Hard Antler Hunting
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 ม.ค. 2015
I build interesting rifle platforms, test equipment and gear related to hunting and get out into the hill of New Zealand to enjoy hunting red deer, pigs and wild goats. New Zealand has an abundance of wild game which produces good organic meet which my family and I can enjoy.

What kinda of recoil reduction did it achieve? Do you think your position will be given away when shooting at animals like when shooting without a suppressor
@wellisnz I noticed it and believe it stopped muzzle jump a fair bit. In testing, DPT records an extra 15%, which I believe is correct. Adding 3DB of noise, so no issues there.
Hi Stan,i was just wondering if you would help me out with a question that i have please. Does the muzzle brake change the velocity? And about how much. I use a custom turret so will i need to order another one so i don't miss at 500yards etc. Any help / info would be appreciated I like your channel especially that you do alot of solo hunts and don't need to rely on anyone else just gets out there and does it.👍
@nakisteelo4761 thanks mate. I didn't get any velocity gain or loss nope. It's a good product that only added 3 DB to the shooter. 👌
@hardantlerhunting9691 thankyou for that I liked the idea but didn't want to get another turret. I hadn't even thought about more noise. I appreciate you sharing the info. Cheers 👍

Sorry for your loss definitely hard going though situation. But on the hunting front I know exactly where you were should of been an old willow not far from were you camped if you went to your left into the gut there’s a game trail that goes to the head of the creek you were glassing. And on the other side of that gut is good hunting as well. Your best chance though is the creek you dropped into we call south boulder carry on up there into the head waters good glassing up there
Thanks Hayden, appreciate the words. I glassed the small Boulder area and thought it looked good. I'd is spy a waterfall in the creek so went up the rocky shoot. Great place and good deer numbers. Really appreciate the tips and will be back in that area again one day.
I'm 100% in the .284 WIN fan club! I like the look of your stock too. 🙂

Try taking the back steaks back to front, works better for me
Thanks, I usually take a rope with me and hang the deer. The hill was 50 dehree slope as well so tricky. Had limited gear this time as I didn't expect to peg one. Appreciate the comment 👍
The left side you take back to front, but the right side you take front to back. That way the knife works the way it should.
Good stuff bro, that stag will be a cracker in a couple of years. When doing your backsteaks push in behind the front shoulder and keep on cutting up, you get a fair bit more backsteak
Still wanna work on that follow-through
What do you mean?
Mean. Wet and rainy are the best bush hunting days! You'd kill it in there with a well trained dog. Siddle heaven
@@snoop2477 haha yea. I've been told that a few times.
Great video! Definitely a nice build. Im looking at doing a similar build in 7prc. Did you look into the xlr 4.0 folder?
Thanks. Nice. I did a little but wanted to keep the weight down. Xlr seemed complicated in NZ
This bullet damage a lot of meet in a deer????
Yep.
Binge watching this now. Great series. Would love to know of some scopes youve tried and thoughts on them and what youd recommend?
@williamellis4628 thanks. Yea might have to have a yarn
Whats your thoughts on the 7prc? Im looking building a custom rifle?
Hi, It depends on what you are chasing. If its custom hand loads and velocity, than you can do better than the 7mm PRC. I think the 7 LRM, 7mm Blaser Mag and the 28 Nosler in a long action 3.6 OAL is much better. Also dont look past the older 7RUM. The 7PRC capitalizes on one specific Powder Alliant Reloader 26 which handloaders like myself have been using for years now. The older cartridges using this power are also benefiting from the same increased velocities. My 284 Win custom rifle in a 20inch barrel is 50-75 FPS behind the factory PRC. The PRC is marketed at the off the shelf hunter still using factory ammo in a 3.4 OAL rifle not a custom rifle builder. I hope this helps and Ive attached a video I made which talks about the 7PRC. th-cam.com/video/9rlKgU2_II8/w-d-xo.html If you going custom build on a long action, if you want a short action build a 7SAUM. For myself I like low recoil so stick with the 284 Winchester or 280AI in a long action.
Great video Stan. I enjoyed your filming of nature and being able to observe animal interactions. Good size doe for the freezer as well.

@jeffreywilson690 that's cool man 👌
FWIW I’ve hit quite a few feral horses with the 208 ELD-M, at distances of 100m (x1), 400-600m (many), a few to 800m, and just shy of 1000m (x1). Everything short of 800m went down near instantly, but the furthest walked off a ways before he went down (the shot was good - broadside vitals - but passed through). I won’t take a shot now if it is beyond 800, but to be fair - that’s usually an unreasonable distance anyway. 300 Norma Mag at 3180 fps.
Well done and why not…👍👍👍
@@CLAWN76 cheers
I have shot close to 150 animals with rifles using all kinds of hunting bullets, ironically i started using ELDMs and have had the exact experience as you. On average that bullet has created the shortst tracking jobs I have experienced. Most animals having made it passed 10 yards or so.
@brandonurbaniak1890 good comment mam
I tried the eldm on mule deer twice, because my gun shot them so well. Both times the deer was knocked down on impact and then got back up and ran off with very little blood to follow. Both deer were recovered, but there was some worry of losing the animal. I switched to the eldx after this and haven't had any problems.
6.5mm? Weight?
@hardantlerhunting9691 6.5 Creedmoor. Both shots were over 400 yards, that might have played into it.
@@garrettsorensen3367 Yep, the 6.5mm caliber starts to struggle with larger game weights. Fine for whitetail sized deer but lacks the diameter for elk sized. What i mean by struggle is if the projectile placement isnt perfect it results in a delayed kill. You will find the same issue will come out long with the eldx even worse. If you have a look at my channel I have run low velocity loads with the eldx to test expansion etc. Ive attached a video of mine showing a deer kill with 6.5 at 725 yards . th-cam.com/video/2qimqqq1Q3g/w-d-xo.html

I've had better with the eldx so that is what I will stick with until it proves otherwise. I love talking hunting and seeing what is working and what isnt for hunters. Thanks for responding to my post.
Been using the 180 and 225 gr eld-m. Both are great rounds for deer and elk. They behave much better than the eld-x bullets and hold together better,
Nice man
Rate the speeds you get with the long 284, so efficient! Just loaded a ladder with the 180eldm for my rem mag will be happy if I get 2950 which doesn't say much for it compared to the 284 haha
Thanks mate. I'm on a 20inch barrel as well. Nothing wrong with the faithful 7RM mate.
In .224" i mostly used 55gr eldm for whitetail deer or 73gr for whitetail deer and black bear. Hoping to get my hands on some 77gr tmk or might dabble with 80gr eldm. The 75gr bthp match performs very similar to the 73gr eldm. In .264" i used the 140 and 147gr eldm for deer, bear, bison, and whatever. I have no issue using them for any land mammal in north america. In .308" ive used 208gr and 225gr eldm. I find them to be a bit much for everything I'm killing. Ive loaded 168gr eldm for friends in 308win and 30-06 for whitetail deer, black bear, and moose, and they all seem pretty happy about performance.

Personally I use the eldx with great success but i only shoot out to 500.From what i have heard and read the eldm is probably more accurate however the eldx works for me.
The X is probably a better bullet for Bush stalking and close range. The M just expands faster and better at lower velocities but the down side to that is it blows up in the animal when above 2600fps. Good stuff. 👍
@hardantlerhunting9691 the x is good at longer ranges, at close like bush stalking it blows to pieces like ballistic tips.Their are better bullets for bush stalking.
@nakisteelo4761 interesting. I guess the SST or barnes is better in the bush. But no one like the BC on those projectiles haha.
