Hello Josh, I can try. Luckily, the processor you have is likely a Modicon Quantum, which is even newer than the ones I've shown on this channel. Pretty much all of it will be the same as these 984 Compacts, unless the quantum is only available by Modbus TCP over Ethernet. I will see what I can do, I do have a couple quantums out in my plants. Please let me know if you need the instructions by Modbus, Modbus Plus, or Modbus TCP (Ethernet) If Modbus is your option, let me know if it's a 9 pin D Shell or an RJ45 port and I'll be able to help the most. I understand what you are saying. The controller should have detected the overflow and turned on the bottom right "Less than" pin, not treated the overflow like a normal result. Some of the Quantums are a little bit different than the 984's that I work on more commonly, I might have to go look at one and test what you're asking about and get back to you on it. Some Quantums have signed arithmetic, some instructions have 16 bit math that uses two registers. However, that should not cause what you are describing to happen!

Not sure, sometimes you can plug in a keyboard and see if you can get into a menu. Then you can safe mode boot the thing up and see if anything functions. Usually when I see that it needs the firmware flashed to something newer

It will need to be firmware flashed to whatever version you want it to be. They come out of the box with BootP enabled, so you can use this tool to give them an IP Address, then go ahead and flash it. Or, you could connect to it over USB and flash it that way. To flash it, you can try to download a program into it, and if you have the firmware for the controller it will give you an option to flash the firmware.

Raul, it is possible to do what you're saying, however you need to send explicit messages to each parameter you are trying to control. I may be able to make a video about this if I can locate a 525 drive and a controller to talk to it, but you are going to need to get the drive's manual and start looking for the Instance numbers of the parameters you want to modify. Use CIP Generic read Messages to try to get access to the drive, then turn around the read into a write and see if you can get it working.

Using Cip generic to read , and read in the manual that the N:42:3 in the drive needs to be set to 5 seconds in order to communicate with it and set instructions to the control file of the vfd. The version I know is very old and using it as a teaching tool that my employer allowed us to use for training. I think it's a great lesson to see how control files and read files work together .

The fastest way to do that is to remove the battery and power it down. Give it an hour or so and it should be completely wiped out. There are some models like the 265 that may have flash memory in them. If they do, they will boot up with a program even after removing the battery. The sticker on the side should tell you if they have flash.

I am not a VMware expert. I have run a COM port monitoring tool while the Modbus communication is going on and I feel that there is a lot of COM port traffic. This traffic would be probably going through the USB drivers. I have read people say that one variety of COM-USB device is worse than others, so see if you can try a different adapter as well. Forgive me if you are a computer wizard and this is trivial advice for you, but it might help another person who reads our comments. I would be sure hardware acceleration is enabled in your host PC. This is probably in the BIOS under VT-X and perhaps also VT-D. Then I would make sure I have the best USB interface drivers I could have for your VMWare software. You might also experiment with giving the VM task more (or less) priority and see if it helps with the throughput. I really appreciate your feedback on the video. Thanks for replying. I went ahead trying a different USB to Serial adapter and ensuring my bios settings were enabled. They didn’t help much, but I found a solution that worked. After some more playing with the setting in ProWorxs. I found if I go to Communication Setup in the Controller tab and lowered the Timeout from 20 to 1. It pretty much got rid of all the lag with the update rate being around 2 seconds. I’m not quite sure why this fixed it, but it did. There’s one thing I would like to learn. Do they have away I can export logic from ProWorxs NXT? Preferably to Excel and maybe even pdf of the ladder logic graphic. This would be handy as a quick reference and helpful if we ever migrate it to a new DCS or PLC system.

No rush, but if you ever have time to make a video about it. I’d really appreciate it. I took a quick look at the print feature and see what you mean. ProWorx has a lot of options for choosing what you want to have printed to a printer or PDF.

Can you go to Controller and choose Read From Controller? If this does not work, you probably need to set up a new Database for your PLC, then go online with it and Read From Controller.

Lambro please note that the final number in my path is my PLC slot number in the controlLogix chassis. Most people have their PLC in slot 0. Try this path in the CompactLogix to read or write the ControlLogix: 2, IP ADDRESS of ControlLogix ENBT, 1, 0 If your plc is in slot zero.

If you are trying to configure a message MSG instruction in the control logix you need a different path to reach the CompactLogix. 1, slot of ENBT card in the controlLogix, 2, IP of Compact For example would be 2,1,1,172.21.11.249 If your ENBT card was in slot 1 and the IP of the compact was 172.21.11.249

AutomationDirect seems like a winner. My company is all AB and my old stuff is Modicon Compacts but Ive had a few things from Automation Direct and I like them.

You can obtain Wireshark software to look at the ethernet traffic between your PC and the PLC, this would reveal the PLC IP Address. You can also attempt to use a DF1 serial connection to Go Online with the PLC and find out what the IP address of the PLC is.

You need to go online with the PLC and view the controller properties. There are multiple tabs in controller properties. Some say IP Protocol, some say Ethernet but they will show you the IP Address of the PLC.
