FLAX SPROUT EXPERIMENT
Flax often gets a bad rap and is considered to be a 'difficult' seed. In my opinion, it's not that it's 'difficult', it's mostly misunderstood, because being a mucilaginous seed (goes gluey when wet), it does not do well in jars, which is our most common way of sprouting seeds.
I love growing flax as sprouts on the GEO terracotta trays, but I realise that depending on where you live, these trays may not be easily accessible to everyone.
For this reason I wanted to find an alternative way to grow flax as sprouts (not microgreens) and here in this video I'll show you the results.

HOW TO GROW LEAFY MUNG ON HYDROPONIC TRAYS

Mung beans are so incredibly versatile.... You can sprout them into big, fat, juicy sprouts, or blend them and use the batter to make tortilla/wrap/pancakes, or you can grow them to their leafy stage, which is what I'm going to show you here. The stems of leafy mung can become a little stringy, but I grow them mainly for their leaves, as I love them in salads. I usually use the upper part of th...

Hi! So glad I found your channel as I fell in love with the terra cotta sprouter & it's on the way! :) I'm curious though, how do you feel about using organic hydroponic supplements to make up for what soil may provide that water & the seed do not contain?

You obviously didn’t read the first screen which says: “SOAK 1/2 CUP OF HARD WHEAT BERRIES OVERNIGHT. THEN RINSE & DRAIN WELL. SPROUT FOR 1-2 DAYS, THEN SPREAD OUT ONTO A TRAY. COVER WITH ANOTHER TRAY AND SPRAY EACH DAY.” So yes, day 2 and 3 on the tray, are exactly that. I have no need nor desire to share something that is ‘not true’.

Love your videos! I just purchased a set of these trays. There is only about 1/4" space between the bottom of the tray and the bin it sits in. Shouldn't there be more room for the sprouts to grow their tails? How deep are your's if you don't mind me asking?

The trays I have don't have a lot of space between the bottom of the white one with holes in and the bottom green tray in which you place the water. That's okay, the roots will grow their roots and create a mattress in that tray below.

My lentil microgreens are turning brown at the ends instead of turning green when I put them to the light. I am doing everything step by step. They sprouted fine and formed a good root system. After that, I open them to the natural light and start putting water on the bottom. Instead of turning green, they look almost burned. I wasted 3 trays of microgreens already. I am not sure why? @@petermaier3725 hi Peter, I think a one-liter jar is the one I use the most. You can get a really good pile of sprouts from one! I use mason jars (‘Quattro Stagioni’) with sprouting lids I’ve accumulated over time. You can really use any jar, but if you buy one which already has a nice stainless steel mesh lid, that’s probably the best thing. Gelatinous/mucilaginous seeds such as some mustard, arugula/rocket, cress, flax, chia, basil do not sprout well in jars as they have a hard time draining due to their gluey consistency. To grow these seeds in a jar it is best to add a small amount to a non-gelatinous seed, such as clover.
