I run into two Air Conditioning units that wires melted. The wires melted near the connection to the contactor. I find loose wire connections, which caused higher amps to melt the wire. An undersized wire also can melt. Most of the time the wire melts from a loose connection somewhere in the electric circuit. Therefore I checked the units for any loose wiring. I go over how I seal threaded water pipe fittings. I’m connecting threaded black pipe. I first clean off threads on black pipe. Next I wrap Teflon tape clockwise around threads. After the Teflon I apply a small amount of pipe dope. Now the pipe can be threaded into fitting. I am finishing the supply line off my boiler. When tightening threaded pipe, never back out the pipe, turning to the left....

Mine just lift up at end where gas is shot into them and pull out. If looks similar to these that probably all you have to do

I put a ball valve between the A coil and trap, then on the clean out I installed a threaded fitting so I can hook a hose to the system and flush it out occasionally

The instructions for the primer and glue I sold at Home Hardware are different than the instructions you show in your video. They say to prime the fitting, prime the pipe and then prime the fitting again. Then you put glue on the pipe then the fitting and a second time on the pipe. I see that you prime both the fitting and the pipe only once. Then you put glue only on the pipe and use just one coat. Is this how you do it for all PVC applications or just for this because there no pressure to cause it to leak.
The Drain line should have an air vent after the trap....
Where is that required by code for condensate line? I know that plumbing drain lines need to be vented, but I've never heard of that requirement for condensate. I think they're generally empty enough that they vent themselves - b/c they're generally draining to atmosphere.
@@sowellfan perhaps a cap on that cleanup and then a vent that opens below the level of the top of the trap so if there's a backup, it'll also drain out of the vent instead of the backing up into the system, unless it's connected to main drain?
That's what I thought. I put a cap on mine and it started going into my backup pan out my backup drain line to my garage driveway
Do you recommend keeping a cap on the upward pipe or is it ok to have it off? I'm asking because our house was built 2 years ago and the builders never put one on.

ok so your old drain is not up to code and pitched about 15* downhill, your new drain is not up to code and pitched about 15* downhill but has a Union ... which does not satisfy the new standard for a non destructive method of cleanout. just gives you an opportunity to make a bigger mess. a second union between unit and trap would work ... you haven't satisfied the IEC mandate for Condensate pipe insulation. or the IRC standards for overflow protection. and for modern equipment a P-Trap isn't deep enough, a j-Trap is required.
Can you cite some chapter & verse here on your code-talk here? At 2021 IMC 307.2.5 it says, "Condensate drain lines shall be configured to permit the clearing of blockages and performance of maintenance without requiring the drain line to be cut." - seems to me that his setup here doesn't require cutting of any drain line for maintenance. Also, I'm not seeing any code requirement differentiating between P-traps and J-traps. What kind of install manuals are you seeing this in?
Very good video. My A/C drain line comes out from the pan, makes a couple 90% turns and connects up to the PVC drain that goes to the floor drain. I don't see any P trap. Should I install a P trap? Does your PVC cutter cut the pipe straight? I had purchased one that cut the pipe but the cut wasn't perpendicular, it was on a slant. I returned the cutter. Do you have a recommendation for a PVC cutter?

I added a HS kit. I also went from a single pole to a double pole contactor. Should I hook the HS relay BEFORE or AFTER the my new switched pole?
Before the contractor would also basically mean your whole house would use it too
what type of wire you used to connect the capacitor to the contactor? Mine is cooked so bad and I can't see any markings on the side.

Hi Bill . I have question for you . I have cast iron boiler made by slant fin , it is direct vent Victory model . Boiler is over 20 years old by now. I removed old circular pump on return side of boiler do to pump rusted and leaking water . Treaded part of boiler on return side have internal threads it 1-1/2 diameter and they are not in prefect condition do to age of boiler , I can still able to thread new pipe in boiler . My question is how do you sill this old threads to make leak free connection? Thank you
So, if it is in the summer, and the compressor heater isn't required. You can at minimum substitute a two pole with a single pole without any concern? Fan dosen't have to be hot?

Hello - i have a few questions... this looks similar to what we have in our attic. What if the clean out isn't capped off, does that cause problems? If you know there is a clog and want to use the air compressor to push the clog out of the drain, can you use the clean out spot or is it better to create one of those sections where you can easily take the PVC apart?

If you have a tee on yours like he installed on his, it should definitely be capped. You can look up static air pressure. Basically it will pull in air so much that water will stay in your pan and potentially overflow. As far as the air compressor, I feel like that is preference based. In my opinion air is a quick solution to get it clear, but flushing with bleach or vinegar will probably suit you better.

@@petesingh292Incorrect, if you don't cap the clean out tee that is after the A coil but before the trap then when the air handler turns on it will suck air through the clean out hole not allowing the a coil pan to drain, if you look at it while running you would see the water being sucked back in the unit
So I have a question. What is the trick with the pressure washer. My boss told me I need one to clean the coils, so I bought one. No idea what I am supposed to do. Do I just aim straight and hope for the best or is there a trick.

Just had a unit installed 5/6. AC stopped working this morning 5/12. Called the installer which doesn't have the greatest reviews, they came out and found a burnt/melted wire on that side of the contactor. Said it had to be a surge and charged me $321 for the repair. I know that is. You know that's bs. I have no problem stopping the check.... however, what do I need to do to assure this doesn't happen again? It's a brand new unit. Do I need to pay another company to come check everything or can I just check certain connections?

No eye protection, heating the copper pipe with a direct flame as opposed to heating the body of the valve. C- at best.
I thought you are not suppose to heat the body of valve since it could burn the rubber ring inside?
Using a wet rag is not a a good idea.
What problem(s) arise from using a wet rag?

Apollo says their EZ-Solder bronze ball valves don't require low heat solder but they say 410 degree solder helps. Especially that I need to wet wrap an elbow only 3/4" from the valve I'm looking to replace. I looked at the prices of Sterling low heat solder.. expensive! I only need to solder 2 of these heavy duty 70LF20401 apollo valves. Thanks.
WRONG never use tape and pipe dope, pipe dope needs to contact the metal threads for it to work and if you use tape and pipe dope the pipe dope won't contact the metal threads on one side.
Wrong, it's not a never are always answer. North Carolina office of the state fire marshal and engineering division for instance requires what the instructions on the tape used are. If tape says no dope, then no dope, if tape says may be used with dope, then it may be both. Some states, counties, and cities require that teflon tape and pipe dope be used together for plumbing pipes and natural gas lines in all residential homes. Some states, counties, and cities require use of only one.
