Awesome, subscribed!
Just wondering if anyone knows the width used, is it 5cm?
Battletech brought me here. I have a 1/72 Dougram Bigfoot "Battlemaster" that stands at 6.25 inches and was wondering if at 1/100 this is a comparable size "Marauder"?
Here's why this channel is failing or has failed. He's an excellent crafter, but constantly taking 3-5 minutes to explain what you're going to do in the video, and then (again) telling us what you're doing in the video is a 9th level sleep spell for most people. (And we don't also need a recap of a previous video either.) There's no life in your videos, just a monotoned, repeating blow by blow. Just a respectful suggestion... Make this your intro- "Hey guys, Dave with Chaos Craft here... and today I'm going to show you how I made this inexpensive terrain with just some simple materials, and you can too, so let's get started!" That's it. That's all you need. You don't need to have a 5-minute opening of what you're going to do, only to say it again while you're doing it. And try to inject just a little enthusiasm in what you're doing. Again, you're an excellent crafter Dave, but your YT business sense sucks. But it's your channel, do what you want. I hope you succeed.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
I usually put down a layer of parchment paper when I'm applying sand or flocking. This SIGNIFICANTLY reduces mess. Just funnel the excess back into your bin.
I am new to the terrain building scene, and i have to say, this video helped me out immensely! I have taken on a huge project for my gaming group, of building all the terrain for DCC's sailors on the Starless sea, and was having huge trouble on how to build the underground mountain at the end. This gave me hope, that it wasn't going to be as daunting as i was making it out to be. Thanks!!!
Makes me happy! I'm glad my project can help someone else. Feel free to ask questions or if you need assistance. I would love to see some pictures, you can tag me on Instagram @chaos.crafting.grumpy.dad
Looking good. I prefer short format vids dues to being a dad, I think 25-30min is my limit for long vids.
I hear you. Often my time is not my own. It is not easy balancing family time, me time and hobby time.
You mean there's a balance! 😂
Commenting to appease the algorithm gods
Much appreciated!
New to the channel. Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to your next video
Welcome! What is your hobby of choice? Currently I am in the middle of building a Dragon ship for my D&D campaign.
That turned out very nicely! No real dragon longships survive, we have only the viking sagas (and rare descriptions penned by their intended victims) to recreate the look. It is said that the dragon heads were removable and only fitted on the prow during raids, but there is some debate about that.
Brad! Dropping Viking knowledge like a boss! Having dabbled in real world woodworking, I can understand keeping something as significant as a hand carved dragon head safe. Thanks for the comment.
The dragon came out really awesome!!!!! The wood grain and carving worked out perfectly! I think apoxie sculpt was the way to go. Beautifully done!!! Looking forward to seeing more 😊
Thank you! I think I'm going to try more sculpting. It made my inner child very happy =)
Great job, David. I thought that Dragonhead looked very Viking - like.
Hey Rick! I saw your name in my Facebook feed scroll by... "suggested friends" =) You have been making some great terrain, you are keeping me on my toes!
@@Chaos_Crafting thanks a bunch, my brother. If you’d like, friend, request me.
Awesome job!! This ship is coming together nicely. I like the bite size but, a king size now and a gain might be cool. Great content dude
I really appreciate the feedback, may I ask another question? On long format videos do you like a continual running monologue or is crafting and music acceptable? The reason I ask, the talking side of my brain wants to turn off as the creative side starts to fire off.
@@Chaos_CraftingHey buddy, thanks for the reply. Go with what works for you. I like the narration but once you get going I can understand the mind switches gears. I'll take whatever you are comfortable with. I just want to see more crafting. 15 minutes can be a teaser for what you do. Thanks for your interest in subscribers thoughts!
Looking good, bro! I can’t wait to see the future videos for this build.
This boat is going to be awesome!!!! Can’t wait to see the carving of the dragon head 😊😊😊
Great show mate! Let's see the head carving next.
That is the direction I am leaning. Thanks for the kind words!
I'm a Rail Road Modeler, and I have a lot of XPF scenery similar to your build, but a lot more. I have a color of Latex paint I want to use, It's house latex paint and I want to mix it with Mod Podge to create my base coat, Can I mix it with latex paint? Great video!
I have heard that mod podge and latex paint react together and never dry fully. I have never tried it myself, be bet would be to try a small test on a scrap of the foam. I have always used acrylic paint with the mod podge and sealed it with minwax spray varnish. Thanks for the comment!
Cool build 😊
Glad you like it
Stone-throwing Devils! (whoops. wrong game.) I like the simplicity and adaptability of this approach.
I love building terrain! There are two downsides, the time it takes and storing an item after. Modularity is the way, build once and use may ways. Thanks for to comment. BTW, I loved MTG back in the day.
What was the color used for the Sails? I could not make out the bottle.
Vallejo Khaki-70988 as the base with sepia ink for shadows. Finished off with a drybrush of a little white and khaki mix.
Please put the music LOWER. I can barely hear you!
I am still a noob when it comes to video editing. Thank you for the feedback.
Damn!!! This is amazing!!!
Sorry for the late reply, I very much appreciate the kind words. This terrain piece is by far one of my favorite. I get to use it all the time.
Outstanding
Every time I watch one of your videos I learn a new way to use my Proxxon
I have wanted to start doing rocks out of foam for a while, but for some reason I can never get them looking right... so I have gotten scared to even do them... I build dioramas for photo shoots with my HO locomotives. All I want is to make foam look like rocks.
I see two ways to accomplish this. one: master carving foam to look like rocks, takes time and practice. or two: Woodland Scenics sells a rock mold that lets you cast realistic looking rocks from plaster that you can glue to a foam backdrop. (woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/C1231)
The taped down ruler is a clever idea. These turned out real good. How long did it take you to make the whole thing?
a few hours start to finish, took longer for the primer to dry than it did to assemble and paint. I guess it depends on the level of detail you want to put into the project.
@@Chaos_Crafting With the Proxxon you can make short work if things like that. I guess, as long as you pay attention to the angles and your cuts.
Good to see you back 👍
The way they fit together with that corner piece was incredible, theres a magic to simple concepts executed precisely.
An observation and nik-picking of the stone layout around the archway. The stones around the archway would be more realistic having dressed stones around it and/or having a key stone at the top, because if that was built in reality it would fall done due to no key stone to lock the stones in place above the arch etc. But it does look very good otherwise.
Well done. Really like the fast forward on parts and the slow down on others. Makes it fun to watch.
Great video. Easy to follow. Well done!
Thanks Skip, I appreciate the feedback
Just found your channel, absolutely beautiful work! Thanks for the great content and inspiration.
Thank you! Work has kept me away from crafting but I should have a new video soon.
Simple Green won't melt plastic. I've left minis in there for months with zero damage.
good to know! I think in the far past I used another pine smelling stripper that melted a few plastic minis.
Great commentary! Very entertaining
You, probably, should have done the windows earlier, sandwiching the plasticard between the outer parts for a better end look
They both look really good 😊
David, super cool vid! Will be getting some molds. Looking forward to your video!
Hey Dave, great post! Much appreciated. Just subscribed to the channel.
Just a pro-tip if you are willing to splurge (up front) to bring costs down even further and with a little extra work: use the 4ft x 8ft variants which was mentioned in the foot note at 1:18 . While the smaller panels are more convenient, the 1 in x 4ft x 8ft panels cost only about $22 after tax at my local home depot (which comes out to about $0.69 per square foot, nice!) whereas the 2x2 ft panel costs $1.50 per square foot. If you have a pick up truck, or a larger vehicle that can carry the 4x8 foot sheets home with the rear window down, I highly suggest doing it this way if you're planning on (eventually) creating enough terrain out of foam for an entire table (or want to have spare foam for fancier and more elaborate terrain). Same goes with the mdf board, but honestly, since most tables are just 3.66ft x 5ft or 3.66ft x 7.5 ft, you could just eat the cost and buy a 1/8 in x 4ft x 8ft mdf hardboard panel at home depot for about $15 after tax, and just slam the foam on top since you're already heading over! This does increase initial cost from $22.14 (using my local tax and given prices) to $37.14 so $15, but you end up with roughly 4x as much foam and mdf hardboard. (But this is just for those who already know that they're going to use up at least half of all of the materials, and know what they're getting themselves into. The only reason I took this approach was because I knew I was bound to make mistakes and am a perfectionist. I didn't end up going through all of it, but about 75%. I have the remaining 25% stored in the attic and can grab and continue to use at a moments notice) Ignoring what I've said thus far, this is a very well made and thought out video! You earned a subscribble from myself! (whatever that's worth)
Darius you are spot on! I was being a little lazy when it came to getting the smaller sized material. I have a small car and need to cut down the larger sheets of foam to have them fit. With that said, I am going back soon to get a large sheet of the 2 inch thick XPS. Thanks for the kind words on the video, I know I still have a lot to learn.
@@Chaos_Crafting Naw, I'm sure you're being too humble, you're doing great! Good Luck!
Hey, Army, outstanding off the page!! Inexpensive but highly creative! I sure do appreciate you, my friend. -Rick, USMC.

Nicely done. I've made a few, using phones, but never this large. I really like you added the platforms, for good mini placement. Props for the ST:TOS reference. Cool build
Sweet! Nice job. Love dungeon side
Really like your builds there all great. Have you ever built a water mill ?
I have not!... That would allow me to work with water effects, hummmm. I like the idea

Very cool! Thanks for not making pure gray stone hehe Where did you get that vine-looking moss? I want some.
Too much of any color is not good. I want to try a multi brick color build soon. As far as the moss goes: www.michaels.com/moss-variety-pack-by-ashland/10135036.html
