Sailing Onward
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ธ.ค. 2023
We are Eric and Anna and we are sailing the world and giving back as we go. We are excited to share our journey with you. We met on Tinder and 6 weeks later bought a sailboat. Here we are 10 months later setting out on the greatest adventure of our life.
When NOT to cross the Gulf Stream
In this episode, we make the decision to cross the Gulf Stream to The Bahamas in the wrong conditions. Anna gets sick most of the way, but we survive. Eric catches a Barracuda and even a Cero for Christmas Eve dinner!
We explore a deserted island, anchor in the landing path of an airport and have a wonderful Christmas beach walk looking for sea glass!

We spend 1 month in Boot Key Harbor near at Marathon Key. We acquire a few dinghies, buy and install a water maker, replace part of our exhaust and of course party with the locals. We also provision for Cuba and the bahamas. The best part was snorkeling at Sombrero Reef! Crossed to the Bahamas, spent 2 weeks there, crossed back to West Palm Beach. Heading back to the keys to pick up some packages and then back to the Bahamas.
Confused thought you was In the keys crossing to the Bahamas
it gets really really lumpy out of the north!! But I guess you know that now. :). I lost a dinghy somewhere there too
Nothing like donating a dinghy to the ocean. Hopefully we are once and done on that one.
@@SailingOnward I wonder where they all go?? I remember doing this sail with my grandpa as a kid and somebody had lost a dinghy then too...that was the 1960s! Good luck on your crossing!
My first thought: "we did it again...we lost our dingy"😂 Thank the lord that wasn't it.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
NL HS diploma... yup! Hahah
Actually I graduated top of my class in the Pacific Northwest. Must be some other cause of us always throwing caution to the wind and choosing adventure over safety.
George-ous! Wow, so paint worthy!
It was for sure!
Very cool
Right!
So awesome!!
@@adventureswithashley- thank you.
Loved this video - glad you made it to the Bahamas safely. Happy New Year! 🎉
Happy New Year to you, too! So far so good since we arrived here.
You guys are by far my favorite sailing channel now. Thank you for the escape. Can you tell me why you motored across the gulf stream
Because our route was dead into the wind and we didn’t want to wait to leave. Probably won’t do that again. So glad to have you joining us on our journey and what an amazing complement!
Great video, glad you are safe! Hoping for smooth sailing!
Thank you! So far so good in the smooth sailing department. Completely flat seas last night. Thank you for watching.
That is a long crossing from Marathon, easier if you go from farther up the Keys. Interesting open stern dinghy- you might consider chaps for the tubes and covers for the gas and diesel jerry cans- makes them all last longer.
We were told to go further north but we never do the easy or sensible thing. I just got a sewing machine so I shall be sewing a bunch of things.
Motor yachts and cruisers wait for flat seas and no wind, sailors wait for the wind to pipe up from the right direction and Go!
Wind in the correct direction would have made it much better. Motoring dead into the wind was a dumb idea. 😂
I have no crossing experience. But would putting up your sail have helped smooth out the ride?
If we hadn’t been dead into the wind we would have. Is there a way that we could have done it heading straight into the wind?
@SailingOnward nope! Didn't catch that. Thanks for the response.
@SailingOnward I was trying not to ask a dumb question but I watched your video again and you don't once say that the wind is against you and that's why you are motoring. Cheers.
@@slory17 thanks, we have talked about adding more story and details to our videos.
@SailingOnward this is slory's sailboat channel. I told my friends before we left, "I'm trying to be a sailor, not a youtuber." The last thing I thought about while we were kedging ourselves of a sandbar was to get out the camera. I like your style and story, thanks for making these as I hope to do a similar crossing in the next few months.
Loving your adventure - I collected so much beach glass I created a new rule - absolutely no shiny or sharp edges, tumbled smooth only! It becomes more fun and your selection is more critical. Blues are my favorite, but I actually have some red (highly prized) and the occasional different color. Keep smiling and having fun, my two and a half years singlehanding went by too fast, but the memories and photos are forever! 🤙🏼❤️
Blue is Eric’s favorite as well. Haven’t found any red yet. Thank you for following along.
😊 We’re gonna try something “relaxing” 😂😂 🐠🐠 I’m very happy for y’all. Happy New Year! Fair winds and following seas!!
So far so good! We shall see how long I can keep it up. Almost finished 2 reading books already. I hope 2025 brings blessings beyond imagination!
Nice video, I like your style and I am impressed with the Mermaid Tears. Thank you for taking me along.
Thank you for the complements. Glad you are along for the journey!
Nice video guys! I can see you're loving it! What is the make of your boat? Is that a Catalina?
Thank you! It's our calling! You bet ya, a Catalina 36
I really enjoy you two 👍👍easy going and good content ❤❤
Thank you for following along. It makes us super happy that you enjoy our videos.
And I sailed my 10.7 meter sloop MOSTLY alone from San Diego, Calif thru the Panama canal and on up to Ft Myers Florida. Many solo overnighters.. AND a couple THUMPS in the middle of the night.. Lived on her for 8 years.. YES ADVENTURES !!
The Panama Canal sounds like an adventure alone. What an adventure! Thanks for watching

@@jeffreyalberson9742 we love hearing that from people watching our videos! Merry Christmas thanks for watching.

Merry Christmas to you as well.
what boat you got? how much is mooring?
Catalina 36 and $380 per month.
Its great to see your enthusiasm for living on the boat in Florida. You are not going to believe the Bahamas. Florida's water is all polluted, even offshore at the reefs and the coral has died as you could plainly see. You will arrive at the Bahama banks to water so clear you can see everything on the bottom in over 100 feet, and vividly colorful reefs of living corals.
So far we are loving the Bahamas!
😊😍😍😍😍
I hope you have a wonderful holiday. ❤
Hate we missed you guys
Us too. We may have to come back to Florida to pick up some packages. Loving the Bahamas though.
It was so nice meeting you both! We are glad y'all are enjoying your journey (& the TakaCat). Looking forward to following your adventure and crossing paths again in the islands. #fairwindsandfollowingseas #boatlife 🌊
So great to hear from you two! We still talk about you and your boat! Looking forward to running into you in the tropics!

We love to hear from people that run into us! or at least see us. Thanks for watching!
So awesome, seeing the distance in days and miles between Christmas 2023 and 2024. Have a great one, you two!
Eric sure looked young a year ago haha... We have come a long way that is for sure! Happy Holidays, thanks for watching!
Great video! You’re a rockstar… we need to chat about doing nighttime on ICW… could be in our future if the weather doesn’t cooperate. ❤

@SailingOnward oh no! Sea state rough, heavy winds? I've been following the Vendee Globe and have loved the reports they give.
