Great video! I am also an avid gear destroyer, always modifying or creating my own kit. My last project was my own scratch built split rig based on the SADF webbing. I am not quite as concerned with weight as you are, my ADHD is more obsessed with how well built the gear is, which parts will fail first etc. Imagine part of your gear failing (breaking) after the apocalypse! My pet hates are coil zippers and plastic fastex buckles. Anyone who goes through the bargain buckets at your local surplus long enough will start to notice which parts of the webbing always breaks first. It's plastic buckles and coil zips mostly. I like metal clips or 3DSR if I want to go plastic. I like metal toothed zippers, like on old school action man uniforms. I have taken on board your tip about minimising loops on gear. For unstitching components I just use a sharp knife very carefully, it's much quicker than seam ripper and relatively risk free. I used to use razor blades for seams, but found them too sharp. Lots of slips and mishaps.

Happy New Year friend! Thanks for all this wonderful content last year and look forward to what your channel holds in 2025. By the way, have you discovered the Bull Brand LED lighters? They’re an absolute game-changer. A torch and fire starter in one 🤯 You should be able to get three packs off EBay for like $5. At least I can in the UK. I havent EDC’d a lighter in my pocket since I smoked 8 years ago (though I generally have them in a bag) but now I’m back to carrying one daily for the purpose that I have a mini glowing lantern and fire-source in my pocket. A great backup to my main flashlight. I’ve even started leaving one by my bedside for going to the toilet in the night. They’re so cheap and handy!

I’ve used the intermediate bag down to -6F on its own. You definitely need a well insulated mat under you. But it handles the cold very well for a $99 sleeping bag.

Been a while since I've carried that much, but 2weeks of food, bivy bag, compact tent, survival gear, etc very quickly adds up! The one thing I learned FAST!!! get realistic about how far you travel in a day! Yes a 20kg you probably can do 25-30km a day, but the moment you hit that 50-55kg you have to realize it takes 4 times as much energy to move 2 times the weight! Look traveling 8-10km a day for 4hrs, instead of 25-30km for 8 hrs, trust me your body will thank you, and when you, in my case, get to where I was hunting, have more energy for setting base camp etc. As a side note, I use to get a giggle watching my mates try to carry my pack, I'm only 5'7

the alice packs are great. I just have a tendency to want to carry too much stuff when I use them. but they are truly bombproof and if I could "only have one back pack", it would be the alice, med or mtn, doesnt matter.

brother I have done the same thing with old scout packs. I need to post my new and improved two pocket cotton canvas arvn pack mods I have done. They are expensive to find on ebay if serviceable. I have been buying damaged ones, cutting them apart, repairing, lining with new canvas, its turning out great. So far the grand boys are totin them well! love em because they are light and practical. (surfin for pocket mods still, lol)
