How to ORGANIZE and set up your small garage woodshop!!
SO Beautiful ! WHERE DO YOU GET THE WALNUT....I looked up walnut on ebay and it's WAY more expensive than what you were paying I think
Thanks! Most of the time you have to get stuff like walnut from a local hardwood dealer. I’m sure there are some places that will ship, but I prefer to see it before I buy it anyway.
Glad I watched this. I did my first set of stars looking at it from the opposite side and put them on upside down. Luckily I didn't carve it out. I'll just sand it down a bit to get rid of the pencil lines, restain, and try again. It's my first one. Thanks for the video.
You’re welcome! I have definitely put stars on upside down before! LOL.
I can’t seem to find the plans on your website, can you link them again?
The link in the description of the video will take you to my email newsletter form, which will deliver the free plans when you sign up.
Comunque alla fine mi è stato detto da vari falegnami che il noce canaletto è tossico
Belíssimo trabalho. Parabéns 👏👏!!! Ganhou mais um escrito. 😊
I dont have a table saw im bummed
I’m sorry to hear that! It’ll be difficult to do this project without one.
One of the things that made it easier for me was a metal star stencil instead of plastic, this way I keep the metal stencil in place and use my Dremel to carve out each star with no damage to the stencil.
I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!
Why would you use a jigsaw and THEN take it to the miter saw? Do those three seconds really make you more money? They make you look like an idiot.
I did it for safety reasons. My miter saw at the time couldn’t support a board that long.
Once you drawn your lines. Go over the lines with a dermal, 1/8th in deep. Takes 15 mins to do an looks better
Ok, thanks!
I want to make one with maple and walnut (no burning) with inlay stars. I have not figured it out yet but way harder than this.
Good luck!
Great job. You should be getting more views.
Thank you!
Nice looking coin rack.
Thanks!
I see you’re running your boards through the planer and then right to a glue up. I have the same planer but I get terrible snipe. Even after ensuring the in feed and out feed tables are flush. How do you do it? Thanks YT BeavWod
I have a helical head on my planer that helps a lot. I did a video on it if you want to check it out. You may also want to try a planer sled. Hope that helps!
When I made mine I used 1x2 boards. I also used a stainless steel stencil for the stars and a Dremel while the stencil was clamped in place. Much easier than the mylar.
Good tips!
What size was the walnut board you used?
I’m sorry, I don’t remember.
where do you buy the stain
Lowe’s
Sir what did u say the side angles were.
67.5 degrees
Great work, looks awesome
Thanks!
I just found your channel. I really enjoyed seeing how you make flags. Everyone has their favorite way. I've been making flags for several years and started with your second way. I used a flex shaft with the Dremel and it helped a lot since it's smaller and easier to hold. But since I have arthritis in my hands, it would take almost 2 hours to carve the stars. I had to stop doing it that way and got a Cricut and make a stencil and spray paint the stars now. I really loved the hand carved look, but just couldn't do it. I still scorch the stripes. The painted stars look good even though they aren't scorched. I sell them at the local farmers market. I may try the plywood method. Looks interesting. Thank you for your service!!! Happy Fourth of July a year later! 🤩
Thanks! I’m with you - using a Dremel for the stars takes forever and not worth it if you’re selling them. Happy 4th of July!
Amen!
Most boys are fatherless in this country, hats off to you🌺
Thank you!
Ah I remember that day for me. Was 12 years ago, but still fresh.
Thank you for your service!
I can relate.. I retired and now busier than ever with woodworking, 2 acres, 3 grandkids..when i was working that was easy in retrospect…😮😂😂❤
Haha. We don’t retire, we reload! “Go-getters” like us never quit!
Looks great - I like the grain.
Thanks!
That looks very awesome. I really like the way that grain looks. But most beginners can’t afford that much Walnut . Heck even I can’t afford that much Walnut.😂
Ha! That’s probably true.
TEACH Sheople TRUTH 🇺🇲 nice work
Thanks!
Both flags look great!! Semper Fi Brother! New Sub. Retired from the Corps in 03, and I'm retiring at the end of this month for good, hopefully!! I'll be doing both these projects to fill my time between cross country RV trips!
Semper Fi! Thanks for your service! How exciting to be in double retirement! RV’ing and woodworking sounds like an awesome retirement!!
@@patriot-maker Thanks for your service Brother!!
Were did you get the stencil? And awesome video👍
Thanks! I got it off Amazon. The link to it is in the description.
Great video! Was the stain that you purchased, solid or semi transparent?
Thanks! It’s a semi-transparent wood finish. Lowe’s item #1658611.
Woohoo 🎉
I've watched a few videos of making flags. Seems there's no one technique that fits everyone's fancy of how to. I like the first one you did best.
Thanks! That’s the beauty of woodworking - there’s many ways to do something.
I loved this. Thank you for sharing. I am trying the harder one today 🙏 I knew you were military before you said it. Hooah! I'm an Army veteran .
Thanks! Have fun! And thank you for your service!
Yea that wasn't complicated
Or save time and just do the math in your head and make one measurement and mark. The mental maths is easy 2+7=9; 7/8=14/16; 3+14=17 so 17/16, which is 1 and 1/16 so 10 and 1/16.
HAHA. “Easy”
@@patriot-makerQuick, how many countries in the world use these backwards measurements
It's called a fuckin calculater nerd
10+1/8
Almost!
1/6 off lol
All that work and you spray paint the stars on? That’s disappointing
Well, I certainly wasn’t going to Dremel them out again! That was brutal and tedious!
I couldn't see a y directions for cutting the lower pieces instead of trying to make square and cut angles. Thanks
I keep the lower pieces long so they’re safe to cut, then trim them flush to the back board with my track saw.
Best wishes in the new chapter of your life!
Thanks, Nick! And thank you for signing up for my email newsletter!
What are the name of the stains?
Navy Blue, Crimson, and white
Thank you
Good work great video
Thanks!
Don't be a square but be sure to use a square square
Haha
How do you recommend getting all the dust off before oiling it? Mineral spirits, water, or just air compressor
I like to hit it real good with an air compressor then mineral spirits.
What do you mean by the dimensions for the stripes? 15/16 X 8", are you cutting 15/16 off the Width or the Length, or please tell me what each stripe's measurements are , thank you
Does anyone know the exact measurements of the stripes, W-L?
The stripes are 1 5/16” wide. You can buy the plans using the link in the video description. They’re super cheap. And you get 25% off if you join my mailing list (link also in the description).
Thank you! I did by the plans!!@@patriot-maker
Fun .
Yes and a great learning experience!
As I watched this I was reminded of what a sargent told me prior planning prevents poor performance. Thank you for making this .
Ha! You’re welcome! Hope it helps!
Definitely maybe. 😊 This is my weakness. I build a lot of nice things. I just suck at marketing. And the things that I make that i think will move, don't. While some things that I make out of leftover cuts (like arrows), people love. It's weird.
It’s so hit or miss sometimes. You just gotta sell a lot of stuff and hope SOMETHING is a big hit.
Perfect, video......best iv seen, thx U...
Awesome! Thanks!
Thank you for some very good wisdom here.
Of course! Happy to help!
Maybe use propane instead of map gas. Map burns hotter ( huge difference in price also) propane $3 to map $10
Great idea, thanks!
