Girder & Panel Castle ... What I want now!!!
Girder and Panel is a construction toy from the 1960's to the 1980's. You could make some impressive buildings with it. If they could create a castle version, we could make customizable Castles and tower for our games.

    The rolling for getting a spell list for a caster was only with the early version of RM. IIRC, from RMC and beyond, as you spend dev pts in a spell list, and each purchase of the spell list skill made it so you can cast spells up to that level (instead of a 'chance' to cast that list). > I agree with the being able to cast spells that you know & suffer the (neg 10)/lvl of the spell above your character level. I use the same in my games too. I taught myself RM way back in '86 by using the blue Character Law & created a character following the book. The rules follow the same concepts over and over, so once you get a grip on that, the games becomes easy. There are a of options available and makes it look intimidating by the sheer volume of charts, books, etc. There aren't that many rules themselves > You have to create your character based on 10 stats & you use development points (DP's) to buy skills > The class you choose will make some skills easier to develop and others harder. Ex: a Fighter develops weapon skills for low DP cost, and could choose to develop Open spells at a high DP cost. A Magician, conversely, can develop spells for low DP cost, and skills like weapons, body development (ie. hitpoints) for a high DP cost. The class makes it easier/harder to develop certain skills. To try to do 'something' in the game, you have a d100 roll + your skill bonuses (which includes your stat bonuses) + bonuses/penalties for circumstances = success or failure. > For combat --> you have d100 roll + offensive/defensive bonuses + bonuses/penalties for circumstances = Look on the chart for your weapon vs armor to find the damage you do Once you have this part down, the game is very scalable as the characters level up. You dont have the same power jump issues that D&D has at higher levels. I do acknowledge/reiterate that there are a of options so that is why it seems complicated. You can choose to use those options or not. I grew up starting with the blue book D&D. RM is still my favorite game system out there (RMSS specifically), and I have every version & most of the individual books for all the versions of RM. I am currently learning the nuances of RMU now since it came out recently. I came across your video today SageMaster. Thank you for posting it. 🙂 BGH

    Haha, that is 26 years ago! What a thing to complain about. RMSS/FRP was a huge step up in many ways and problematic in others like every new edition is. The company is now a hobby project by like 5 people, to be so sour is just laughable. Pete Fenlon and Coleman Charlton tried everything to save in the late 90‘s. Splitting Spell Law was great for players at the table (OSE does the same btw). ICE went down because they lost the ME license. Dumbest most childish take imaginable.😂😂👍

They should bring them back and offer more sets for more projects, with the ability to integrate with model trains and Motorific cars. Don't kids still want to build skyscrapers, bridges, and futuristic cities?

    it has been so long, I forgot the name of that set. My grandparents had a set of them things, eons ago, such fun times. 3D printed textured panels would be a major change from the original clear plastic sheets with print/paint on them, would be interesting to see someone do that. the overlapping on the verticals may need some work, can't over lap 3D printed stuff as easily as the printed/painted cellophane sheets on them pegs that hold the panels. P.S. not the food packing cellophane sheets, go to an office supply outlet, go to the 3-ring binder section, and look at the clear plastic binder things you put papers into, that cellophane (it's got some rigidity to it).

    • @SageMasterRPG
      @SageMasterRPG 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My thought on that was a small notch in the texture panels. So that the left side always fit over the right side of the panel to the right. Then because the over lapping texture fit into a groove, it would be stronger.

    Hello, I'm coming back here to let you know that the link given by the esteemed owner of the channel does not seem to be working. The site seems to have gone down, currently you can only access the site through another link... I tried to copy and paste that link in this comment but apparently TH-cam automatically deletes my comment if it contains a link. With that new link you can only see the images that contain several tokens together but only in low resolution... when you try to click on that image to obtain a high resolution/larger size the link simply seems to be broken.

But I have already tried with a PC with Windows 10 and using the link that you gave I still get the same problem: error message about the site cannot be found. And searching on Google I see that I am not the only one who has had this happen, in a forum I found the alternative of using something called waybackmachine: an extension to the link that is placed in front of your link starting with "web archive" (I can't put the link because TH-cam automatically deletes my comment) and with that I can access to the website but it happens to me that I can only see the images in their small version since when I click on them it gives me the error message again. So I can only save those previews of the images.

    A few days ago I was remembering you, because of what you were saying about the advantages of paper miniatures, because I found the supplement book "Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Fold-Up Figures" (from 1984 if I'm not mistaken). Even better than what is usually found because they are not just to have the flat token/template but each character comes with 3 poses (back, sideways and front) to form like a prism with a triangular base. I hadn't seen that kind of paper miniature before. Thank you for sharing this material, the benefits of 3 decades of the internet I suppose ;D

    Pretty much all of the D&D rules makes no sense. The arbitrary rules they put in place have no logical reasons to be there... it's like they told themselves, we need to put restrictions on everything, regarless if it makes sense or not. And most of their restrictions make no sense. Gods are a good example, they should not even have stats IMO... god's magic should be pretty much wish level abilities. The idea a human can go to a god and fight him makes no senses at all. They should be on a completelly different scale where only other gods and maybe very powerful celestials and demons should have any change of doing anything against a god. In my homebrew world, I have not yet created stat blocks for gods, but when I decide to do it, they will be like level 1000. Gods should be able to destroy a city with one spell IMO. Hence the term, The wrath of god.

    For the herbs they probably used stock art. After losing the Tolkien approval because the Jackson movies were to be produced, they must have lost a huge part of their revenue. I've looked at other 3rd party monster manuals and often I don't like the monsters they present because they are too unusual or weird. Even some monsters in the AD&D Fiend Folio and Monster Manual 2 are probably rarely used for the same reason. Those books used suggestions from Dragon and White Dwarf magazines, plus monsters introduced in TSR modules to make them "official" by putting them in the hardcover manuals.

    Hi, I really enjoy your videos. I've been a fan of Rolemaster since the 80s. It's definitely my choice for high fantasy campaigns...I've gone through all the editions but I still stick with Rolemaster 2e. I just wanted to ask you how you manage the percentages of actions that players must spend per round? Have you tried the technique of aligning the percentages continuously? Example: In the first round my character decides to charge his longbow 80%. He has 20% left and must wait for the GM to come back to him for his remaining 20%... given to him with 20% he decides to shoot (50%) but does not have enough percentage so it is postponed until 2nd round where he fires and he has 70% left in the second round considering the 20% remaining from the first... When the GM comes to him , he has 70% left. He decides to recharge his longbow 80%. Which pushes him back to the 3rd round and he remains 90% action in the 3rd round given the 10% difference. He decides in the 3rd round to draw his charged longbow but at -10. Etc Etc... With this system a player can only say one action at a time... Hope i am clear

    Seriously, I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but I can hardly believe we watched the same video. It doesn't feel like you engaged with a single thing Pointy Hat was talking about, or that you even understood the basic problems with pantheons in role-playing games. I wonder if it has something to do with the crunch, like how STEM-heads don't get literature and the humanities. You seem to have tackled the issue almost entirely from a numbers angle, like a quantitative analysis - how powerful, chances of interactions, etc. but didn't engage with the underlying metaphysical, philosophical or literary aspects at all, and left verisimilitude and roleplay totally out of the equation. Also FWIW Deism is not "God has too much else going on to engage with you specifically all the time," as if he's some overextended single mother struggling with a toddler, a teenager and a 9 to 5. It's that God is a Watchmaker who sets the world on its course through mechanical laws. He doesn't bother interacting because he has no need or desire to; everything is going according to his mechanistic designs.

    • @SageMasterRPG
      @SageMasterRPG 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Deism is the belief in a God who created the world but hasn’t gotten involved with people since then - as opposed to theism, whose God still takes an active role in the world. I didn't say that god was too busy, I stated that god had other things to view that it viewed more important than Joe PC Schmoo. Yes, I handled the topic as a designer. Using numbers and mechanics to resolve a situation. Then the GM can adjust around the mechanics. Dice are random number generators and add a useful level uncertainty to the game. If you use dice properly, you remove railroading the group. Crispy gamers generally dislike the mechanics because they want the freedom to talk out of everything. Sometimes you need stats to show that somethings can't be talked out of. My way does show the power of a god in proper aspect. I did briefly mention how pantheons can have a family aspect. That if you have this loose large pantheon where there is a group of 'brother' earth minor gods it can cause issues. If you fight one god, you would be fighting other earth gods on nearby mountains. The more lesser gods requires more detailed list of all the gods in the pantheon. I mentioned how if a battle occurred on a mountain, then the possibility of that god having a war aspect is there. I question if you actually watched all of my video.

    • @jamestitus472
      @jamestitus472 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SageMasterRPG I think that's all fair, and as I said, a difference in approach. But it doesn't really address any of Pointy Hats gripes about Gods at all in DND. In many ways it just doubles down on them. Moreover, quantifying a God immediately pulls it out of the realm of infinity and inscrutability and into the finite material we are so familiar with; it crumbles mystery, mysticism, and frankly any verisimilitude of faith. (Also, players don't tend to view stat blocks in-game.) Yes, I watched the whole thing. I recall that bit, and I don't know why you're bringing it up because it doesn't really address anything I've said, to my understanding. I thought it was generally one of the weaker points of the video, that showed how the video itself didn't engage with what PH was trying to do with the many gods bit. i.e. Ghibli / Shinto. I'm glad to see more engagement on the topic overall, and indeed an attempt to directly respond to Pointy Hat's video. I commend that effort. I just think it didn't add anything to the conversation that interested me personally. Yet I'm still engaging for the algorithm, discussion, etc.

    We used rolemaster rules but the warhammer world , ran an initial campaign alongside our Wfb tabletop wargame campaign so the two coincided .

      That's a fantastic world, I loved it when I played Warhammer fantasy RP. I wonder if it would be possible to convert Warhammer battles into War Law?

    D. A. Fox even said that corpos and himself got together to shut it down, this losing decades of history to our hobby. All that old TSR stuff, Indie pubs, etc all gone now because they don't want it around being competitive

    One facet to this topic often overlooked is that the 'law' allows copyright holders/publishers to steal content paid-for by the consumer back from them with no recourse. For example; DRM music or Region Locking DVDs or withdrawing online functionality for computer games. + the whole no-repair, planned obsolescence topic So it is interesting how the publishers are allowed to be morally corrupt, but the little guy downloading a pdf is framed as a terrible scourge.

    That is a cool idea, and it could really change things. Maybe a stealthy hobbit Nazgul could actually enter Rivendell. I would laugh seeing the undead pony that the hobbit Nazgul chasing after the victim. A killer Shetland pony....

    This video encapsulates why some ie more people don’t play RM. I love the game but when you mention needing a calculator…people’s eyes glass over as doing math isn’t a fun part of any game.

    Look into torrenting. The information is out there, just search for it... I'd also recommend a VPN.
