Should Golf Be Fun

In today’s video I want to discuss one of the most important aspects in the game of golf, which is so often overlooked in favor of swing mechanics and game strategy. And that’s attitude. Many of us love this game because of the competitive spirit. As we get older and can’t play other sports competitively, golf gives us the chance to keep it going. And that’s what makes it great. I mean seriousl...

Iv got the amvr and put lots of lead tape on it until it was around the weight of my real clubs. Really happy with it now
Weighted club makes a huge difference. I love this game.
I'm new to VR golf but an avid real world golfer so I wasn't happy with just the controller either. On the other hand the ones I saw to buy had ( in my opinion ) way too many "broke the first day" type reviews. So I searched and found a video from a guy who made his own. Pretty much copied that. Cost me $10 in parts plus the sacrifice of an old wedge that was no longer part of my "gamer" set. Modified the build just a bit and added weights so that it really feels like swinging a club. Perfect! I'd suggest going that route. Didn't take much time to build, took a few minutes to adjust it in the game ( there is a custom spot where the other handles are listed ) and I'm completely satisfied with the ongoing result.
i got a VR headset about 3 years ago. bought Golf+ first, then Walkabout Mini Golf then many games here and there afterwards. played a couple holes on Golf+ then played Walkabout with some family members. i haven’t played anything but Walkabout ever since. this game might be fun, but my point is, Walkabout Mini Golf is really what you should be doing on VR. 😂
Gold is one of the most bring games I’ve ever played but in my house?
Been looking for golf books to add to my reading list. Imagine my surprise when "Golf's Three Noble Truths" was on your list! I was an English major at Springfield College, and James Ragonnet was one of my favorite professors! (p.s. you nailed the pronunciation of his name) I very much enjoy that book! Also: I've added Missing Links to my list. Thanks!
That's a great coincidence. I had the chance to email with James a couple of times and he always had some great golf tips to share! It is truly a book I go back and read no less than once a year. You will love Missing Links. Trust me.
Can you hit flops by opening the club face? Or pitch and runs by closing it?
Yes
@@bruinmontour3032 That's good to know. I don't think I've tried it yet!
Yes u can
Just got mine for Xmas. Are you at saddleback or Buffalo run?
Great Xmas gift! I was actually at Common Ground golf course. Their par three course.
Playing RD today 👍🏼
Battery lasts about 45mins on that meta 3good look with golf waiting 2hours to charge
Ain't going to lie, battery life could be better. There are solutions but I haven't looked into them yet.
Buy the battery extender, gives you 2 hours plus.
Save money buy an extended cord .that’s what I did
The hole showed as #4 is actually hole 5.
Thanks for the clarification!
Game is fun. The fake club is a scam. Doesnt work
I've tried about three or four clubs. Some work better than others. But I don't think I've found the perfect club yet. Let me know if you do.
Did you go and select it as an accessory when playing?
A fine green line. I’ve read it 3 times and counting. Jack Nicklaus my life. Mark Frost Bobby Jones. Are my top 3. Difficult decision like saying favourite 3 kids out of 4
Always love hearing feedback on great books! Thanks for sharing!
You can also see the lines on the green just holding the end of your club up above the handle, like tilt it up and it will show you the green lines and how far the hole is and all that.
Awesome to know! Thanks.
He can actually keep the lines on if he go too the settings and won’t have to click a thang
There is now a new open interface for the Quest 3 made by Meta that is made mainly for Mixed Reality experiences but I found it easier to be aware of my outside surroundings when in VR. Maybe give it a try.
Colorado Golfer, you did a tremendous job with this review of not only Golf+,, but the club accessory as well. I like the fact that you showed a view of you swinging the club in many of your shots. It showed me that with the device you are capable of producing what looks like a very realistic golf swing on with the device you were using. My concern was that there wasn't going to be enough mass in the club grip, shaft, harness, and controller to give you enough inertia to produce a full swing. I bought Golf + over a year ago for my grandson's Oculus Quest. It was okay, gut just swinging that light motion controller by itself didn't give me enough tangible physical swing elements to make it work for me. It looks like what you had might get the job done. Have you by chance tried this club accessory for Golf +: "DriVR Elite VR Golf Club Handle Attachment". It looks like it's longer and has weights on the end of it that can be taken off or added to give the club feel the player desires. It's $100, but I saw a You Tube review of it that made me think it might be worth the cost. I have a 9 foot ceiling in my rec room, so I don't think the extra legnth of the shaft with the DriVR Elite club would be a problem for me in terms of clearance, even though I'm 6'4".
Love my Yezro! I liked my Helloreal with weight ring, but the Yezro is so much better. Easy to get to controller buttons. Protects the controller, and is the best controller mounting system, fast and easy. The Deadeye has nice weight, but the way the controller is far down the shaft and upside down makes using it a real pain.
You made me test to see if the weights can be removed. They can. It needs some serious oomph though. I used a latex coated glove and they did come off.
The other yezro has removable weights
Patrick Renna is a lot older than I thought.
Would love like an actual swing trainer mode.. say input your height etc and get a swing path to suit you and follow a guide, or even copy pro swings..
Its worthwhile yes.. and in pro mode its just as frustrating as real golf..
Really enjoyed this video, and with it being late summer and all the courses being booked, I am eagerly waiting late fall / winter golf. (Another benefit is the price will often drop to off-season rates). If you get back around to more course reviews at any point, you should check out Four Mile in Cañon City or Murphy Creek east Aurora. Both are unique and a lot of fun.
Thanks for the response! Yes, I too, look forward to being able to get a tee time and lower rates. I will be doing more reviews, and would love to do one on Murphy Creek. It's a fun and challenging course. Only problem with that course is I can't fly my drone as it's too near an airport. Four Mile I haven't heard about, so thank you for suggesting it. I will have to add it to my list. Keep an eye open as I'll be dropping some more videos this fall and winter!
you need to get the deadeye drivr elite , massive upgrade.
I just got the Drivr elite mini. I love it! I would imagine the larger original version would feel more realistic due to the weight distribution, but j don't have a lot of room to swing, so was concerned with the elite, so opted for the mini.
@@BillSteiny how do you calibrate the mini? I tried to use it in Golf + and only the Drivr is available in settings. It looks/feels like I'm using a short kids' club. I adjusted the length to 200% and it's still too short
@@kweezy0000So, I quickly fell out of love with the DriVR Elite and the mini version. Returned them and replaced them with the Yezro 90° off Amazon, which is about half the price and much better. I ended up running into similar issues with setup. Things seemed fine when I was just using the driver and in the range mode of the game. I quickly realized the flaws of the design once I got to shorter clubs and putter. So yeah, the manual calibration is difficult to begin with. But then because of the orientation of the controller on the DriVR, being behind the shaft and facing away from the headset, it caused a ton of tracking issues. The best advice I can give now is to get a different attachment that is set up for more optimal tracking such as the Yezro.
@@BillSteinyjust ordered the Yezro and will report back! I like the AMVR which has a similar orientation to the Yezro but I can’t seem to lose my slice. Like not even once. Per another TH-cam recommendation, I closed the club faces for all clubs and I still have an issue. Hoping it’s 1) not my swing, and 2) just a coding issue within that particular club attachment. We will see if the Yezro is any different.
@kweezy0000 I was struggling with slice for a while, then struggled with pushing left. Both were definitely my swing. I found that slowing my swing down some helped tremendously. I had to remember that even though it's pretty realistic, it's still a game and things in game definitely behave in their own way at times. Slower and more steady improved my accuracy a lot.
The lack of courses makes the golf+ and golf 5 useless after a few play throughs.
Hmmmm...I'm not sure I agree. There are a ton of courses in my opinion. And there's some that are great to play over and over. When you do play, which courses do you prefer. On another note, can you imagine belonging to a country club and ONLY playing that course? Or playing it the majority of times. I have a membership at one course (not a CC) and, even though I really enjoy it, I'm losing money on it because I am the type of golfer who loves to mix it up.
Sorry for your loss. You might want to remove the black cover from the headset, you can just pull it off, so you have more peripheral vision. It will cost you some immersion. Plus with glasses it is more comfortable that way. Thanks for the videos.
Hey, I appreciate the condolences. Big, tough, expensive lesson. I've eliminated any issues by moving into a room with no electronics! I want the full headset experience.
double tap ur headset and u will be able to see!
Where do you tap it? I tried it once and nothing happened. Always appreciate the input!
You won't have to worry about back swing into your tv
Try playing with ur back facing ur sofa I have the same setup in my living room. If you stand against ur sofa and hold ur head up and look straight a head and recenter it should recenter you in the same spot
Yeah, I was doing that but then switched. Anyhow, I have eliminated any chance of killing my new TV by moving into another room! Thanks for your suggestion!!
How good is it at tracking club face angle? If you purposefully hit a shot with a very closed or opened face, will it react to that?
I think overall it's pretty damn accurate. However, I do believe it has more of a tendency to slice the ball the hook. I have actually tried to hook the ball...and believe me, I KNOW how to hook a ball on a course. And it never does. So I think they have some work to do yet. But for a relatively newish game, I think they're making big strides. And I can not wait for where things are in the next 6 months or a year. I have to assume it's just going to get better and better.
Battery will not last 36 holes. I’ve tried multiple times. Other than that it’s amazing
Yeah, I haven't ever thought of using it for 36 holes. But for that matter, I'm not sure I can walk 36 holes either:).
You know you can hit the trigger to follow your shot?
Yes, but I always forget. But I also kind of like to hit a shot and feel like I'm on the course, where I watch it till it lands. I get the benefit of speeding things up, but seriously sometimes I really try to lose myself in the game and feel as much as I can as if I'm playing the course.
Hello, thank you very much for your time and effort to make this video. I find it very helpful. Maybe it would have more views, if you would put other mire specific keywords in title and description. Like Meta Quest 3, Yezro etc. Wish you a lovely weekend. Kind Regards David
Hey David, much appreciated for your time and suggestions. I will try adding those keywords! Thanks for watching the video and look for more to come!
My actual golf game has gone to crap when I play this game for a bit and then go swing an actual club
Hey Bryan, I've heard that from others as well. But I think (and I may be doing a video where I'll explain more in detail) it's actually helped my game. But I could see it going both ways. Thanks for sharing! Keep an eye out for the video...maybe it might shed some light. Hope the golf game gets better!
Just got a Quest 3. Love the video bro!
Dude, thanks so much! I love the Quest 3 and Golf +. Hope you're loving all the courses they have to play. Keep an eye out for some upcoming videos. Been swamped lately but getting caught up!
seen lots of these videos, and yours is the first one that shows you can actually leave the anti wheelie bars ON the push cart. most show you need to take off and out on each time. perfect thanks
Yeah, I always leave them on. Seems like a lot of extra work to take off and put back on again. Glad this video helped!
It's the meta quest 3, oculus is only used for the pc software nowadays.
Good to know. Thanks.
it's suck.
Respectfully disagree:)
The biggest issue I see is that it doesn't really handle thick and thin shots at all and I've yet to see a shank or toe shot simulated. Still, it is useful and definitely fun.
Yeah, it's not 100% accurate for sure. But I do think they're improving it all the time. I appreciate the feedback! Sorry for the late response. Been busy but hoping to add some more videos soon!
Pronounced Louis-ville. Hwy 36 turnpike. Otherwise nice drone views of the course.
Most on the Golf+ attachment videos are made by VR guys that play golf as one of many games whereas you're a true golfer trying VR so I think your perspective on the best attachment is really valuable. I'm looking to buy a club attachment for the Quest 3 Golf +. Looking at other videos the top recommended attachments are: Yezro 24/26" weighted (which you reviewed) Yezro 90° weighted AMVR (which you reviewed) Yoges (least expansive and not weighted) DeadEye DriVR Elite (most expansive, weighted) I think if you did a solid review of all the top options on one video, with the right keywords you could get a lot of views 😉 your overall top recommendation, best value for the $$, does weighted/not weighted really matter, etc. Thanks for the great videos so far and best of luck!
Hey, I appreciate the feedback and ideas. I will definitely consider doing so!
Driver Elite is the best option. You can attach it to a club shaft cut to the length of your choice and adjust the weights. Best for full swing feel and stops you from missing out on weighted swing practice. I’m a +1 IRL and stay between +5 and +10 Golf+ for reference
@@KnowUhhhave you found that golf+ messed with your real world swing at all? My real world game has come a long way this summer (+6) bit where we are heading into the winter off season, I'm nervous that this may undo it.
@@TheJhuss10 are you able to continue practice with or swinging your real clubs occasionally? Getting the weighted setup I have now does help because even in game you have to have the correct swing path on Pro. I don’t play amateur unless I double the weight like a swing trainer
Very nice video , thanks :D
Glad you liked it!
What’s the cart?
It's called The Omni cart. Here's a link to the various options they have: alphardgolf.com/collections/bundle-specials
I'm a walk about mini golf person myself.
I need to give that a try for sure! Thanks.
You need the remote the sidekick follows it
True indeed. I've only used the sidekick once but plan to use it more!
How is it on the downhill? Does it run away from you? How do you control downhill speed?
It does really well. It won't run away...it will actually slow down a little if it goes into a downhill at any speed. If you want it to go faster you can...but it will go at a slow speed. Hope that helps. If you're thinking of getting one, I don't think you can go wrong!
realistically you should have another video on whether golf is worth it. if you do golf with one or more real person and if you walk the course as opposed to driving round in a buggy then it is not really a comparison
I agree that nothing beats playing real golf on a great course while walking. But when you can't get out there, or it's night...then this is a fun way to go. I have actually fixed things in my actual golf swing playing this game. Cheers!
I was concerned this would make you a worse player 🤷🏻♂️ although now I'm thinking being 52 it could be good to keep your swing moving , stop the rustiness creeping in maybe?
It certainly hasn't hurt my game. If anything, I believe it's helped! Plus it was fun, for example, to play Valhalla on VR during the PGA Championship. Caught myself more than once saying, "I remember hitting that shot."
Excellent video I want one!!
I am a VR pro in Japan and I really appreciated seeing you doing this as you come in from the other side - a player that is actually a player in real life as well. Very nice indeed!
A VR Pro? Please explain. Sounds interesting. Yes, I play real golf way more than VR...but I have to say I really love playing VR and I do think it helps my game. I can't wait to see where things will be in a couple of years!
@@coloradogolfer I run a VR agency in Japan, creating experiences and 3D models for museums, local government, prefectural government etc. Lately we do industrial work as well. For my own pleasure, I play mini-golf in VR and hope to be brave enough to try golf one day :)
@@hanskarlsson3778 Sounds like a great business! Definitely give Golf + a try if you haven't yet. I think it would be a great gateway into playing on a real course. And it's fun!
