    There was a field opportunity for Napalm with his 2 last moves, with the road dorito on left shared city and a starting tile, however this is tricky because black could still equalize the field 3 to 3

    • @nallerheim
      @nallerheim 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      it wouldn't result in a win. If Napalm gets the starting tile, Hydro will get the tube divider and the road monastery and can get both of his meeples in as well. However, now that you mentioned this, I realised that the second Napalm drew the road dorito, it was over with optimal play. Napalm needed the road monastery to prevent Hydro from connecting his upper farmer. But if he gets it, then Hydro will be able to connect his other 3-point field via tube divider and starting tile. So unfortunately Hydro was going to equalise the field no matter what

  • @matttucker1689
    @matttucker1689 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for covering the exciting final round of Group B matches and for featuring my deciding game against pollo_verde on your stream! I have to disagree with your analysis that i should be placing a meeple on the 5pt road at 2:22:26 (and the next turn). There are a lot of opportunities to score more points than that with the remaining tiles. There are 2 regular monastery tiles which will score at least as much but probably more and if my opponent draws the roaded monastery and takes the 9pt drop spot they create a 6pt farm. I definitely want to be ensuring i dont overcommit and go meepleless (with quick point tiles still available) and i may still need to use a meeple to neutralise the city at the bottom. In the end, sure i only end up with a 3pt field so we can claim i lost 2pts here. Ultimately pollo_verde did very well to find the winning move on their penultimate turn and then have the tile runout fit their requirements. I dont begrudge them the victory but i also am not feeling like i misplayed the endgame significantly

    • @nallerheim
      @nallerheim หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm often not as aware of the remaining tiles when streaming as oppose to playing myself. Having 3 meeples in hand with only 10 tiles to go just often looks like almost criminal behaviour since it can sometimes get a bit tricky to use all the meeples to lucrative spots

    • @matttucker1689
      @matttucker1689 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I am the same. However you seemed to double down on your opinion postgame - even after you had seen the tile runout. If i am watching and a player makes a seemingly strange move, i wait and see the runout before thinking back to whether this is truly strange or not. In general you are correct 5pt features with 10 tiles to go and 3 meeples in hand are usually worth gobbling up - but not always

    I like group standings a lot. :-) Your math was right this time. Astounding! There’s definitely a lot going on … For those who don’t want to watch Nallerheim’s 30+ minutes of standings musings (from 1:04:00 onwards), here’s the gist: 3 wins likely won’t be good enough for playoffs for at least 1 team, but there’s one set of results where there are only 4 3rd place teams with 3 wins (UK, ROM, COL, PT, FIN, MEX would all need to win their games). As a German player I’m rooting for that scenario. ;-) Group A: tiebreakers of top 3 are good enough to qualify for playoffs, even a 0:5 (0:10) in their last matches likely wouldn’t change that … Group B: ROM could get 3rd place, but would be out anyway as there are already 2 3rds with 3 W and there’ll be at least 2 more (JPN vs. ESP, GER vs. BEL). UK could drop to 4th with 1:4 or 0:5 and GRE winning 5:0 or 4:1 - depending on games diff. Group C: Top 3 are quite safe, but a 5:0 by CAT would make things interesting. ;) They even could get to 2nd place if Latvia would lose 0:5. Group D: FRA is quite safe, considering they are heavy favorites against Peru, even a 2:3 (or 1:4) might be enough to secure 2nd place. BEL and GER need to win at least 4:1 and hope for matches in other groups to go their way to get 4th best 3rd. (Most crucial UK winning against Italy and ARG winning ideally 3:2 +3 or +4 against MEX to pass both on games difference tiebreakers - definitely a long shot.) Group E: HK would need a commanding win against FIN to have a shot at 4th best 3rd. HK could *in theory* overtake both PT and TUT, if TUT would win 4:1 (8:6) against PT and HK 5:0 (10:0 against FIN). If PT would lose 1:4 or 0:5, they could drop to 4th. TUT would need a 4:1 or better to get to 2nd place. A 3:2 might not be enough to secure 3rd place if HK wins 4:1. In reality PT just needs a 2:3 to secure 2nd place and HK should gun for a 5:0. Group F: Winner of JPN vs. ESP will go to the playoffs. If MEX loses against ARG they might lose out on 4th best 3rd, if it’s 2:3 (4:8) or worse ARG will pass them. same goes for POL if they’d lose 1:4 or worse against LIT. A Polish 2:3 should be enough to secure a good enough 3rd place. But there’s an outside chance for ARG to win the group with a 5:0 (10:0) against MEX, ESP - JPN 3:2 (6:7) and POL - LIT 2:3 e. g.

    I have to correct my last comment regarding HK possibly overtaking PT, if the latter would lose 2:3 against Tutejšyja. Even in the best case scenario for HK (5:0, 10:0) both would have 14:11 duels (won:lost), but PT would’ve at least a +6 (34:28) games differential and HK’s upper limit is +5 (33:28). If PT would lose 1:4 or 0:5 though, they could drop to 4th.

    Hello Otto, I'm MadCan, thank you very much for the stream and for commenting on two of my games! Regarding the 'contentious move' in the first game, as I saw it at that moment, it was about freeing a meeple and setting up its entry into the field or closing off a part of the city easily blockable in case the divider happened to come my way, as it eventually did. I had many outs to free a meeple, both from the small city and the monastery. In the end, I couldn't finish closing the big city, but I believe I did the right thing; I just delayed the recovery of a meeple by one turn. In any case, thank you very much for your analysis; it's always very helpful to hear the opinion of someone at your level.

    • @nallerheim
      @nallerheim หลายเดือนก่อน

      I respect it as a content move but I would never do it myself. It provided an opportunity for yellow to finish a 4-point city and drop a second farmer. And the chances of finishing the city and getting the divider were quite low from the beginning. Your monasteries were also threatened to be limited to a FFF (field-field-field) tile which there was only 1 remaining, being the regular monastery. A simple restriction like that could drastically decrease the amount of tiles you can get a meeple back with. Also, is your real name Carlos Aguado? I wouldn't mind updating my list of players

    Hi, I'm Portgard, captain of the Vietnamese team. I sincerely apologize for Wolf Ren's no-show today. He's well informed of the date of the event today, yet he's overslept and we, as a team, apologize for such an action and we guarantee that it will not happen again any time in the future. You mentioned about the practice tournament which finished a few time before the match but it was automatically finished after a week and wolf ren hasn't been online for 3 days so it has no correlation with his absence today. Again, I'm the one to blame for being overconfident that my team members are capable of playing as they should. And I take a good look at your commentary of my 1st game vs Squallus. It was indeed a very bad game of mine with some very questionable decisions, mostly in the early game. When I realized, things kinda went a bit beyond my control already. My last attempt was as you might suggest, connecting the top left meeple with the field with the idea of overtaking the bottom right field of Squallus ( and try not to connect the two field of his, I kept all my meeples until my last 3 moves as a preemptive. It might not have changed the result even if I managed to do so tho, but at least that was the best I could think of at that time. I can learn a lot from your commentary, thanks a lot for that and keep up the great work ;)

Either blocking the field connection, taking a 3-point road or taking a 9-point field on the right by completing the shared city, all of those moves will result in a win for Lapinkoski. • @nallerheim
      @nallerheim 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did consider doing so. However, those monasteries would then be in danger of getting restricted to the final remaining dagger which I already need elsewhere. Furthermore, pointing the road to the right gives my 1-point city slightly more chances to survive as red would spesifically need a road tile to start blocking it. If I point the road end of the road monastery towards north, absolutely any tile will be viable for red to start blocking my 1-point city along with the monastery. Another positive side in having a field-field tile to complete monasteries is that it acts as a new monastery spot

    Thank you very much for the stream! To clarify: After my final move in the final, l had 1 second left on the clock. If Niels would have pointed the dorito with road upward, I would have been able to block his connection to the field with the final curve I got.

    A big thanks for the comments on my game with Nico. I saw the few mistakes I did 😎. Happy for my result after just a bit more than one year of Carcassonne 😊. Finished 5. Better than 9 last year. Will need to improve my game 😉 Fabian

      @@nallerheim Exacly, for exemple, when I extented my city near Nico's monastery instead of leave it safe to close it a bit later... Also, miscounted the triangles and was thinking one with road was still available in addition of two dividers to close my big city. Otherwise I was able to protect it by a straight road. This don't matter as nico got both dividers. Finally, my monastery get my road vulnerable. Always getting something from your lost... 😁 I'm watching your channel really often and already found some useful tips 😎. Thanks for that 😍

    5:16:37 Blue misscounted 1 point here??

      That is correct. Trailing 8 points behind, not 7. Not that is makes any fundamental difference

    4:54:40 I lost from Niels in the round of 16->8. Niels was able to overtake a big castle and finish a 30 point city, and I lost by 15 points or so, so 9th place was the highest I could achieve from that point. I managed to win my other 3 games, so 9th place it was!

    4:40:00 Nico (blue) made this move with 3 seconds on the clock, I think he had 1 second left after making that move!

    2:58:05 Fun fact: Tania is my partner and also made top-16, I'm very proud! Unfortunately she lost all four 2-player games, so she finished 16th.

      The curve of learning is long, educational, bitter, useful and joyful all at the same time! Be sure to give her my compliments for reaching the top 16!
