Great video for me as a beginner to Darktable, thank you.

Lightroom has more natural transition from dark to light areas. That said, I also feel you went with more aggressive editing in Darktable than you did in Lightroom. From the brief testing U did with Darktable, I feel it's very easy to overdo everything in Darktable. So sensitive sliders. On the flip side, in Lightroom sliders often stop before I want; can't push to 11. And that is possible in Darktable

I am trying to set a short cut in crop to swap portrait to landscape, you can do it manually by clicking the circle next to the text Original image (or what ever name show up right to aspect.) But I can't find it into the short cut section. Can you help? WOw thanks for all those shortcut, it save me frustrations. Newer version are different to change shortcuts.

On my trackpad that doesn`t work, sometimes I also can not close the menu windows for some reason. Do you know a Solution for that? and is there a shortcut for the Snapshot feature, to see the image changes before/after like in Lightroom?

Darktable no longer seems to have the 'image' and 'folder' import options. I'm on v4 and have 'add to library' and 'copy and import'.

A very well made video. I run Linux on my computers and file handling is much easer than Windows file explorer but you explained it very well. On Linux systems, dt will find card readers, cameras etc that have been mounted in the file system (i.e. when you plug in the card reader and the system can 'see' it in the Files utility), so then dt will also be able to 'see' it when importing. Thank you, I will recommend your TH-cam channel for dt beginners.

Thank you for posting this how to video. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get too far. When I click on import I get the options Add to Library or Copy & Import instead of Image or Folder options. It looked like I had an older version of Darktable so I deleted it & thought I imported the latest version. However, while it now says I have version 3.8.0 the interface looks exactly the same & it even kept the few images I somehow stumbled upon importing. I've managed to import a photo that I selected from my iPhoto library but I can't proceed with selecting more. When I go to the folder I selected in iPhoto I only see a few images but not the rest. I tried creating a folder on my desktop but when I selected it I wasn't able to import the folder itself or any images ie nothing happened when I clicked add to library. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong. Thank you!

Hey Amber, great video! When I try to export, it doesn't apply any of the edits that I made. It just exports the original photo. That's wierd. The only option I see is to use a style. Which means every photo I edit, I have to create a style? Are you able to export photos with edits and without using any style?

I have always hated that LR makes adjustment on photo import, I prefer to control everything by myself. It's like when shooting video in s-log v-log or any other flat profile, the idea is to control coloring in post. Whenever I import photos into LR I flatten the look so I can process the images to my taste. I really don't think that this "feature" in LR (preprocess photos) is an advantage.

Great video! Would you know why whenever I export my photos they look nothing like what they do in darktable? In edit they will look great but after exporting the colors and exposure will be blown out.

Thanks for this great video! As for the export folder- I just chose the same folder I imported from from the export menu and there was no problem exporting them in the same one back- even with the xmp files. They automatically get a "_01" attachment to their original file name. But maybe it works differently on Mac and Windows?

Is this a paid version of DT? I don’t have the preset tab and I cannot export my photo.
