Beautiful video! Very instructive about how the strategy changes when one type of tile is gone - so many more blocking threats to think about almost on every move!

Thanks a bunch! There were several situations where I was left wondering whether I was blabbering a bit too much but I think it turned out quite decent. After all, it's not every day we get to experience specific starts like this for a game

Congratulations on creating the channel. Keep making new videos, because you will have a lot of content to teach!

Thanks a lot! Carcassonne is an eternal source for learning so I think you'd be right on that one. I won't be able to teach everything since I still have a lot to learn myself as well and time is obviously going to be a big factor when making videos like this. I'll be doing my best though!

Great to see more high level Carcassonne content in English!
I've never seen the first three tiles be the same and instantly exhaust one type of tile! (Maybe I've not played enough Carcassonne!)
I was surprised by some of the play around the contested city, but in particular I had a question about the move at 8:47. If we are placing a CCCF next to the contested city with the hope of claiming later and forcing the CCCC hole (as you did), would it not be better to attack from the other side and so give yourself more points when claiming the city by absorbing the already placed CCCR tiles? I think it is more likely to be a ruin that is owned by you, and I don't think there is much risk of yellow claiming this ruin even if you leave it meepleless on this turn.
In the end it all worked out fine, but it would have been interesting to discuss the merits of both moves.

Great question indeed! The primary reason for placing the CCCF like I did was to deny my opponent getting any easy semi-saves with regular road tiles. The move played in the game is more likely to force my opponent to restrict his city to CCCR or CCCF as soon as possible since, like I said before, it is less likely for him to get a chance to make a semi-save and keep all triple city tiles live for the city completion.
Furthermore, I would not meeple the city piece even if I placed it on the other side as you suggested. None of my meeples that I have on the board at this given moment are too easy get back. Investing another meeple to a 4-point ruin with the original purpose of the move (restricting yellow's castle) not being guaranteed does not feel something I'd be too comfortable with. At the same time, a 4-point ruin with lots of growth potential is also not something I would be willing to just hand out to my opponent.

Cool, another high level carcassonne streamer, I like it a lot!! Not sure about not meepling the castle at 5:30. What if your opponent claimed it next move, and you get e.g. one of the 4 CCCF's? Ruin your opponent's city? Or the other way around: If your opponent gets one of those, he will be +/- forced to add a point to one of your cities.

Great question! I did not actually think about this possibility at all during the game. Now that you mentioned it, I very rarely focus on possible tile discards or forced tiles in general. Although in this particular situation I still wouldn't meeple the 3-point ruin. If my opponent gets a shielded CCCF, they are better off by adding it to their own castle instead. If it is without a shield or get the CCCC, it's totally justifiable to use it to the southern 1-point city cap to make the finishing of said castle a bit harder or to just prolong the completion and create attacking spots to be used later on. There are still plenty of things I can improve on in my plays and this certainly falls on to that category.

Great content Nallerheim. Thanks for making these videos!
Looking forward to more of this type of content.

At 7:22, I would have probably preferred the triple city tile placed at top right to protect the top city rather than dumping it on your castle. Not sure why Melvin didn’t do it and you have indeed immediately taken advantage of that by placing the curved road there

I actually like your move a lot! Even though it creates a small chance of me getting, for example, two triple cities in a row and blocking Melvin's castle on the square he specifically tried to protect, the chances of me following through with the said plan are abysmal since I would be basically helping him start a lucrative ruin. Great idea! Might even be the best move available that we both missed

@@nallerheim it would be a waste of your resources and time to attempt a convoluted block sequence at that early-ish stage of the game anyway, I suppose. Anyway, you are the >800 elo chap here, so I won’t speculate too much on the merits of my suggestion. Thanks for your reply.
