I've riden motorcycles since I was 12. Started off on farm bikes (1980's Honda 90's, XL/XR500's, Yamaha AG175's), and loved off-road - where I learnt to crash :-)
The first bike I brought was a Suzuki PE175 ... which taught me how to crash even more! Eventually moved to faster road bikes, my favourite being the Suzuki RG400 - where I was glad I had gained experience in crashing - several times.
My name is Marty and I live in New Zealand, and in my older years I've settled down with just two bikes. Harley Sportster (pretty modified :-) and a DesertX (chalk and cheese).
The focus of this Channel is to showcase New Zealand, ad how the DesertX handles the conditions, and my thoughts and impressions.

Riding a Ducati Desertx around the East Coast of New Zealand (Part 1)
This is part one of a four day ride (on my Ducati Desertx) from Wellington to the East Coast of New Zealand.
The East Coast is one of the most beautiful parts of New Zealand, and very few tourists go there. Why? Probably because it is not widely promoted, and is seen as a major diversion from the standard tourist route.
My hope is that this series of videos is going to demonstrate why not travelling around the East Coast of the North Island is a big mistake, especially if you are on a motorbike.

Ducati Desertx Lowering Suspension Kit (Part 2)
มุมมอง 543ปีที่แล้ว
Second part video looking at the lowering suspension kit and seat on the DesertX. Bit of a scenic tour around Wellington. If you are a shorter rider and have the DesertX - I totally recommend lowering it.
Fitted the Ducati Desert X lowering suspension kit and low seat. Is it worth it?

Is installing the Ducati Desert X lower seat and low suspension kit worth the money for a shorter rider?
Best and Cheapest Motorcycle Tool Case??

Most experienced riders can agree that you should carry some basic essentials with you every time you go riding (i.e. Tools, Tyre repair, Medical etc.). But do you? If not, is the main issue having to carry them? I explore the various options , and what I choose for the Ducati Desert X. I installed the SuperCheap Auto ToolPRO tool hardcase.
i was wondering about the screen, is it the oem screen . if not has it helped with the buffeting from the original. also, did the lower seat help with the wind
thanx for the useful information. Exactly what I've been looking for.
Hi this popped up in my feed, I lowered the suspension on one of these here in Auckland New Zealand last year for a customer front and rear, 27mm front, 24-28mm rear, $680.00 without new seals as it was a new bike. Customer was very happy with the result.
Juat got my DDX 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it. I'm based in Wellington as well so maybe you would be kwwn for a chicky coffee in town?
Lose a glove?
See you have a Sun Simulator in NZ 😮 Obvious hexagonal shape and cold bluish light. They've been in full time use since 1993 apparently
have you heard there's a shorter kick stand from Ducatis as a recall?
Yes I do … it’s came out for the standard suspension … the one that came with the shorter suspension hasn’t changed? I just took it in for the service a month ago and the recall didn’t affect the shorter one that was already installed. I was also informed the redesigned centre stand that stopped previous sales is coming to market this month :)
hey thank you for informative video. I’ve been riding ktm 390 adv for little more than 1 year. got 8k km on it and I’ve been doing more offroad lately. I’m 170 tall and you know ktm seat height is 85. it was a little challenge for me in first couple weeks with it but now I’m used to it. I’m thinking about upgrading it to a Desert X, do you think I will be okay with just lowered seat?
Unfortunately no … the seat alone made very little difference for me … it became way more obvious with the lowered suspension. The difference was going from tip toe to being on the balls of my feet.
Great vid for all us 29” inside leg guys. Is it worth a drop of a inch on the forks? Many thanx from UK 🇬🇧
Definitely… especially with lower seat … confidence rose 100%
Going to beat the French today?
No :)
Muchas gracias por tu aporte. Disipaste dudas y preguntas que tenía sobre está misma situación. Un abrazo desde Paraguay 🇵🇾🤙🏻
A really helpful video, thank you. I picked up my DDX a few days ago, loving it, but i do find it tall as you describe. I'm seriously considering the lowering kit, but unsure how it would affect handling on road and off road? I imagine the reduced suspension travel off road in particular would be noticeable?
Hi … sorry for delay. The on road handling isn’t effected by the lowering kit or not that I noticed. I haven’t done much off-road so can’t comment. But the clearance is pretty good and don’t think it impacts it’s a lot … you can play with preload and other setting to minimise bottoming out.
i've ordered my lowering kit but what do they actually do? do they use spacers with the springs and do they just stick the new spring on? cheers mate
Sorry for delay … but all the springs are replaced and you get the shorter side stand
or even CORNERING test! ha,want to get this done for mine too
I just ordered the suspension lowering kit for my X, but I ditched the factory seats entirely because they are extremely uncomfortable for me.
Hi, is that a larger than standard screen? How’s the buffeting from it?
Yes it’s the touring screen … and buffering is reduced … but there still is some buffering over 100kms per hour… below that is good and depends on direction and strength of wind.
Riding gloves my friend! Get them ASAP!!
I have 3 pairs … if I didn’t have them on during video it was to run the video recorder
What luggage rack is that? The Ducati OEM one? Or a third party? Thx.
Third party … I’ll get the brand in a second
Sw-motech adventure rack 195 euro
thanks for the video! i've been wondering how the lowered suspension kit works, did you try it with the stock seat? was thinking that would keep your knees stretched out just a bit more.....sláinte
Hi … no haven’t tested it with the standard seat … it would mean it’s a cm higher. I found the knee angle ok with the lower seat … but every 20 mins or so I stand up which helps. I actually have my handle bars set to off-road position which makes it more comfortable when standing.
@@thefoxnz right on! Thats cool
You should check out my part two on the lower suspension - It shows you how much it actually lowers the bike.
@@thefoxnz will do!
I am considering purchasing the Desert X but the seat height worries me a bit. I had been wondering about the lower seat option with the low suspension kit accessory. Your video helps greatly in the decision making process. I believe I will go this route...Thanks for posting!
Thanks for commenting.. I will post a second video shortly regarding the lower suspension… but basically I feel 100% more comfortable with the bike. Really transforms it. Go for it :) it’s a brilliant touring bike on the road! I can’t fault it now! I’m getting over 400kms on a tank … admittedly staying in the speed limit (100km/hr) and flat roads. I was getting 2.5 litres per 100km.

How tall are you ?
1:26
173cm (just over 5’8”) but it’s all about your in seam … 29.5”
@@thefoxnzwhats your inseam without boots? Mine’s 27.5. Do you think I can ride it? 😅
I have a similar in seam … and with reduced height is definitely more manageable. If you want an off-road bike they are all tall. You get used to it pretty quickly.
