Deers here in southwest Nova Scotia eat astilbe to the ground! After two seasons of trying to grow astilbe I ripped them out because deers just won’t leave them alone. Deers love hosta and peonies too. Ripped out both hosta and peonies. Deer eat echinacea, black eyed Susan’s, tickseed and coreopsis, goats beard, Solomon seal. Ornamental grasses are pretty safe. It’s actually Karl forrester grass not Karl foster. Columbine is a deer favourite here, right to the ground. Bee balm is not deer resistant at all. The deers seem to love bee balm here.

Beautiful gardens! Thank you for sharing. Why are so many of your roses growing in pots? What do you do with them in winter? I have to pull and destroy several of my David Austin’s due to rose rosette. I’m inspired to add a few back to my garden and grow in pots to avoid disease. I would love your input on how you manage your potted roses. Also what zone are you? Many thanks!

I believe my year-old Walker's Low and Cat's Meow had spider mites, because the leaves had white dots on them and when I shook the plant on white paper, I could see them. I tried spraying with water, neem, and a recipe of rubbing alcohol, peppermint Castile soap, and water I'd found online, but in the end, they died. Leaves started with stippling, yellowed, browned, then died. I have another Walker's Low that is maybe 2 years old that has been fine until this year, but now it looks like it has spider mites, too, with that same white dot pattern on the leaves. This summer has been unusually hot. I'm in zone 7a. I had taken catmint cuttings to propagate, and even those plants have gotten mites. So far, they seem to be recovering by spraying the pests off with water. I love catmint, but I may substitute with salvia and lavender, which may be easier for me.

Robin, so good to see you and thank you for the latest tour of your garden. I love being introduced to new plants - thanks to you, burnet is a new obsession. I think I will try winter sowing some seeds in 2025. I appreciate you telling it like it is with gardening - the good, bad and ugly. Gardening is hard work. I love plants, but I don’t love heat and humidity! I really enjoyed the video you did last year of a garden redesign/installation at a client’s home. More of that type of video would be interesting, if your clients are up for it. But, I never get tired of seeing your garden beds throughout the growing season. I do have a question about Double Play Blue Kazoo Spirea - when does it start to blue up for you? I’m in Zone 6b, Northeast Ohio. Thanks again for taking the time to share your knowledge and gardens with us.

A cutting garden, vegetable garden tour with a recipe or another spotlight on your containers, any lilies in containers this year? I have only found and squished a few red lily beetles this summer, my plants look good, hardly any damage. Have you noticed a decrease in the beetles this year? Keep creating content! Enjoy your weekend gardening.

I think your gardens are beautiful. I have a hard time watching your videos because you move the camera around so quickly, you talk about things that aren't in frame or are not focused on, and you don't always use the common name of plants. A lot of times, I can't even tell what plant you are talking about. I really want to see what you have going on in your gardens because I think you have so much information to offer... it is just a bit frustrating to try to follow. Please slow down and focus the camera on the plants that you are talking about.
