the japanese version for the save in the cart feature and the new paintings on the cars (they fixed that replay glitch from the original american version) Lovely game !
I got Roadsters for PS1 as a present when it was new (I was just a kid at the time). My neighbors across the street gave it to me thinking they did something nice...turns out the game was complete dog water. I imagine the N64 version is just as bad, if not worse.
it didn't leave the best impression on me
The vector w8 was much more driveable than the speed12, at least i could beat the world championship with it. It woud be nice to use a real touring car at touring car races, there are a lot of european cars with cool and racing mods based mostly on real BTCC cars
Nailed it with the #1 racing game. It's definitely F-Zero X. And it's not especially close.
Best N64 racer ever and I will always stand by that opinion.
As a huge F-Zero fan, this list was very satisfying.
As another dedicated fan of the fastest, most punishing racing series in the history of Nintendo, I absolutely agree.
Hot Wheels Turbo Racing is a bit of an enigma to me - while I mainly play the PSX version due to PSX2PSP eBoots on my Vita, I actually kinda prefer the N64 version. While the sound fidelity and content are greater on PlayStation, I much rather prefer the main menu UI and graphics on the N64 version. If you were stuck with either version, you still wouldn't go wrong or feel cheapened out because regardless of version, HWTR is a fantastic game.
I love Hot Wheels Turbo Racing is the first game i ever played on my PS1
I remember playing California Speed on arcade at a local pizza hut.
Petition to revise gamecube racing games
uh what
The San Francisco Rush series and MRC hold a special place in my heart! I played em nonstop after I couldn't stomach more Mario Kart 64. MRC is how my dad and I bonded tuning the cars and figuring out which one was the best to finish the game and beat the two bosses (it was Kingroader, it was always the Kingroader). Great vid Squid!
holy shit new peak dropped
The every track in Enthusia except Tsukuba and Nurburgring are fictional with real life explanations and inspirations: here's a few Dragon Range-A parody of Mt Haruna and various Japanese Touges. Its set in Germany with the background made to look like you're climbing up to a fortress. Its OST is a Eurobeat parody! Cosmic Eggway- They literally made an egg shape oval/roval combo racetrack and *set it inside Kennedy Space Center* Rev City is a Tokyo highway route that leads to rainbow bridge. Its architecture is like a deja vu of Ridge Racer's iconic track Seaside 765! Marco Strada-A somehow drivable race track set inside venice Mirage crossing-The most unique track to be found in a GT parody: A point-to-point rally raid stage in vein of Dakar rally. Its an open dirt track with flag markers guiding your path across dunes to the finish in an oasis. This track reinforced with Enthusia had Dakar trucks!
I love the Hong Kong track from GT4, its really fun
I hope the mod fixes one of the biggest nitpicks I have with the original Gran Turismo 2: Over 600 awesome cars, _only _*_100_*_ stupid garage slots!_
Might be a hard-coded limit; you'd have to ask Komputer
@@squiddythekid3976 I see. Still, that’s one of the things I love about Gran Turismo 3 & 4. You can have _every single car in the game in your garage._
Try to beat GT2 with only station wagons
Challenge : Win every race at Apricot Hill ❤️ Keep up the good content, haven’t seen something original like this in a while
Gran turismo Tokyo R 246 from GT3-6
Tokyo R246 is literally one to one accurate both in-game and irl. It's one my top favorite street tracks because of how accurate the track is.
Madrid and London from Gran Turismo 5 should've been included imo
ACURA IS JAPANESE CAR !!!
I know song list is at the end but what song plays at 11:59 ? sounds so good
"Conditioned Reflex" from Sega Rally
@@squiddythekid3976 Thank you so much!!!
Hong Kong from Grid 2 was honestly one of my favorite fictional tracks. The narrow roads really make for a good touge track
I don't know if it qualifies but the maps in the Midnight Club series would be streets based on real life cities with its landmarks and what not. Especially the last one, LA, borrows a ton from real life
They're like compact versions of real cities and probably deserve their own video
Put Fujimi back into Forza FFS
unbound is a multiplayer game the campaign is ass unmodded
That hill you were driving up in the jeep is real. It's called roseberry topping in the north east of England near great ayton
That doesn't count, that was Forza Horizon 4 stock footage I had lying around 😆
@squiddythekid3976 funny thing is it's around a 30 minute drive from where I live. Would love for seattle to reappear in gt7 as it would make for some exciting online duels.
Thinking about the Yokohama GP track in Racing Lagoon and the two Paris tracks from the PSX version of Sports Car GT...
This is why i love the gran turismo fictional circuit fake but real 🤣🤣
Newcastle/Gateshead from the Test Drive series. Mostly a fantasy layout outside of the relatively accurate Monument Metro/Pilgrim Street section. Diving down to the Quayside looks mad fun, though.
Funnily enough, I had similar feelings about GT4. Absolutely loved the cars, tracks, graphics, menu music, etc. But the car handling... yikes That's why I began working on my own mod which changes several gameplay aspects, like grip, rally penalty (or lack thereof), steering and weight balance, money balance, and more I'd love to share it once it's done if you're interested
