    Great idea, I wonder if a similar design could be used for 7.62x39 AK-47 magazines. I don't see it wouldn't as the magwells are relatively straight even though AK mags are curved. I would honestly be interested in buying one if you made it. (It's basically just slabs of wood so there shouldn't be any problems with shipping.)

    Nice Straight design probably one of the slimmer designs I've seen so far. I may mimic the shape here in my own style.

    Any idea why most people make these in a CURVE shape? Yes the mags are slightly curved, but does yours work just as well straight?

    • @diybyme5387
      @diybyme5387 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The curve is a waste of time. I guess if you have a router and are looking to spend time on a project then great. I was looking to spend zero time on this. LOL

    • @romansten9
      @romansten9 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      DIY By Me I.agree. I.have a router, but its much smarter, easier and faster to add rails rather than remove wood, and keep it straight, as wel as compact. And Its a practical device, not an artistic wall hanging. Some people get hung up.on.fine woods and stains. Thats fine, but not necessary.

    • @shannonp4037
      @shannonp4037 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Late but.....I think the curve is to accommodate the natural rounding of the ammo since the tips are more narrow than the base. Keeps them tighter.

    Does this work with masculine magazines? You know the ones with metal feed lips.

    • @diybyme5387
      @diybyme5387 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should as long as there is nothing unusual about the magazine feed lips. Tweaked, bent, or distorted. See this TH-cam video; th-cam.com/video/P9AuzdyCezU/w-d-xo.html

      Sorry, not making these parts for sale. Personal usage, still trying to find the time to lower the mount 1/2" to 1", then drop the scope lower.

    DIY is great, but i have chosen Podavach magloader for those needs. It can load AK47, AK74 and AR15 at one device. They have patent pending channel, that makes it multi-caliber. Works like a charm.

      Hi Lucas Price would probably add up very fast to try and sell this to you. If I was having 100 pieces made out of China then it would be ok. For me doing it at home, lots of junk laying around, the price is really not bad. Stock $20 + Buffer Tube $20 + Pistol grip $5 + Raw aluminum $20 + Bolts washers $10 + Machining time $75 minimum Polishing aluminum $10 + Coating aluminum $10 +

    • @diybyme5387
      @diybyme5387 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lucas The one I did see floating around the internet. 1/4" steel plate with a buffer tube ring welded to it, the plate was bent to the shape of the exist receiver, but the pistol grip mounting looked really funky. I did not like what I was seeing on the internet so I built my own. The only down side to making it like an AR is the sight picture is moved higher, taller scope rings.

  • @lucask6013
    @lucask6013 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you install the stock to the ar-7?

    • @diybyme5387
      @diybyme5387 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lucas Krull The casting has a thru hole that is counter bored to accept a 1/4-20 allen bolt, that locks the lower part of the casting into the existing stock mounting hole. The casting also has a hole (where the buffer tube screws in) were a 6-32 allen bolt with flat washer is installed, locking the upper half of the casting to the old sight hole.. The grip has its own 1/4-28 screw with flat washer locking it to the casting. Sounds more complex than it is. Made an oversize wooden model. Used the model to make a mold. Poured molten aluminum into the mold. Machined all areas of casting to suit. Drilled and taped for buffer tube. If you can get a ar15 lower cheap enough and have some machining skills, you can make one.

      Sorry, I have not sat down and done the dimensions. I am still thinking of rotating the whole unit 90 degrees, and adding a hopper, so you can just shake it and the bullets will self align, less work to load magazines.

    • @diybyme5387
      @diybyme5387 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I did not base the loader on good dimensions. It was a model based on the PMAG and a 5.56 bullet. I am still modifying it to be even easier to use and make. I was trying to lay it out where just a table saw would cut all the dimensions. The bullet rails and magazine holder were done on a mill..
