  • My customer complains the air conditioner makes a musky, wet sock smell, inside the building. Therefore I am cleaning the evaporator coil. I am using a pressure washer to clean the AC units evaporator coil. First I opened all the HVAC RTU AC panels to access the evaporator. I take a big garbage bag and cover the blower motor and the blower wheel housing. The access panel are used to block water from spraying into the return dock. Next coil cleaner is applied all over the coil. After, coil cleaner is applied I allow time, to soak in. Wants to coil cleaner has time to break up anything inside the coil a spray the coil Clean using a pressure washer. This helps push any kind of dirt or any buildup inside the coil through. Usually in evaporator coil though will self rinse Any remaining soap from condensation. After I clean all the soap off of the evaporator coil, I place condensate drain pan tablets to help prevent any kind of bacteria growing in the drain pan.

So I have a question. What is the trick with the pressure washer. My boss told me I need one to clean the coils, so I bought one. No idea what I am supposed to do. Do I just aim straight and hope for the best or is there a trick.

Surprised to see a pressure washer used for that. No damage to the coil fins I guess

Never damaged a coil with a pressure washer. You also have to be careful and know what your doing. I don’t use pressure washers on residential condensers.
