    How far apart did you space the posts? Thats the one thing I’m trying to figure out. Trying to build something very close to this, I bought all of the wood but we are doing the posts into concrete footers because we don’t have a concrete pad.

    Really nice project, ended up beautiful. Only change I would make if i make it is to eliminate the shade, which eventually will break apart because of the rain and scorching sun we have here, and substitute it for policarbonate corrugated roof panels. Obviously won't look as pretty but they will last forever and block all the rain.

    Nice job and you had me until you did the top shade and curtains. Better imo is use 2x or similar top cross slats closely spaced then install sun shade on top of that (nails or screw with washer thru grommet holes ). Who wants to look at an ugly shade cloth?... Rollup sun shade with crank handle for sidewall (s) works perfect.

    What bolts and screws did you use, and where did you get the post bases? Those are things that vary greatly in prices I think - and I'm struggling deciding how best to balance price and appearance.

    • @blackcoffeebuilds9191
      @blackcoffeebuilds9191 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't exactly remember the size, but I generally use Spax wood screws. I got those and the base posts from Menards (similar to Home Depot, but only in the midwest)

  • @TeranRealtor
    @TeranRealtor ปีที่แล้ว

    I plan on building almost exactly this style. I want to put it on a 12x28 patio slab, using 8 posts (6x6) and 2x10 main cross beams. I was thinking of using 2x8's for the rafters, then 2x4's for the tops. The spans between posts won't be much more than on yours, so perhaps I can get away with 2x8 main cross beams and 2s6's for the rafters, as you did. This would save a bunch of money!

      Very nice! That's a big pergola! I'm planning on building one myself except mine will be 30x10 and 12x10 because it goes around a corner (an extension of my front porch to make it wrap around) so it's going to be a huge project but I'm confident I can do it myself. I've been watching a lot of videos to get an idea of what style I like, etc. Good luck on your project!

    Excellent work! I will be starting such a project this weekend and this was extremely helpful. Your design is very similar to what I had in mind using notched 6x6s as well as opposed to relying on just lag bolts alone to secure. Thank You! Liked and Subbed!

  • @Soladaddy
    @Soladaddy ปีที่แล้ว

    Normally I don't like music during instructions, but yours was good, maybe just my taste... Anyway I really like the notching idea. I'm prepping for a pergola appearance in a sloped roof so the notches would have a 10 degree slant, upping the degree of accuracy and difficulty.

    Great Build! I also have a bunch of scrap red oak and will be using that for the outer trim on my miter station built as well. What were the dimensions of the red oak trim that you used? I see that you mitered the corners but also made a beveled edge? Would love to know exactly the dimensions and angles you used and if you would be OK, sharing that with me, since it looks so great! Thanks!

    • @blackcoffeebuilds9191
      @blackcoffeebuilds9191 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! The trim was 2x2 that I cut down to about 1.5 x 1.5. I didn't bevel the edge. I considered it, but thought that the edge could be used for clamping pieces and it would be easier without a bevel.

    Nice enough job that, though here in the UK you can buy them for less than the price of making one. One technique I use when I'm notching out with the circular saw is to run the saw plate along the edge of the speed square, thereby creating a nice straight 90 degree cut. As for the posts Mariano commented they'll be fine as their mostly under compression, assuming you tie back the curtains come any big wind! Better than concreating them in were they rot off in 8-10 years.
