Sailing Onward
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ธ.ค. 2023
We are Eric and Anna and we are sailing the world and giving back as we go. We are excited to share our journey with you. We met on Tinder and 6 weeks later bought a sailboat. Here we are 10 months later setting out on the greatest adventure of our life.
Sailing From the Statue of Liberty to Port Washington!
Last leg of the Hudson River into New York City. We anchor near the Statue of Liberty and continue onward through Hell's Gate. Eventually to Port Washington, where we take the train back to the city to catch a broadway show, grab some scuba tanks and meet up with an old highschool friend.

I’m proud of you that takes a lot of work
Will be fishy but wow awesome job
@@jimbroadway5857 Thanks Jim! Caught it on your dipsy, flasher and fly rig!
Saw you in North Cove Old Saybrook CT. Nice looking boat. Where did you go next? Do you travel south in the winter or haul for winter storage?
Thank you. We sailed to Block Island then we head to Port Washington and from there we head south for the winter. This is our first time owning a boat so everything is new. We plan to sail around the world.
Spanish mackerel
@@glenchase1294 thank you!
Looks like a mackerel, maybe a Boston Mackerel?
That was our thought.
Bait.
So awesome to share your experiences in New York City! ❤
Love you. ❤
OH Wow, nice Job navigating the chaos! Helicopter and jet noise isn't pleasant to sleep or wake up to! Its so great to have the contrast of different places -then we def appreciate the peace and calm of nature! I'm really enjoying your adventures! Wishing fair winds and following seas.
I am so glad you are enjoying following along. I love it the most when it is just us and nature. Always searching out those quiet gems.
I know every short in unnecessary but this one is by far the most unnecessary
Thanks for watching.

Nice looking blue crabs
Thank you 😋
@@SailingOnward you are welcome I'm also an aristocrat and enjoy crabs 🦀
crab salad man just drop mines in a pot 🤣💯
That is probably much easier.
Not enough 😂😢
We had leftovers!
Yummm
So delicious!
I brought home crabs to my wife once before She left me the next morning
@@Shaun-eq3cx don’t blame her.
Sunrises and sunsets never get old on the water
Agreed!
To Hell with bok choy salad BS. Just steam them with Old Bay seasoning. That's how you eat crabs.
No vegetable haters on here please. ❤
This kills the crab
No it doesn’t
Unfortunately it does.
@@SailingOnward no
I heve not figured out your anchor rode arrangement. Clearly you’re using a rope rode, yet there’s chain on the anchor, and chain on deck. So it’s not just a long snubber. How can you have chain on the anchor, as evidenced by when the anchor comes aboard, and yet have chain on deck while the anchor is down?
@@johnbeck2797 we have about 20’ of chain attached to the anchor and 150’ of rope attached to the chain. There is never chain on the deck when the anchor is down only rope. I wish we had more chain then we wouldn’t have to put out so much rope when we anchor. Hope that helps.
@@SailingOnward Thanks! That explains it My eyes deceived me; it looked to me like there was chain on board when the anchor was down,.
How'd the paint job on the dingy come out? Took a pic of your boat too.
It turned out so good! Would love to see the picture of our boat.
Bok choy? Ooo yummy!
It was so good with the crab and garlic jam!
I have crabs :(
Sorry to hear that. 😢
Man that’s sounds good😊
It is pretty fun to catch your own food!
I never ate crabs but sound good!
They are a lot of work to clean but so delicious!
It's a UFO alright
Hey guys! awesome video. We traveled along this same route in 2022 during our maiden voyage! currently editing episode 5 where we venture through the Erie Canal. Love your perspective!!
@@sailing.everyday how cool is that! Can’t wait to see your journey down the canal.
@@SailingOnward Thanks so much!!
Good luck with that😅
Love seeing all the sights. And your videos are looking really good!
Glad you are enjoying them. ❤

That sky is going in my "to paint" folder...I can imagine a sloop at anchor on that mooring bouy.
Can’t wait to see the finished product! Make sure to add some sparrows in the sky. There probably a million.
❤thanks for the episode
East coast is full of rude people. Get used to it until you get further south. NY city area especially. Western NY is a lot more civil. Wait for the NJ DE MD VA idiots. Your journey into further rudeness awaits! You will wonder why you ever left Wisconsin.
I love hearing stories about people making large transits that eventually take them down through the Chesapeake. However the timing is always such that videos go up way after they have been there already. I have always just wanted to "help" someone find a nice spot to stay for a bit, help them provision, and just hear about their journey. My bet is you are either there already or close. Hope you have a great experience down the Chessie, it's a great body of water that unfortunately you will only just pass through. Fair winds from a fellow Cheesehead. SV Independence.
You are in luck! We have been hanging out in the Long Island Sound and won’t be to the Chesapeake until next month sometime so we will take all your tips! Is there anywhere we could stay for a few days with reasonable access to an airport? I am trying to do shorts on TH-cam that keep people realtime up to date on our location since the videos are a couple weeks behind. Thank you for watching.
@@SailingOnward I am going to assume "commercial" airport access. BWI is pretty close to the Bay, and there are 3 marinas you could stay at that I believe have deep enough water. Now I say deep enough, assuming you aren't drawing 6+. The Chesapeake is rather shallow on and around the shores! Nabbs Creek Marina, Maryland Yacht Club, and Fairview Marina are all relatively close and def UBER'able. All can be seen on Dockwa for pricing and amenities and of course ratings. There are others, but you would need to do some hunting around. If you just need a municipal airport, check out offerings on "Middle River" which actually partially straddles Martin State Airport, which is a fine place to land, having do so with friends many time. (with a military escort once, its a great story!) Some of the marinas are closer to that facility than others and depth does matter further in. Maryland Marina is a great option, they are nestled in one of the creeks with easy access to the airport. Not walkable but a 5 min UBER ride. There are HUNDREDS of other marinas on the Western Shore that could possible work, but since I have been in place @ Maryland Marina for 30 years I don't get out much locally.
Wow. You and rough weather. You did great, as I sit in my recliner lol. Glad you had an easy repair. Fun to see West Point, knowing I had been right there. Another great video .
We should have listened to the guy that told us to wait out the storm. We just don’t like to sit still for very long. 😂😂😂
Poughkeepsie - pronounce it “Pohkipsy.” Sail safely. Keep living the dream. Go Badgers!
We are doing our best! Are you from Wisconsin?
@@SailingOnward - Originally from the NYC area and now many years in Madison. While you were in Troy, NY and fighting your engine concerns, I was literally a few miles away from you in Saratoga Springs, NY. And where you probably anchored by Ellis Island, if I was still in my NY office, I would be able see you from my office windows. I used to sail NY Harbor during the week and on the LI Sound on weekends. Grew up sailing and boating all around that area all the way out to the east end of Long Island and the Great South Bay. You are living the dream. Be safe. Be patient. Enjoy every minute of it. You are very fortunate to be able to live this lifestyle.
@@xnyrage It’s a small world after all. We are currently spending time in the LI Sound. Any recommendations?
@@SailingOnward - Oh. So many. What people fail to realize is the size of the area. Once through Hell's Gate and under the Throgs Neck Bridge, it's a very long coastline to the north along Westchester NY, Connecticut, and Rhode Island and to the south 120 or so miles of Long Island. Lots of very cool history on both side. Do you have a way for me to contact you electronically that you can share -- via some social app, etc. I can write a novel here.

you gave us history, rain, locks, showing maps, and an amazing time. I'm loving this so much. Are you going by West Point Military Base? We were there and saw our daughter and the great Hudson River. Thanks for letting us know about this trip Anna.
