The liquid used for soaking is distilled water.

    While you may be tempted to polish your coins to make them look shiny and new, proceed with caution. Polishing and/or cleaning coins can reduce their value. Older coins that show deep age coloration are more desirable than coins whose surfaces have been stripped away by improper polishing or cleaning. If you do polish a coin to remove dirt, use mild soap and water. Once you’ve washed the coin, pat it dry with a soft towel. Brushing or rubbing can scratch a coin’s delicate surface. but dont do it

    • @fingaro
      @fingaro 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to stay away from the polishing, just attempting to clean the mineralization, crystallization, corrosion, and dirt. Basically, my idea is to reveal the layer of patina, if there is some left. Thanks again! 😀

      @@fingaro Okay, you just wiped out the patina thats been collecting on a coin that may have been used in the Roman times. the history, you just wiped away, and why because you thought the coin was dirty or perhaps cool? There are plenty of modern day coins in worse shape but you decided it was acceptable to destroy a piece of history, so here is my valuable thought, Your a selfish entitled moron with zero respect or care for anyone. If that was a a Denarius Jesus could have held it for all you know. Nice way to start out, destroying ancient artifacts. Next time, if your making such a decision to put on display to the WORLD, expect pushback when you do dumb shit like this. Unbelievable. You're a talented guy but man think things out!

      With all my respect, everything you see as bare metal is a dark green patina. It's just a game of light. I welcome pushback, and I want to learn from it. As far as my knowledge and tools allow me, I'm doing my best to clean and preserve the coins with all of the patina. Please, could you show me at which moment of the video I'm destroying the coin? In the last seconds, I'm showing this piece of art in daylight in my hand. It's all dark green, except for uncleaned zones, which are kinda white. The coin was given to me for cleaning by an old collector, and he was pleased with the results. And again, I've got a lot to learn and a lot of mistakes to make.

The pencils are in two sizes with removed graphite and replaced with something useful. In 0.5mm size, I'm using needles and sewing pins as inserts. In 2.0mm size, I'm using toothpicks and homemade various non-ferrous inserts, like brass or aluminum ones. Metal inserts could easily be made from different wires and a little sandpaper. For removing hard deposits, I'm using needles. Most small ones are in 0.4-0.5mm size, so they are also "easy fitter." Thanks 🤭 I'm new to this hobby and the tools list is short Tools that I'm using are: * Mechanical pencil 2mm, but instead of graphite inserts I'm using wooden ones, like toothpicks. I've also prepared some brass, aluminum, and different PVC inserts, but I'm usually using the wood ones; * dentists probe for loosening hardеr deposits; * sewing pin attached to a brass handle. I'm using it for small crevices like hair, beard, or letters in the legends. maby this weekend I'll get more mechanical pencils in different sizes, so I could use the sewing pins as inserts; * a soft brass brush for the first layer of dirt; * a medium toothbrush with shortened hair for overall cleaning; * cotton buds; * paper towels; * little vice; * x3-x5 magnifying glass. I'm waiting for a delivery of a small electronic microscope to replace the magnifying glass; That's all, nothing special :)

      I'm still trying to clean without any acidic liquids. I wanna develop better hand reactions, muscle memory, and a better understanding of the feedback from the tools. I hope in the near future I'll be confident enough to evolve the methods I'm applying. Thanks for the tip 👍

      @@fingaro each coin are different, depend where you find and the condition, the oil is not too acid you can soak the coin without the risk to damage and make the dirt more soft

    you dont clean it what a moron

    • @fingaro
      @fingaro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why's that? I shouldn't clean it, or I'm cleaning it wrong? If it's the first one, that's what the coin owner wants me to do. If it's the second, I'm open for any advice to improve myself 😀 Have a good one!

      Good to know! If it's unidentifiable, to what state should I clean it? For the next projects will be useful information. In this case, it doesn't matter because the coin owner wants to be cleaned.

      @@idubbzz7790In almost 50 years of life, every single time I hear someone say "aNy rEaL..." it automatically means that whatever the subject, they know little about it. The choice to clean is the owners. Whether to clean or not depends on each coin, what it's made of, how old it is, how decayed it is, and various other factors. In this case, without the cleaning, this coin could have been anything; there was no way to tell. You sir or madam or it, are an amateur at best.

    • @fingaro
      @fingaro 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've got no idea. The coin is not mine but from a friend's collection. There's no intention of selling, so he hasn't looked for a price. From what I see in online auctions, probably not more than 70$
