FINAL HUNTS of the 23’ | 24’ Quail season!
Last video of the season! I appreciate all the support and feedback during this season and can’t wait to show y’all more next season! I want to take a second just remind everyone to never take this for granted, there are people in this world attempting to take this from us every day. It’s sad and the older I get the more I realize that we have such a special thing being able to run our bird dogs and chase these birds we love. #birddog #gsp #pointer #pointingdogs

DIY Bird Dog Boots | Cheap and Easy!
มุมมอง 3.5K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome back! While we were in Montana we ran into a problem of the dog's pads ripping. We ran the pups hard the first couple of days which led the dog's pads to be extremely sore and torn. We did some research and came upon this idea from other channels on TH-cam! I hope you all can use this someday and it saves a hunting trip! Here is a step-by-step video of what you need and how to make them...

That’s awesome well trained dog
Based on this video, I am hunting WAY too thick of cover here in SC. maybe that’s why I can’t find any birds
I think it just kinda depends on what they have, in this video I was hunting some areas with great habitat but in years past I hunted thicker areas that hold birds too. I think it’s all about food and cover and these places had a ton of food in certain places that held a concentration of birds!
Do you raise your own shorthairs or who do you get your dogs from? Great dogs with lots of natural instincts and style.
No sir I don’t, both of my shorthairs were purchased from breeders that aren’t breeding any more but chip my younger shorthair has a lot of blood from some lines in Georgia. My pointer comes from Iowa out of hackberry kennels. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoy watching you.... I quail hunt in SC
I appreciate it! You know the struggle and feeling of the occasional success then!
O yes... I have 4 dogs 2 Pointers, 1 english setter and 1 red setter... they are young and I keep them under control...
It always very gratifying to watch the progression of a young dog!
Yes sir it is!
Awesome video brother. Love how you let quail hunting speak for itself, you put no cut on it. That’s why it’s beautiful, simple, pure. Congrats on the baby.
I appreciate it man. I wish I could truly show how special a good quail hunt is, I’m just trying to get as close as I can when I show y’all.
I hunt wild bobs in central and south Fl. It’s a sport of little glamor but finding a covey or two is all you can hope for, and that makes the day good. Whether you kill or not. I have a 4 year old GSP female reminds me of your girl. She’s really coming to be great. Waiting on a pup from standing stone spring 25!
I know the feeling, a covey or 2 a day is a great day. Standing stone has some great dogs. I went to a seminar up there a few years ago. Good people!
None of the public ground I've hunted so far has been bare like that. The briars seem to be getting my dog's feet tore up. I'm considering putting boots on her if I have to keep hunting that stuff. The fields I have been on are so shoulder tall. Back in CA along rivers I've valley quail and Pheasants get up out of similar stuff. I don't know if it's worth my time with the Bobs though. The grass you're commenting on almost looks like knee high Sharpetail habitat.
I hunt a variety of habitat, I think they just have to adapt to it and build up a tolerance on their pads. I normally hunt thick, briars but have found a little different habitat this year!
What battery pack setup are you running? I'm tired of stopping to change batteries on my GoPro 10.
I use a battery pack and run a cord from my vest to the go pro with a battery covert that has an opening on it.
Was that bird a sage hen???
First bird shot in vid SURE looked like a pheasant!!!! Was the season open?????
Thanks for the concern but they were sage grouse. Thanks for watching!
If you have a sharp weather change from cold to hot during the hunting season or from hot to cold during nesting season I have seen birds use a lower level limb on a tree.
It definitely threw me off! I’ve seen it up in Kansas after a covey has gotten up but never that early in the morning. They could have been busted up the night before.
Great hunts bud love the dogs man congrats on the baby too
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Good video beautiful dog amigo
I appreciate it man!
Do you teach your dogs woah
Yes I do but I let the birds teach the dogs to stand first then I will start teaching woah as they get through their first season and get some experience.
Looking good man!!
I appreciate it!
Coming along for sure! He’s way ahead of most 6 month old pups I’ve seen. He’s got them long legs coming in too. He’s gonna be burning up the grass once he gets that confidence.
Thanks man, we’re just taking it slow and looking forward to next season with him!
Great progress! You’re going to like seeing that poker straight 12 o’clock tail, whether he pointing or backing.
Thanks Ron, I’m really enjoying watching him work and figure things out. That little tail is a pretty thing to see over some bluestem!
Is your dog snake broke? Mine grabbed a quail out of a gopher hole on training day. Now she checks them.
I’ve never done any formal snake avoidance but I’ve had encounters in the woods and stimulated the dogs when they were near the snake. I have seen wild birds go in gopher holes this year so I don’t really know the solution to keeping them out of them. I’m just careful when I get in an area with a lot of them.
Thoughts on open toes with crusty snow? The crusty snow is tough on the webs and around the toenails, I could see snow getting packed in and causing issues.
I would think actual boots might be better for that. I’m not sure how the inner tube booty would do in the snow as wet as it would be. They are great in sandy environments but again haven’t tested them in snow.
Good video. Where y’all from. SC?
I’m from Florida, my buddy lives up in Kansas. Thanks for watching!
Where in Florida is this?
Boy, he’s a sharp rascal! Did the name originate from Waylon’s song?
Thank you! No sir, we actually named him off of the road we live on!
wah
Nice to see someone else hunting wild birds in Georgia, I wish I had the patience to self video!!! Been hunting Georgia for 20 plus years so I feel your struggles and understand the joys when it goes well, thanks for sharing the videos
Thanks for watching. The struggle down here makes it all worth it when a covey gets up in front a pup on point!
Good stuff
Thanks Ron!
That dog is going to be a dandy.
Thank you sir, I’m sure going to try and give him as much opportunity to become a good pup!
nice to see bird dogs work, even if they are not Brittanies. :)
I appreciate it! I love a nice Brittany too!
Thanks. I enjoyed the video.
Thank you for watching!
Great work. It's been a struggle for me to find birds this year.
Thank you, it’s been a little tougher than normal down here this year. Conditions seem to be super dry.
@@countincoveys Agreed! I went to the Barbour County WMA and put in about 12 miles and didn't find any birds. Rough day!
@@haydenhicks80that’s rough man but you’ll get ‘em!
@@countincoveys yeah i will...just gotta keep putting in the work. Hoping to ease across the river and hunt around Blakely soon.
He sure knows how to point with his tail.😊❤
Nice video. Exploring new places and figuring out the habits of its birds is part of the fun. Glad you made the MT trip. I had to cancel mine due to my dog's injury.
Did see your comment until just now. For sure, it’s all part of the game and I’m just glad we had enough time and bird contacts to allow the dogs to figure it out. Sorry to hear that!
Great video he's gonna be an awesome bird dog love his personality
Good to see a true wild quail hunt. I'd rather find 1 wild covey than 10 pen bird coveys
I’m right there with you. Thanks for watching!
I’m from St. Clair county Alabama close where the Appalachian mountains begin actually and I’ve always thought the Florida panhandle was so cool looking in those pine thickets. The problem is I HATE snakes and I’m terrified of them. It’s my one true fear. And I know Florida as well as south AL and south GA are full of the most poisonous kind- Eastern Diamondbacks. And I’m even more afraid of gators. A lot of cotton mouths down there too. How do you have that kind of bravery? Lmao what would be your advice for me? Cause I’d love to explore the appalachacola forest one day. I imagine some kind of tough, high cut boots, that would stop fangs from entering.
I think everyone that hunts down here knows they are here and we are just cautious. When the temperatures start to rise and the sun starts beating down I take it a little more cautiously. You can wear snake boots as well. I just don’t let it stop me from getting out there, if you do then you will never go.
If you are hunting GA early season you may consider bringing your snake boots. I have killed more this early in the season than I ever have before.
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll be running dogs this weekend.
Great video brother. I say 4 covey finds is a dang good day. I’ve never found more than 2.
Thanks man. It was a fine day! I like pulling the trigger but I like watching them fly just as much. Thanks for watching.
Nice!
I appreciate it!
It will be fun to watch the progress. I have two dogs from Bob that I have trained myself also. I’ve been very happy with his dogs.
Good to hear! I’ll be posting progress updates on here. Thanks for watching the channel!
Glad to see you found one
Yeah man, I’ll give you a call soon and tell you a little about how I ended up finding him.
Pointers are the fastest maturing bird dog breed with lots of run and stamina, in my opinion. Good luck with Clyde!
Thank you sir.
Do you having a pigeon coop? Good looking dog.
Yeah I do! I have a small coop and have 8 trained pigeons!
I had trouble in the past with the inner tube booty riding up on the dog’s wrist and not protecting the pad on steeper ground. Any thoughts? Did we use the wrong diameter inner tube?
We used it the whole trip and we didn’t have any issues. I think it’s important to have the athletic tape on the dog first then make sure the second layer of tape is sticking good to the tube. And make sure it’s under the pad on the back! Hope that helps!
I’ve been wondering how these were made! Thanks for the video
Love this method, it really saved us and it’s easy!
Nice video, enjoyed watching!!
Thank you for watching! I enjoyed creating it and making those memories!
Awesome video, snipe season can’t come soon enough
I appreciate it! Can’t wait for everything to open down here!
Don't worry, I'll be taking care of that peach on your wifey when you're dicking around in Montana
Love your videos my friend. I like that you just go out and record what happens. I hunt public land quail in Fl and its tough stuff. Id like to go to Kansas one day and watching your videos gets me pumped up. How long was the drive from Ga to Montana?
I appreciate it! I actually live in Florida, that’s where I do most of my hunting for wild quail. Kansas is pretty awesome! It was about a 33 hour drive I think!
Oh cool, wild bird hunters in Fl are rare so I appreciate the struggle. 33 hours is a haul. I travel to the UP for grouse and woodcock every fall and road trips with dogs is a chore. Enjoy yourself bud, hope we cross paths in the Florida flat woods one day.
Great video. I like how intentional you are about reserving your shots for only when it’s beneficial to the dog’s training. Being a southern public land hunter I know you share the feeling that every wild bird contact is a treasure and best used to the dog’s benefit. Good stuff
I appreciate it. No doubt, I take every bird contact as an opportunity. I think later on in the dogs life is when it pays dividends. Thanks again man.
Nice!! I must have been the one lucky guy that didn't find a Porky in MT!🤣🤣 That or I just didn't spend enough time there!!
Thanks man! We almost made it through the whole trip but couldn’t get that lucky 😂
