The best doctors I've had were DOs. Their approach is far more holistic while my experience with MDs is that they just want to give you drugs. MDs mindset in my experience (and I'm almost 50) is that they practice reactive medicine, they do not focus on natural methods of healing (simple things like nutrition which I don't believe you even learn about in an MD program) unlike functional doctors and DOs. I come from a family of MDs including my own father and I'm well aware that healthcare isn't really healthcare in this country, it's "illness care." Most meds have side effects, so even if it solves the problem that it's supposed to solve, I'm still dealing with side effects that can be just as debilitating. I'm not impressed with most MDs or the way they "heal" patients.

Mayo Clinic is a blessing from God. After the three tornadoes in 1883, the sisters of St. Francis were able to come up with enough money to build St. Mary’s Hospital. Dr. Mayo didn’t believe they could do it, but they did. The sons of Dr. Mayo, the Mayo brothers, worked as staff doctors and surgeons. They hired Henry Plummer, who was both an engineer and a medical doctor. Plummer designed patient-centered care, the medical care that we know to be modern medicine today. He created modern medicine. He knew that each patient was different and needed a different type of care. Thus, medical specialties were born. Doctors specialized in different types of medicine. Patients would meet with doctors that specialized in the types of medicine that corresponded with their illness. Dr. Plummer also designed the Plummer building to be naturally cooled by water. There was a water fountain that was built in the main level of the building, which cooled air entering the building and carried it upwards, through the building to cool it. Forgot to mention the Holy Sisters of St. Francis. They were the nurses of the hospital, and they still volunteer themselves to this day. The Mayo Clinic wouldn’t be here without them. They raised what would would be hundreds of millions of dollars today to build St. Mary’s Hospital. Dr. Mayo didn’t believe they could do it, but they did. There was never a contract, just a handshake and a lot of faith.

MD is the goal. Speaking as a DO. If you shoot for the stars and land on the moon it's all good. That is what the difference between a US MD and a DO. MD keeps all doors all options open. DO some doors will be closed, or less doors will be open for you. Competitive fellowship, competitive specialty will be harder to get into as a DO. That is the truth especially after the AOA and ACGME combined. I am grateful to be a DO but this is the truth.

Unfortunately, too many famous and loved people are leaving this world too early and unexpectedly, in most movies we watch doctors apply an electroshock plus an oldschool extremely vigorous pushing to their chest /an area close to heart, lungs, stomach/ in a good /but never doubted technica/ and attempt for revival. If you got more than a million dollars I bet you can go to Mayo Clinic my doctor tried to get me I into the Mayo Clinic because I have a series of rare diseases and they gave me an estimate of $15,000 for a 30 minute visit they wouldn’t even review my medical records without paying $15,0000 dollars. So I have to go see every other doctor I can’t afford to be able to maybe get into the Mayo Clinic . I think that pretty terrible of Mayo Clinic to risk patients life like mine because I can’t afford to pay for treatment worth a million dollars.

Dude I had a transplant at the mayo 10/10 best hospital. My number 2 is Masonic children hospital in Minneapolis. But mayo number one for pediatric transplant

Glad you mention board scores. It almost doesn’t matter what you want to be if you can’t get an interview. With Step 2 still having a score best believe you better score as high as possible.

My wife and I have been there 22 times - including 3 major open abdominal surgeries for a rare cancer. Every visit except has been perfect. Some of the rooms at Methodist Hospital are terrible - small, old fashioned. I think this may be addressed through new construction??

Can you also share the methodology of children's hospitals?
