Minolta Maxxum 5 - The Featherweight
มุมมอง 2.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The Minolta Maxxum 5 was released in 2001 for a retail price of $399. Today, it can be found on eBay for around $30-40 in good condition. It’s not the cheapest Minolta you can get, but considering that it is a baby Maxxum 7, this camera is a great bargain. I don’t know if people just don’t like the plasticky feel, but it makes it very lightweight, and thus a comfortable everyday-carry camera. A...
Minolta XTsi - An Underrated Film Camera
มุมมอง 3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
The Minolta XTsi was released in 1998 for a retail price of $879 with the kit lens. Today, it can be found on eBay for around $20-25 in good condition. Personally, I’m okay with this as it means that I can easily pick up a replacement if need be, and not have to sell an organ. Another thing keeping the prices down is the fact that this is a non-glamorous, Prosumer SLR. These aren’t what people ...
Yashica 200-AF | Yashica's First AF SLR (pt. 1)

In this video I'll be talking about Yashica's first SLR, the Yashica 200-AF. I'll go over some of its functions, as well as its operation, and a little bit of the of history behind this forgotten SLR system. Fuji X-T30 + 35mm f/1.4 = Good Video? (Part 3)

Why Did I Buy The Fuji X-Pro1 In 2019?

In this video, we'll talk about 5 reason whhy I bought the Fufijilm X-Pro1 in 2019. I bought this camera on Facebook for $300 USD, but can be found on eBay and other sites for around the same price. I do not recommend buying new as they go for over a $1,000 USD, and at that point you could get an X-Pro2 instead. I think you touched on having run long on this video at around 15 minutes (thereby intimating that therefore you would NOT be making extra videos part 2 & part 3, is that right)? Anyway, Im forgetting these videos can be a decade or so old, this was years ago if youre talking about COVID lock down, so I'll have to look farther to see what you did on the end. 🤭 Their body design was new and exciting and the tech such as AF and compact attached ergonomic flash on top of the AF230 was new and seemingly groundbreaking.
What a shame tgis was there hayday and they declined after that it would seem. The AF 230 was shown in a lustrous full colour brochure with emblazened diagonally accross the front cover and man it looks so sexy with is still early Auto Focus autofocus light that you didn't mention nor piont too as cisible on the front top edge and that exciting built-on attachment to the hot shoe, demonstrating convenience in it compactness for a little light for close ups and fill-in, but also without hindering expansion of thr camera to bigger and better lighting if so inclined. The ability to use 3 or 4 tripple A batteries at that time would have been another bonus as the specialised ergonomic battery pack another commenter mentoned the code number of cost about $15 each in some countries, a real money making cash grab, disgusting! They didn't even last long! Those 3 AAA probably lasted far longer with intermittent usebthan the dedicated battery! Eventually the price of thise batteries came right down to 1/9th of the price if you shopped from these postal stores that were also accessible on the worldwide web (I'll tell you what that was, later)! Much much later on I bought a Canon EOS system and the extended battery pack for double AA batt's. Neat took about 6 or 8. Looked great too as it fit flush with the camera body underneath naking it look like a motor-drive and it had an extra shutter release button on the corner of thr battery pack for vertical release! How cool is that! I love it when somethong os well thought out and theyve gone for quality over basics and kept the price down. Now days its all greed, greed, greed, and must have and that pushes the prices up. People have to learn the real cost of making things, the true value of things and start declining what they then know is a rip-of charge! Exercising some self-control. The Yashica AF 239 had a really sexy brochure and the images made tou want one all the more. It was tantilizing! I wanted one, and I wondered if it would be one Id aim for over others and in that narrow window of opportunity for Yashica - I would have bought one if I had that kind of disposable income or a rich daddy. I never got one and very soon after a year or two of drooling over the brochure (no, not litterally) it seems surpassed by how fast the tech was growing, Canon had their AE1 Program and various others and before long came Minolta with those AF 7000 and 9000 the big brother which probably had a faster shutter speed, that's where the competion was at that period, and just prior too such as with the Pentax SP500 moving up to the SP 1000 (prior to this period, as I just wrote) but also carrying forward into the AF period too. I've forgotten what the benefit was of the 9000 over the 7000, again - a very 'sexy' tantilzing camera, a must have. Sorry! I have a tendenct to wax lyricsl about exciting things.
Just bought one for a friend then found my mom’s old camera in storage! Pretty baller specs & works with my Godox fuji kit via remote cable (custom mode 12-2 to turn off the preflash)
That’s good to know! Thanks for sharing.
I have the 230 AF. Would you have any idea why a camera would stop working? It has a new battery which tested fine.
Unfortunately, I have no experience with the Yashica 230 AF. I would clean battery compartment and try again. Often times, the capacitors on these cameras will begin to fail, and only experienced technicians would be able to fix it. But given the cost of the repairs, I would just pick another one up for a decent price. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance to you.
@@GinoriYT Thank you!
Is there still a film in it that you've forgotten about, one that is fully exposed and not rewound? Check the film canister view window on the back left. If there is don't forget to rewind before opening the back and if the display isn't showing anything at all, not even a roll of film indicator then try another set of fresh batteries and check you've changed the specified number of batteries required as per the manual. Ask around how many does it take!
@@r.martin3494 It did. I ended up going to a photo shop, they removed it ,but said it would take a couple hundred dollars to fix.
Thank you for your great view
Glad I could help!

The moment I go to Video it’s my Vintage Manual Focus Rollei-Zeiss Lenses with an Adapter. I wish they could have performed well with Video.
Called the Dynax 505si Super in Europe. Feature packed, small and light, cheap as chips because the silver colour dates most consumer electronic to the late 90's. Plus finding matching silver lenses is tough because the choice is far more limited than black. Mix and match and dont care about the looks though and you are good to go.
How you colour grade this? Please save me:))😊
Hey, Marius! I used the Mastin Labs Adventure Everyday LUTs. Specifically, the Ektar 100. I then brought it down to about 40%. Hope this helps 🙌🏽
Is there no part 2 or 3?? I was wondering how to connect a flash. I just found one of these cameras in a closet at my moms and she has a flash but I’m not sure how to make it go off
The first AF SLR camera was the Yashica 230AF. Only then did the Yashica 200AF come along as an entry-level camera. The 200AF has no built-in flash, no TTL flash metering, fewer viewfinder displays and is missing a few other features. The camera can be powered by a 2CR5 battery or AAA batteries. However, an adapter is necessary for this. The adapter is removable. Later there was the Yashica 270AF and the Yashica 300AF. In some countries the Yashica 270AF was also called the Yashica 230 Super. There was also a Kyocera 210AF.
is it not bad to just have the camera lying around without a lens or sensor cover?
For photos witch is better?
Both cameras are great for photography, but I personally prefer the colors that come out of the X-Pro1. That being said, the X-T1 focuses more accurately and feels more responsive. Also, the X-T1 has the Classic Chrome film simulation, whereas the X-Pro1 only has the original 5 film simulations. In the end, both are great for photos. It is up to you to decide which features you value the most. Hope this helps!
@@GinoriYT thanks so much
Can't bear me, I bought my gx8 in 2023 as my second camera.
Still a great camera to this day. It’s a shame that Panasonic hasn’t given us an update to this body.
Let me get this out of the way: the volume is WAAAY low. Now.... I LOVE that you have strong opinions and lots of 'em! We don't have to agree at all; I just love that you wear it all on your sleeve, and that alone got you a thumbs-up and a sub!
Audio is something I’ve struggled with in the past, but it’s all been sorted out! Thanks for watching and subscribing, it’s much appreciated.
@@GinoriYT I'm watching on my phone, (S20) and the volume is good, the clarity is really nice, and the tinkly background music is great because it's not distracting, not interfering with what you are saying. It could be marginally louder in fact as I found myself wondering where the errant music was coming from and started turning my head to find out.
lens?
The entire video was shot on the Lumix S 24mm f/1.8
Correction: It takes 4 AAA batteries - there's a little magazine inside the battery array that pops out and exposes a 4th battery.
Der Adapter muss herausgenommen werden um die 4 Batterie einzusetzen.
@@MartinH1970 I think you're repeating what this commenter wrote, nine?
Hey! 'Stinky Winky' - I think the commenter who wrote in German just repeated part of what you wrote, am I right? The translation may have lost an important nuisance for him.

Dudeeeee….don’t scratch those beauties! Use a soft surface, not on brick!
Very professional results! Something about Minolta.
Thx, though your cursor when pointing never correlates to the conversation which gets very confusing. Yes, the fuji at 35mm will be a tad larger, so it's understood it's on the right, and you do in fact say that. But the conversation when making points leaves the viewer wondering what you're talking about. Anyway, thanks for comparing. Both are good lenses, but I'm going to side with the Zeiss. Obtaining deeper blacks is easy, and I like the slight 0 2 f advantage and coloration of the Zeiss. Yes, the Fuji is a tad sharper at the edges. Barely. Cheers!
He's comparing different magnifications, which skews the results. Either the Fuji should be shrunk to match the Zeiss, or the Zeiss should be enlarged to match the Fuji.
@@darylnd Agreed.
Someone gave me this camera recently and I don't know how to use it... Do you have any tutorials for this camera?
Hey there! I’ve sold the camera already, unfortunately. I’m not sure there are a lot of videos out there on this camera in particular, but I can say that it’s not a complicated camera to use. I learned all the features by reading the manual, which has been digitized and published online. Hope this helps.

Hi! How’d you get Like2100 for video on the S5? It doesn’t appear on mine 😞
Hi there! It will appear on your color profiles as HLG. Make sure you’re shooting in .MOV and not .MP4 and you should see it pop up.
@@GinoriYT that worked, thank you!
what is camera mount ?
It’s called Yashica AF Mount.
My friends parents just got one for me as a gift hopefully it only needs battery’s so I can get some shots in soon
That's awesome! If it's in full working condition, I suggest picking up some rechargeable CR2s as they can get quite expensive over time. Happy shooting!
very nice images!
Thank you, Jos!
They cost more than twice that now.
Yeah, all camera prices went up during the pandemic, and they haven’t gone down again. Honestly, you can get the 2s which have better features, and give you the same shooting experience at a similar price, so it’s a tougher sell now. The fun in using cheaper cameras is a thing of the past now.
Awesome. This fits my needs
should i sell my xt30 for a xpro2?
They’re both great cameras, but I think that it all boils down to your personal preference. The X-Pro2 doesn’t have all the new features you might already be accustomed to, so that’s certainly something to think about. That said, if you do more hybrid shooting then keep the X-T30 as it has some features that you will not find on the X-Pro2. On the other hand, if you’re strictly a stills shooter then going for the X-Pro2 might be a good choice for you.
My right ear loved this!
I have a plethora of Minolta AF cameras -- and yep, the 5 is nice and compact compared to many of the earlier bodies, and feature-rich. I was wondering about your shots -- Superia 400 shot at 100 -- was the film expired or fresh? The shots look great -- in fact with bolder reds and yellows than box-speed Fuji film. Was the film processed as 400? Thanks! Oh -- I am waiting on parts 2 and 3 of your Yashica AF camera series!!! I have the 200-AF, 230-AF and 300-AF -- the 300-AF (last model made) is a pretty mature AF camera for that era -- nothing fantastic, and missing a few things (like manual ISO!), but pretty responsive and, for me anyway, takes nice focused/exposed shots.
Minolta’s Maxxum/Dynax cameras are absolutely fantastic. Out of all the modern film SLRs, they are my favorite to shoot. The Superia 400 shots were developed at 100, so they were pulled two stops. In my opinion, the color shift that happens when you shoot it at 200, and then pull it by one stop is quite pleasing to me. The colors become more vibrant. The magenta cast gets tamed a little, but still makes an appearance, and lets you know it’s a Fuji film stock. I have been procrastinating about the follow up videos on the Yashica AF-200. Let’s see if I can make it happen this month. Thanks for your feedback, and thank you for watching.
Solid pictures! Just picked up one of these in damn good shape at a good will for 12 bucks with the kit lens! Found a 50mm 1.7 on OfferUp for 20 bucks. It’s like it was meant to be. Super excited to shoot this weekend!
The kit lens is not bad, and if you stop in down you can get some good sharpness out of it. Definitely recommend the 50mm f/1.7 as it’s currently the best bang for buck in the Minolta Maxxum system.
Great video, great results. 👌🏼
Thank you for your feedback!
Hello, I need if you can tell me where the internal battery of the Yashica 200-AF is. Thank you
Ovidio, I have not done a tear-down of the 200-AF, so I would not be able to answer that question for you.

It is very nice seeing downtown San Antonio serene at night. Thank you for posting this.

Hey I want to pick one of these..XT1 Graphite or Xpro1. Both sealed box and sells for usd250 each. What would you recommend purely for sooc Jpegs. Thanks
If you’re only shooting jpegs then I would go for the X-T1 as it will give you the Classic Chrome film simulation. Still, you can’t go wrong with the X-Pro1 either.
Hey, I just bought it in 2022. It is absolutely mint. No scratches, dents, bumps, etc. Screen is mint. Cost: $350. Also, the EVF is large and clean. You're right about the auto-focus. I use manual. But the shutter shock is very real and using the electric shutter causes wavy lines when shooting fast subjects. The 14-140 is especially bad.
Unfortunately, since the camera is many generations old, it is unlikely that they will fix it in firmware. Still, if you can get past that, it’s a fantastic camera even in 2022, and especially at that price. Enjoy it!
Does the GX8 power your Rode mic or is that mic equipped with a battery? I didn't think the GX8 supplied power to the microphone...
The Rode Video Micro doesn’t use batteries, and I’ve never had issues with it, so I’m sure that the GX8 can use non-battery mics without any problems.
Wow, You are the only TH-camr who has reviewed both beasts of the past side by side. Your content deserves more attention. Seems like people watch videos of things which are trendy like the 23mm f/1.4.
Thank you, Zain! I stopped reviewing Fuji gear a while back, but I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
i didnt really understand which one is zeiss??
The Zeiss is on the left, and the Fuji is on the right.
That opening sequence was gorgeous. Saw one of these at a pawn shop today.
Thanks for the feedback! I sold mine a while back and moved to a Canon T2. Much better AF performance, and slightly smaller.
The lens is a great lens, but the fuji auto focus is a joke.
I know, it's really a question of Fuji tweaking the AF algorithm to get up to speed to Sony and Canon's level. By the looks of it, we'll have to wait to see what happens with the X-H2 and the new X-Trans V sensor.
Just got one with the bulky flash you mentioned
Hope you’re enjoying it!
How do you use the flash!? I have a flash too and I don’t know how to make it go off
@@EmmaDouglas24😳❤🤣👍🏼🥳🎉 Obviously it's not that hard. 😏 These things are never that hard, after all, they're designed to be understood and used. Let's see what our host has to say. I'd start by clarifying which type of flashgun you are trying to make “go off”! Is it the ergonomic screw down one with amber colour on top that comes with the AF 230 or a larger flashgun and if so which brand and model.
Interesting. When the first comparison came up, I thought the Zeiss had more punch given it's brightness. 🤷🏻♂️
