Coworker video
I had a real person tell me that his favorite artists are Ed Sheeran and Imagine Dragons
It's certain genres of music that you can't avoid when you're in a public space, or when TH-cam plays an ad. You know how jarring it is to go from an 11 minute instrumental doom metal/space rock piece to suddenly hearing Ed Sheeran or Billie Elish because TH-cam wants you to download their music app? If you were in my shoes, that'd tick you the hell off especially while you're working.
BRO I SO HAPPY YOU MENTION JOEY I LOVE HIS STUFF
bring 2007 kanye back
its npc music thats pg13 and wont get you sent to HR
So it's just another season of people projecting their own insecurities of not being good enough in their own eyes as them being better than others for being ✨ different ✨ in choices of music. The cycle starts once again.
It's pronounced jay phag. The P in JPEG stands for photo 🌈
Death Grips mention :D

Showing Moby to anyone is an instant GG
I hate it when people say things are NPC music just because they’re Popular smh
Sounds like the definition is “music that has existed for a little while.” I don’t remember people calling Radiohead “basic” in 2005 and I doubt a lot of people called AC/DC “inoffensive” in 1980. Maybe once we get too used to a certain kind of sound we start to look down on people who still like to hear it.
If NPC music because is "so inoffensive" then why are they offended by it? :3
She’s got some nice melons on the cover. That’s good enough for me.
Not me hoping Coworker music was a new genre of music...
Basically you are talking about commercial music. Anything that makes money is crap.
Look, I don't aim to dehumanised or anything, but I swear, literally everyone at my work aside from me listened to some kind of rap, so when I read, 'Coworker Music' that's what I thought of.
"Anime opening" ahh genre (still good genre tho)
Anything on the radio.
2:26 might be a hot take, but i actually do think this is a bad thing + probably is actively bad for people Not only do i think that's true with movies too, but i think music and movies differ in a way that makes it even worse to do it with music. People who "don't really like music" or only listen to the most basic stuff seem beaten down or dehumanized, in a way that's similar to people whose homes look impersonal and from a catalogue (but far worse)
The lack of a bikini kill cameo is criminal
I got banned from the aux because my coworkers deemed Turnstile to be “too heavy”
to me "coworker [x]" has less to do with the "npc" denotation and more to do with the idea that either the coworker has [A: no time to look into any better music] or [B: a fear of attempting making connection through anything niche] because those are just real world societal conditions. you admitted it yourself with the "yeah, man, sure" instead of sharing anything you might actually like, it's about being palatable for someone you just "smalltalk" with. pointing out "normie"/"npc"/"coworker" behavior as abnormal is because you don't process the social norm of trying to make yourself palatable for small talk by being as mundane and nothing as possible is very autistic and i mean that in a good way. autistic in the way of being able to process that something doesn't make sense and shouldn't be that way
I make my coworkers listen to dungeon synth, breakcore, and atmospheric ambient. Sometimes i put on xaviersobased just to mess with them
I think it's music that is inoffensive. People might be self-conscious about their music taste, so they say they like what everyone else likes. People usually don't want to share obscure music because then they would have to explain it and try to justify why they like it and they are worried other people might hate it so they just put on some popular music because they don't feel like explaining themselves or risk people thinking they're weird. I've had people listen to CD mix tapes I made while I was driving, and they spent the whole time roasting the music I was listening to. So from now on, I don't play any of my music. It's the radio or nothing, I know people might not like the stuff I listen to so they don't get to hear it because they'll make fun of me for listening to it so coworker music it is.

Hurrikan by electric callboy is kinda like this
HOT HEAD OH NO BLOWBLOWBLOWLBLOWLVLOWLBLOWBLOWBLOWBLOWVLOWBLOWLBOW
For some reason I’m starting to think “npc-” or “coworkermusic” are just alternative terms for “Popular music I don’t like, because I’m not like other girls.” Like, I listen to stuff from electro swing to punk rock. But I also really like Imagine Dragons. I know it’s a term describing people JUST listening to mainstream songs, but geez.
i was (was keyword) a metal elitist, so i understand many of the points that those people made (the shirt one was about people wearing those shirts without actually listening to the bad ex. nirvana shirt) but yeah, the issues do exist but they blow them out way more than what they should
Day 29395 on trying to figure out how people think reggaeton is actually listenable and danceable:
Please please please listen to Man Man! I’m genuinely curious to see if you’d like it, especially the first few albums
IMO music preferences is kinda like sexual preferences, i'm okay to discuss it or to jokingly roast each others taste. With normal people you can always ask to skip track or turn on something that would be ok for everyone present to listen to.
This man's music taste is terrible. Blocked.
My "coworker music" is basically just retail music, and any kind of inoffensive stuff that gets played at any kind of shopping center, food places like McDonalds and similar. The song themselves are generally nbd to me and there's only a few I'd call trash, but hearing those kinds of songs in those places often either annoys me a lot or gives me anxiety and I either put my earbuds in to listen to whatever I'm feeling like atm or I hurry to leave the place. Idk why that happens but I think it just might be the extreme repetition of the kinds of songs being played and it probably negatively impacts my mood.
Just gatekeeping. More gatekeeping. My tastes are pretty basic. That's why I love the genre phobic series. Learn new stuff! But if someone says their fave rapper is drake, what if we had a "oh cool if you like drake have ya heard..." In reply.
I’m going to keep listening to my ultimate underground.
Brat is coworker music
I work out of a small office that (until very recently) has had barely corporate structure and my office is relatively isolated with a few people passing through every now and then or sticking around maybe a couple hours. In this environment I'm just playing Wu-Tang, random jazz, trance music, rockers whatever lol. Should consider myself very lucky.
That first song is so iconic, you always hear it on events irl
I prefere someone who just listens to stuff thats popular and is chill about it, to some music elitists that only listen to one specific subsubgenre and constantly complain how other more mainstream stuff is "not real music". Like, chill, your ears won't fall off just because Katy Perry is playing in the background.
happy by pharrel williams came out 12 years ago. i struggle to see how it's npc music, if that's npc music, then brat by charli xcx is even more npc music. anything that was ever popular is npc music. go find and like songs nobody has ever heard of. or go find and like songs everyone has heard of but you never listened to. who cares. it's pathetic. next we'll be saying bach and beethoven are npc music. the only common denominator is "it's popular for one reason or another and i don't like it" i think the problem is when people pretend like it's the best thing they've ever heard. for me it's Charli XCX and Brat... even though the album itself is mid and has like 2-3 good, unique songs that only a minority of people actually want to listen to on repeat. the entire brat album feels, pardon the pun, PHONED IN beyond the intention of how the album is supposed to sound. and speaking of, the sound profile of the brat album is stolen without any credit or reverence for the indie artists who gave her the ideas she used to make this album. it acts as though it stands alone, when this album literally wouldn't exist and charli xcx wouldn't have even made it in the first place were it not for the smaller artists she's clearly inspired by, but all but IGNORED in this album. colonisation and theft is second nature to us british people. so i'm not surprised.
I’m surprised there aren’t more angry fans decrying you calling Radiohead basic.
happy is a banger tho
pronouncing sennheiser as sinai-zer is crazyyy
Blud is real for being employed
When I hear the term "coworker music," what comes to mind is "Oh, this person is proud of their inability to have diverse taste." Genuinely, it's like being colorblind, and claiming that it's better than having unimpeded vision. "Yeah dude, I don't see red or green well, but FUCK red and green anyway, those colors suck, who would even WANT to see them? Oh, you like them? Fucking pleb." Just a clear indication of a person to not take seriously.
I often get nervous people won’t like what I like while sharing music, so I usually prefer to share mainstream “coworker” music so we can make fun of it together and just take it less seriously because it’s less personal. There are a lot of good mainstream songs as well I found out, not by any means genius lyrically but just nice to listen to which is the whole point of music to most people.
I hate this so much, why does tiktok always invent new words of random shit just so they have something to hate on
Idk, tbh. I also find it annoying when people do that (e.g. TikTok coining the term “poor people lighting” a few months ago. WTF?)
Same, people on Tik Tok just love to hate
This isn't just tiktok this has been pretty much all social media forever.
