    I just found this video of yours, thank you. There are a few publishers I hadn't heard of before but the real question I have for you is "How do you create time to do all your reading" Do you have a black hole you jump into to read so when you come out, no time has passed? Have you done a video on how you schedule your reading and are you a fast reader? Maybe do a video on Puritans as well. Blessings.

    Hey Pastor Ross- just watched this video again after several years (I was memorizing Romans 9 and was pondering the Supra vs Infralapsarian positions when I tuned in to your video). Really learned so much more ( ie realized the extent of my ignorance). Ha ha- I purchased both the Venema and Boettner books 3 years ago - they are on my TBR along with many other books (I'm just a layperson) hopefully one of my sons will be interested one day and my library will not be wasted. I see you moved somewhat closer to my location. I'm a member of 4th Pres in Bethesda, MD. God bless you and your family.

    Glad I found your channel. A man after my own nerd of the word heart. one or two for consideration might be Witsius Economy of the covenants, and Cunninghams Historical Theology, which is currently dumbfounding me in regards to how unknown an English speaking theologian of this prowess could be. I know they might qualify in different modern categories, but they are definitely both systematic theologies in the classical sense. Thanks for your work, may God continue to bear fruit in you. Can someone enlighten me on the value of reading Maximus the Confessor? He already seems rather Eastern. I’ve been trying to start reading the church fathers and I’ve not yet decided if I should add Maximus the Confessor to my already-long list of to-reads

    • @thenerdypastor2778
      @thenerdypastor2778 หลายเดือนก่อน

      His value is especially seen in 7th century controversies about the nature of Christ, which is why he received the title "The Confessor" because of his orthodox witness. His teaching is also very important to help us further understand God's Incarnation in Christ and humanity made in the Imago Dei. He is also certainly more Eastern in his theology, but the West can benefit. However, he does hold to a form of Universal Redemption, which should be avoided and resisted. He continues Origin's heresy there. Hope this helps, brother.

I am utterly fascinated by his work and am taking so many notes no wonder Johnathan Edward’s said such good things about this work. I can’t wait for the rest of the volumes to come out.

    Hi, Thank you for taking time out to produce such excellent videos... Clearly, you've read a lot! Just one question - could you either make a video showing the difference between the font size of the text in Systematic Theology by Robert Culver and A Body of Divinity by Thomas Watson. All I'd like to know is if the print size used in Culver's Systematic Theology is as small as those in Watson's Body of Divinity or is it smaller print or larger.. I find it a little difficult to read very small print for a long time, hence this query.. I'm considering purchasing RC's Systematic Theology, but would like your input on this with regards to the printed text. Thank you again for all your time and efforts.... You're being watched! Keep up the good work and God bless.

      Thanks for the comment and feedback, Thomas, and for your encouragement! And as for comparing the font sizes between Culver's ST and Watson's BoD, I checked, and Culver's looks to be ~9 point font, while Watson's looks like the traditional 12-point font.

      @@thenerdypastor2778 Thanks for responding... I have a copy of the "Banner of Truth' edition of Thomas Watson's Body of Divinity.. It does not look like it's a 12 point font... Would you be able to point me in the direction of where I can find scripture that clearly shows when the requirement to practice the sabbath changed to Sunday vs. Saturday?

    • @thenerdypastor2778
      @thenerdypastor2778 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Scripture that points to this shift of worship from Saturday to Sunday would be Matt. 28:1; Mk. 16:1-2; Lk. 24:1; Jn. 20:1 and Rev. 1:10, all following the resurrection of Christ. The Sabbath, while still in force morally for the practice of a believer (as to keeping it holy as a day of worship and rest), also contained a "shadowy element" in the OT Covenant (what's called "ceremonial law"). Thus, the Sabbath had a typological character to it that was fulfilled through the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Thus, Christ's resurrection both reinforces God's 10 Commandments (here, the 4th Commandment, which is a celebration of worship and rest from creation) and establishes an anticipation of the final arrival of the New Heavens and New Earth (for Sunday is a now a preview of an eternal Sunday, an everlasting Sabbath). Therefore, the resurrection advances the Day of Worship from Sabbath Saturday (the 7th Day of the week) to the Lord's Day Sunday (1st Day of the week). So, while the passages above make it clear that Sabbath Saturday has advanced to Sunday Lord's Day (the day of worship), it's a reflection of what Christ has done - His resurrection has "shifted" everything forward.

    I just read a Lloyd-Jones sermon in Ephesians that said this quote below. The whole sermon changed my mind about Christian "defeatism": "I sin because I'm weak and can't do anything about it". That type of thing. Always praying for help. While God does help us, He has given us this power has He not? He has not left us orphans: "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." - Jn 14:18. I mean the whole sermon of his took down that feeling. I left it going wow! While I don't believe in perfectionism it has given me a feeling of God didn't just save me and walk away and leave me to myself. It is a warfare. It is a battle. But He has given us what we need. How often is warfare preached / taught on? Not much maybe. Prayer is good. But there is also a battle to go to. “...We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” - Ac 14:22. Lloyd-Jones: “Surely we must recognise that this ‘Let go and let God’ teaching is quite unscriptural. If it were true, this whole section of the Epistle to the Ephesians, from verse 17 of the fourth chapter to the end of the Epistle, should never have been written at all. The Apostle should not have written these words, and he should not have gone on to say, Therefore, put away lying; speak truth every man with his neighbour; be ye angry and sin not; neither give place to the devil; let him that stole, steal no more. He would not have said these things; it would have been wrong for him to say them. Instead, he would have said, If any of you believers are tempted to steal, pray about it; let go, and ask the Lord to deliver you from it! But he says nothing of the kind. Instead he says, Those of you who have been given to stealing, stop doing it, steal no more, put off the old man! Thus it is obvious that the teaching which may sound very spiritual can be utterly unscriptural. It not only by-passes the Scripture, it denies the Scripture. ” Excerpt From Darkness and Light: An Exposition of Ephesians 4:17-5:17 D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

    Thank you for your videos. I've been watching a few now and have a renewed interest in taking up my Shedd systematic again. I was reading his chapter on Bibliology and had to underline (in Logos) this part near the beginning: "In this sense, all that man knows intuitively is revealed to him; for even his axiomatic knowledge does not originate from himself independently and apart from his Creator. All that he knows in this manner, he knows through his intellect, and this intellect is the workmanship of God. Man cognizes in accordance with the laws of human intelligence, and these laws are established by his maker." So would this cover everything? Math, science, chemistry, biology? If there is truth (as per Augustine I guess) then it's GOD's truth. Whatever truth it is. Not man's. 2+2=4 is a fact that both Christians and non-Christians can talk about because it's universally God's truth, albeit general revelation. What are your thoughts on the Shedd quote?

      Shedd is right! All truth is God's truth, from natural revelation to supernatural revelation. All that we hear has been heard. All that we know has been told. All that we have has been received.

      @@thenerdypastor2778 Thanks for your reply! Any interest in a future video on the history and maybe current happening within liberal theology? That's been an interest for me for a couple years now, although I haven't really delved deep into it. I know a good attack against it was from Machen with his book, but what is going on currently? What is the current battle? Or do you figure that line has almost died by now? A very interesting parallel line.

    Uncle Bob Letham was my System Theology lecturer for my graduate diploma. It is good but I still prefer Grudem.

      Letham's is so good, I think Grudem 2nd edition is much improved on his first, but still doesn't hold a candle to the Top 10.

      Hi Jordan, thanks for the comment/request. Yes, I have that book but have not read it. Hopefully I can present a review at some point.
