Installing Holley Sniper Fuel Injection on my Supercharged Morris Minor Van
มุมมอง 182หลายเดือนก่อน
Over the years my van has evolved. Starting out with the stock single SU carburetor and cast iron exhaust manifold, I swapped for a dual SU system similar to an Austin Healey Sprite. At the same time I added long center branch headers. Later I obtained a Judson Supercharger setup and installed it the results of which are documented in another video in my playlist. The Achilles heel of the Judso...

1970 Triumph TR6 - Bringing the air conditioning back to life
มุมมอง 1446 หลายเดือนก่อน
I bought this 1970 Triumph TR6 a couple of years ago from a family in Miami. The actual owner and caretaker of the car had passed away so there's not a lot of history available on the car, but it has a unique appearance and I soon learned after some fettling that it runs and drives well. The main thing that sets this car apart from other triumphs is that it is equipped with air conditioning. AC...
Triumph TR6 Fix a "cranky" clutch with alignment dowels
มุมมอง 4496 หลายเดือนก่อน
I currently have two TR6s, a red 1970 and a green 1972. The red one had begun exhibiting bad behavior of the clutch pedal. The clutch would come close to engagement but not quite and then it would all of a sudden decide to engage. It was pretty obvious that it was something involving the throw out bearing and release mechanism but I was not quite sure what was going on. I reached out to the Rus...
Morris Minor Van with Judson Supercharger. Status update
มุมมอง 68211 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's been years since I bought this supercharger from a guy on the Internet. I've put it on, taken it off so many times I can switch betwee supercharger and carbs in about 20 minutes. Something always seems to go wrong, but his time I think i finally have it right. It's very rewarding .
Morris Minor Supercharger Success!
มุมมอง 470ปีที่แล้ว
Come on a test drive with me after my latest attempt to make my Judson supercharger work on my 1969 Morris Minor LCV (van). The engine is a standard 1098cc A-series but I have long center branch headers and electronic multi-spark ignition. The supercharger came with a Holley 1904 one-barrel carb that I never could get to work right. I opted to try a cheap Asian knock-off replacement I found on ...
Hercules unchained - Abandoned Diesel Generator Starts and Runs After 20+ Years Sleeping

This government surplus Hercules diesel generator was installed many years ago on the farm my sister bought recently. We could get it to crank and it would run briefly on starting fluid, so it was mechanically sound. we managed to get fresh fuel to the Roosa Master fuel distributor, but nothing came out. Not knowing anything about these devices, I was reluctant to remove and diagnose it, but fi...

Thanks for posting. I hope we see more Land Rover videos.
Nice Job. I am doing the same on my 1970 Land Rover.
I love the sh*t out of these little jewels. I wish someone would somehow get a hold of the tooling and start making them. I want to build a motorcycle around one.
I bet you found it was the rods at the front of transfer case jammed with rust! 👍🏽
The problem was an extra lever that some previous repairer had left inside the box by mistake. It jammed up the works. Thanks for watching.
I see you got it started! 👍🏻
Oh yeah!
You didn't say what kind of 'electronic pump'? Was it one of those cube-shaped pumps, or was it a proper Facet Sliver Top Electric Pump? I've never had any issues like that with my Facet Silver Tops!
You are correct, it is one of the cube shaped units. I don't recall offhand who the manufacturer is. I have recently been introduced to Hardi electric fuel pumps made in Germany which are quite pricey but well reviewed in British car forums. It's possible another manufacturers pump might have not allowed fuel to siphon, but for now my solution seems to be working quite well.
if you have a mechanical fuel pump, in the usual place on the side of the engine, and ethanol eats through the diaphragm, that will allow fuel to pass into the crankcase!
Vans are very sought after in the uk, proper job done to rear axle and brakes.
Thanks. Mine constantly amazes me. It's very peppy with the Judson supercharger installed. Fuel injection is next but there have been some hurdles moving in that direction.
I’m glad you were able to fix the problem! It’s amazing what a couple of small dowel pins can do. Cheers, Tush
I can't see how a minor rotation around the central bushing axis would make any difference to the clutch throw? Is that explained in the group somewhere? The top two bolts on the backplate of mine stay in the backplate working as alignment dowels.
I Don't think it's rotation so much as the transmission hanging off of the bolts. You could probably accomplish the same thing by just very carefully jacking the transmission up slightly as you tighten the bellhousing to backing plate bolts, but the dowels make it a pretty precise fit. All I can tell you is that it made a marvelous difference in the way my clutch operates.
@@GrandadFixit i see, thanks for the extra info! I'm having some issues here after rebuilding the master then replacing the slave, release bearing, fork, fork pin and bushings! I'm going to weld and re-drill the pedal pivot hole next which is sloppy so this extra info is helpful if that doesn't solve it.
Thanks for watching
I worked for a Rover/Triumph dealer in UK for ten years. I seem to remember that the big Triumphs had two 3/8 unf special BOLTS that act as dowels. The dowels you show are for block to backplate. They will do the job of aligning the gearbox to engine.
I took mine to a radiator shop and they put it in a hot tank for a week. That did nothing! I used a pressure washer, then put gravel in it and shook it until my arms were noodles. I am also told easy off oven cleaner could work cleaning out the pealing sealer on the inside. I didn’t do that.
Thanks for sharing
They make a tool for the drain plugs. I made one from a rail road spike and a bench grinder.
Just did this on my 66, S2A 88” Cleaning out the tank was difficult as it had an old sealer that was pealing. Sending unit was frozen. I opened it up and got it working.
Blather the new one in oil and grease, i am lucky mine has been replaced and the chassis is galvanized. Land Rovers love grease and oil.
Good morning. I have a twin to your Morris van and live in Norfolk. Please send your contact info to Bob at Abacus Racing and ask him to forward it to me. Love your vids! dw
Thanks Don. You can reach me at admin@firstlandingautocare.com
Great video.I've learned a lot from it.I own a Morris Traveller 1967, but I'm looking to purchase a van in the near future, so your video will probably be most helpful in due course. Thanks for a great video, & I love the look of your van. Paul Lucas.
Thanks a lot for watching. Makes my effort worthwhile.
you should have serviced the whole transmission
And the transmission in the other series two. Oh yeah my Austin has a tooth missing on first gear. And my Morris Minor transmission whines in all but top gear. And second gear synchro is sluggish in my green TR6. and the red TR6 needs u-joints. This LR is a farm utility vehicle. Who's got time?
What are the changes you made at the reg box please?
I removed it. The output of the alternator just goes directly to the battery .
@@GrandadFixit Ah.. rather than use the reg box as a joint box .. I see..
What made the transfer case start working in 2wd again?
Somewhere in my video playlist it shows that when we pulled the pan off of the bottom of the transfer case a piece of linkage fell out that was not even supposed to be in the transfer case. It was the two-wheel drive lockout lever and pin that apparently had been removed in a previous disassembly and thrown in there, I guess just as a place to keep it. We speculate that it was jamming up the two / four-wheel drive dog and keeping it from disengaging. It's a wonder it didn't destroy the transfer case but I guess it got stuck out of harm's way in the box somehow. I know it doesn't make much sense, but you have to keep in mind that this was a used transmission and transfer case that I acquired from a local Land Rover fanatic years ago.
@@GrandadFixit thanks for getting back to me. Yours was the only video I could find on removing the transfer case in situ as I could not engage 2wd. I nearly did it but have such a good seal on the transfer case sump, didn’t want to break it. In the end I swapped the selector for one from a series 3 for my series 2a and it worked. No idea why, couldn’t find a spare lockout lever like you did. Perhaps spring tension changed but now have 2wd. Keep up the great work, loved you video. I couldn’t touch my phone, EP90 oil was everywhere. 😉
Best of luck and I am interested in your content. Came here from your comment on this video "1963 Triumph TR4: Will it RUN and DRIVE after Sitting 10 Years? (Part 1 - Thanksgiving Special)". Keep up the nice work.
Thanks for looking at my content. Hope it's entertaining or useful or both.
Very cool! Many don't realize how many versions of Hemi engines there have been Toyota even made a V8 Hemi in the 60's.
I did not know that. Cool engine. Wish I could find one.

@@GrandadFixit I paid $50 for the whole car
that's really cool man! what's that engine out of?
Daimler is Mercedes so that would probably be my first guess
It’s out of a mid 60s Daimler sedan. British as it gets.
@@blaismerchant8582the British Daimler company had no connection to Mercedes. They were owned by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) when Jaguar bought them.
@@jimmyj2563the sedan was a Jaguar MK2 that was re-trimmed and re-engined.
What is it out of?
Jaguar bought Daimler in the 60s and put this engine in the Jag Mk2 body rebadged as the Daimler V8-250.

Been a long wait...
Are there any parts available or do you have to have everything custom made. Everything will have to be forged internals for durability and longevity. It should easily put out with fuel injection and proper intake bout 275hp with bout 265ftlbs of torque
Parts are readily available.
These were designed by Triumph engineer, Turner. There is a bigger version at 4.0 litre extremely rare. I have one of the 2.5 litre ones.. check out the main caps for cracks. Known issue. If you google “glacier grenade.” you will find its a European top fuel car with a supercharged Daimler hemi.. pretty amazing power output.
What kind of car was that engine originally fitted to?
Daimler
Back in the 60s Jaguar bought the rights to the Daimler brand and this engine from Birmingham Small Arms. They put it in their Jag Mk2 body. Daimler also used this engine in their Dart/SP 250 sports car. Jay Leno has a nice one.
2.5 ltr is 153 cubic inch 8 cyl - maybe 90 hp on leaded gas -
I bet if you strengthened the internals and engineered a cam and crank for it, heads etc... I'd imagine it could Rev pretty damn high, give er the k series treatment.
145 hp actually on leaded petrol
This would make a good gasser engine 😃
Run it on e85, long tube headers, fat cam, forged internals, easy 350hp
There is a community of racers who run this in the Daimler SP250 sports car
That’s a familiar Judson! Interestingly enough, we now have a Morris van and truck… We were talking about how fun it would be to turbo or supercharge one . Suddenly, the memory of a MG Metro turbo sitting in deep stock came up. Then this video! Oh dear.
Go for it! Sounds like a fun project.
What a great job that you have done with the Morris 1000 Van. I wish I still had mine.
Thanks!
Sounds nice and smooth, lot of fun there!
It is fun. Thanks for watching.
Following with interest - I have a similar Judson kit coming for my 67 Morris Traveller, so I am pleased to see you are now having success - Good job done Grandad!
Great! Let me know if I can help you learn from my mistakes (ongoing).
What jet sizes are you running on the Holley? I tried a a Solex 32 downdraft which has so many jets it is difficult to fine tune, I may have to go back to the Holley….
Did you get the Judson and carb working ok in the end?
Seems to be working pretty reliably now.
By any chance do you know the timing to this engine? Or where I could find the marks I would appreciate it
Wish I could help, but I never had to get that deep into the operation of the unit. A quick search came up with this: www.foleyengines.com/shop/manuals/hercules-d1700-d2000-d2300-d3000-d3400-manual/
I just want to applaud you guys and wish you lived near me in Cocoa Beach Florida. I'm a 71 year old retired high school teacher but as a young girl loved driving my dad's old army jeep. Fast forward, I thought buying a 1980 Series 3 land rover 88 would be fun just to drive around the beach area. I was "taken" by a guy who sold it to me from Spain so it is a Land Rover by with some Santana modifications when Land Rover pulled out of Spain. Anyway, I can not turn corners at all and my husband can barely turn it and of course there is a lot of play in steering wheel. My rover is in better shape compared to the one in your video. I so appreciate your video and hope you will download more videos as you work on this car to help us. Again, I loved the video and applaud all the hard work.
If you have heavy or non-existent steering I would look at the steering relay first. Find a capable mechanic and invest in your car. They are only increasing in value.
you never knew anything about motors. At least 50 years ago you only thought you did. Have you checked voltage and frequency? At least the motor runs.. and that is a plus....A+ for trying. Have fun bro!
This old diesel still holds some mysteries but now it runs and will provide auxiliary power for the farmhouse if the need arises. Thanks for watching.

Probably true...
What is the cost for a 2010 escape hybrid? Thx
I wish I had an answer, but we have never seen a "bad" Escape battery. What can happen is that they become discharged when left sitting over a long period of time and will no longer start the engine. Prior to 2008 the batteries had built in emergency chargers that would bring the battery back to life, but they eliminated this from later model cars. I don't know if it was a cost-saving measure or they felt nobody was using it. We have the capability to remove the battery from the car and apply a charge to restore proper operation. We have done this successfully to dozens of cars at a cost of about $400. It requires a special high voltage charger. Tell me what your car is doing and I will try and point you in the right direction.
This video teaches you nothing
