Drink tea and chat about mental health
มุมมอง 9414 วันที่ผ่านมา
Put the kettle on, make a cup of tea and join me for a chat about protecting my mental health. As someone who's previously struggled with his mental health, I need to take extra steps to protect it to prevent it becoming bad again. What's helped me most is: going to the gym, talking about my mental health, deleting my social media and realising mental health fluctuates and that's ok.

I'm simply deleting everything like ig, discord, Twitter etc just because 1. Social interactions are exhausting for me 2. I'm not gaining shit from these meaningless conversations 3. I'm comparing myself to others constantly. 4.none of the bonds are real. While yes there are a few cases where people meet up irl with their online friends or partners...that's few and far between. I don't know these people. I can't see these people. I've TRIED long distance relationships and my god...hell on earth. Paranoia, doubt and so much more. I refuse to be stuck in that dopamine cage

I'm learning Chinese and after almost 300 days I have very similar experience. Duolingo is good for the basics, but it's not good to really make you speak a language. So I'll rather use my time more wisely from now on and instead will look for better apps, but also I will actually sit down, do my vocabulary, do my hanzi to make sure one day I can communicate with my girlfriend's parents.

I've quit social media for two months and I am feeling the exact emotions you mentioned. Second month is definitely harder compared to the first month. But now I understand that this is the time to form a new hobby to distract my mind. As you mentioned in the video, I've also started to get more interested in fitness. I'll also try reading and writing in my free time. Great video it really helped clear my mind.

Everyone who says they feel loneliness after social media I felt it with social media… but then when I started reading my Bible it gave me sooooooo much sense of belonging hope and joy… it’s like no other book try it for a few days and you will tell the difference. I’m not sure how it will work for none Christian because they don’t have God’s Spirit to open up the scripture to them and to them it might seem like just reading a book but you know it might become even more interesting to you… although we are meant for connection as God has attended and no one is to live this life lonely or alone… there’s a place in every human heart that craves that unsatisfying need to be loved and the reason why it has not been filled is because it’s only and I mean ONLY MEANT FOR JESUS.. I hope this helps And if you doubt what I am saying ask God to reveal Himself to because you need to know Him and that you Need Him because if not man is most miserable with the Creator and I’m not talking about this new age demonic stuff I’m talking about the Living God who created then universe and Sent His Son Jesus to die for us all… Thank me later.. I love you guys and Thank you sooooo soooo much young man for this video because even though I know Jesus I’m not exempt of feeling lonliness at times due to not interacting with others for educational purposes we are all meant for connections❤

I came back just to check it, but it's always the same: same people, some new photos, some new reals. Nothing new. I'm really thinking about deleting the app for some years. And as well i hope to overcome fear and post some video here on youtube that I made. You're doing a great job! :)

Have you read the book ‘The Shallows’ by Nicholas Carr? He says in that book that the internet as a whole could be effecting our nervous system. There could be some truth to that as we’re all anxious these days. It could be the internet and screens in general rather than social media. Scary stuff…

I still have an Instagram account but I deleted the app from my phone in January. Had to. It was getting to the point where I was sick of looking at other peoples lives. It was making me so anxious and jealous. But not I’ve been off it for a while it makes me realise how stupid it all is. Comparison is the thief of joy!

Putting your phone in black and white really helps too but I've learnt a really quick way of undoing it so I'm constantly switching it back to colour to get that dopamine hit. It's so annoying. I've bought 2-3 dumbphones in the past but ended up going back to my smartphone for other things like maps and banking. I try so hard all the time to stay off my phone and social media, but as soon as I see someone else on their phone or see them scrolling... I'm sucked back into it myself
