Preparing to fast taxi at Bruntingthorpe back in 2017. Note the huge amount of fuel gushing from the rear vent (00:27), didn't seem to cause any concern to the ground crew-is this a normal thing??

Flight from City Airport Manchester Barton in Eurostar G-CCDX on Sunday, 12th February 2023. Very smooth conditions, but viz not too good for photography. Lovely airfield, friendly, helpful staff.

Anyone know why the fourth didn't run?
WOW, they used to run the RR Tyne engines on the Vickers Vanguard (Merchantman) at Brooklands, but I believe they had to stop as parts were scarce for those engines

Wow that’s amazing to see and hear this those griffon 57 engines. I got to see the Shackleton fly (the growler) at biggin hill would of been very early 90’s there was two there before they were being sold to South Africa iconic aircraft
With the tail wheel, the mk2 looks better than the mk3 when on the ground.

It's been said that a Merlin Engine @ 27 litres burns between 1 and 2 gallons per minute, what a Griffon @ 37 litres would burn at these revs god knows?

Hi chaps, great to see the love here for our old Shackleton. 32 years since retirement, still growling. Later this year she'll be moving from Coventry Airport (as it is slated for redevelopment) to Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington. Sadly its a road move, unless one of us hits the lottery jackpot... Rich Woods
@@Daniel-S1 Midland Air Museum is safe, their land is not included in the redevelopment.

I used to walk past this old girl when in flight school at Coventry airport doing my atpl’s @ Atlantic flight training which is long gone now, dc3, dc6, vampire, Canberra, Shackleton to name a few we’d walk past daily to our little training aircraft the da40 & da42, great memories

Why a start sequence of 2, 3, 4, 1? What engines were these, with 4 dual contra-rotating propellers?
Normally its 3, 4, 2, 1. The engines are started to give the most systems as soon as you can as they all have different accessories. They are Rolls Royce Griffons.
@@biggles19821 So they are not radial air-cooled engines; rather, they are V-12 water-cooled?
@@jazzandbluesculturalherita2547 Thats right. They look very like a radial style cowling due to the large annular radiators at the front.

Every four weeks, minimum. There's a lot less smoke than you'd get with a radial though.

This was my local airport, seen her in real life. Now I' ve moved down past London I ope to find a restoarion community that will teach me how to see ans work on babies like this one when the chivalry lived! This wierd, messed up world may not say this anymore, but I sure as heck will GOD BLESS YOU

No, standard on MR2, AEW2, MR3; they could, when required, mount 2 x 20mm ADEN cannon in the nose, below and either side of the forward observer's Station.

The nose is actually a faired over gun turret, originally it carried two 20mm cannon in the nose, if you look closely you can see where they plated over the original gun openings.

The South African Airforce still do ground engine runs on their Shack Pelican. Due to not having a current flightcrew to opperate her anymore she has been grounded for the time being. I saw her at airshows around Cape Town back in the day. Rarer then hens teeth. She's based at the SAAF Ysterplaat base Museum in Cape Town.
Fantastic ,thanks for brightening up my day . I was a cpl in the griffon engine bay in the 8 sqn hangar at Lossiemouth from 87 to 1990 . It was a great experience ,btw send my regards to Pete Jolly 😊 Cheers Dave Muir
