I own one of these & just parked it today with 627 miles on it so the first part of the break-in period is done with the 600 miles & the second part (higher rpm's) will be done at 1,000 miles & then its good to go - this bike is really something as an old man (76) & of small build I downsized from an FJR (640 lbs down to 492) as the FJR was just becoming too big & too heavy for me & this bike is just what the doctor ordered - I ride with both headlights on (high) & have yet to have anyone blink at me - I also have 2 Clearwater (Darla) Lights (yellow lenses) up front - the only problem I'm having is I can't seem to get the GPS up & running as when I pair it up to the app the dash says - "follow the directions on the app" but nothing comes up on my i-phone - its just a dark page but the dash says we're connected - any suggestions ??
That’s fantastic Stephen! Happy you love the Tracer. That’s been one of the only issues we’ve had with it- trying to pair a phone to it and get the GPS synched. We never successfully paired our phones with it either. Definitely a way to get it working, we just never really made it a priority to find out. I’m guessing someone on YT here might have a decent tutorial on it?
The top lights are not running lights. They're called cornering lights. The white LED snakes under the cornering lights are positioning or running lights. The single low beam off-center is a feature unfortunately found on many bikes these days. I keep hoping it will disappear. I think Ducati started it about twenty years ago. Curse them.
I think it's a safety issue. I'm sure I read somewhere that when dual headlights (or fog) lights are on together, the bike may appear as a car in the distance with its headlights on. The unusual lighting configuration makes the bikes more distinguishable to other traffic.
No. There are plenty of bikes that have dual headlights and dual fog lights as a factory option. My own 2019 Versys 1000 for example. Yamaha's own Tenere 1200. Many others. It has nothing to do with safety. @@pnmarquet
I agree - curse them is correct - but I ride with both lights on (high) & have yet to have anyone blink at me - just angle them down ever so slightly if need be.
2 negative words; chain drive! Who wants to mess with adjusting an oily chain in a hotel parking lot on a long trip?? Come on Yamaha! Get a shaft drive for this thing already! Jeez!
@@jamestorregrossa1185 I guess if you consider that fluff, sure. We found it a great feature for road tripping, trying to put down long miles in a day.
@@misterboodarie we received absolutely zero compensation, endorsement or reward for this. They simply loaned us the bike for what ended up being just shy of 11 months, so we rode the $h!+ out of it for thousands of miles, on multiple road trips. We found the bike to be that good.
The worst feature, and NOT impressed in the least with it is the headlight...... Forty-six years I've been riding, without an accident, and I've found that to be noticed and keep motorists from pulling out in front of me, they've got to see me coming. That tiny little headlight will get someone killed, guarantee.
On the lights, the bottom lights are actually the headlights. The top lights are the running lights and that is where the cornering lights come from.
Thanks, it really is a great feature.
Good quick overall review. I have a 19, still haven’t mastered the menu!
@@stephenharriau1406 they seem to have simplified the dash and menu considerably from your model to this one. We found it pretty easy to navigate.

Hopefully my next bike. All the tech and other necessities at $10K less than certain cruisers.

Must be cost, I’m sure it’s cheaper to have each light do a single job.

How were you handling the chain maintenance while you were logging the miles?
I checked the chain tension after each road trip, and it stayed in spec. I also cleaned/lubed it after 2000 miles.
how tall are you or what's your inseam? Thanks

Many sport touring bikes currently on the market are chain drive.
Great motorbike however, I would rather pay 2K less and get rid of the fluff, i.e. adaptive, cruise control

It is, admittedly, a somewhat noisy triple.
Too bad it’s ugly, I’d consider it otherwise.
It’s polarizing, for sure. Two of our guys love how it looks, a couple do not. Yet we all agreed, we’d ride it across America, it’s so good.
