Burnt out & abandoned, the old manager’s cottage at the Duck Reach Power Station, northern Tasmania
มุมมอง 275หลายเดือนก่อน
The 125 year old cottage built in 1895 was burnt out and left abandoned in 2011. It was originally built for the old Duck Reach power station manager and was occupied until around 1955 when the power station was decommissioned. The property in its derelict state was recently on the market for $3.2 million.

Third flight with the new DJI Neo, cinematic flight on a calm sunny day. There’s good and bad reports on the quality of the small camera on these tiny drones, I’m finding it very good and smooth in Cine mode, currently set to 1080p 60fps.

For a dirt cheap budget drone the DJI Neo is pretty impressive, flew well in light winds today and the video and photos are reasonable for a small camera. Bit of fine tuning of the settings and it can only get better.

Beautiful! Love your eye. How fortunate we are here in Tassie. Merry Christmas to you and yours ✌️
Thank you and wishing you a Merry Christmas to you and your family also. ❤
Wow didn't realise it was that bad. It's recently been sold
@@kerriharper9015 it’s still sitting empty sadly.
Won't be for long I hope, I know it's being fixed up soon as it has sold. I live in musselroe so it's like just pit the road from me lol
If you're not speaking, remove the original sound! We don't need the sound of the wind in the mic
Thanks for the feedback.
Fairly sure it was confiscated as proceeds of crime, when Chinese businesses men were convicted for money laundering. Correct me if that isn't the case.
Yes correct, it was taken by federal police, it was tied up in a multi national Chinese money laundering syndicate. Not sure what its status is now.
Wow. This really something unique.
@@theRowdyHiker sadly it’s days are numbered, the beach is slowly consuming it.

Soooo sad! Realistic prices for such a worthy project would be welcome!! The government should really be stepping up here 😓
Beautiful - $3.2m ? Could be on the market for a while ...

Its heartbreaking to see these beautiful, historic buildings decay. Thankyou for the video. From a fellow Tasmanian. ✌️
Thank you for watching. Sadly it’s been like this as long as I can remember.
Yes it sure is, sometimes seeing this is preferable to seeing the bulldozed site after the fact 💙 Toni, surely we know each other? Not in person, but from the community that supports Ukraine? Sorry if I'm wrong 🌻🙏

Cool 👍
This was a mining town back in the 1950's when I visited as a child with my family. In the 1990's, it was a bit of a 'hippie' community, but bushfires seem to have taken a toll on many of the buildings.😢
It’s all but abandoned now, there’s one permanent resident still living in what’s left of the town.
Similar situation @ Rossarden, I believe.😢
I visited this in ~2018. It was a great experience & now so sad to see its demise. Such a waste of taxpayer funds to see it abandonned & rotting away.😢
I think it still sits empty to this day, there’s heaps of talk about doing something with it, but nothing has happened as yet, it’s probably in worse condition now.
Unlikely that NE TAS would need another golf club/resort. There's a hugely popular one @ "Barnbougle" in the Scottsdale area.
I doubt a golf course where this place is located wedge overly successful, it’s too far from any real population.
Hi, where is this located? I’m situated in northern Tasmania.
@@conorandharriet hello, unfortunately I can only give a rough area to protect it, it’s in north east Tasmania.
@ Hi, thank you. I understand 😊
They can’t do anything about it, this place is going through court atm the federal police have it and it prompted to go on it the people who owned it aka Chinese people stole millions from it the police found millions of dollars in the walls of the place
I was in there yesterday
It’s such a gorgeous place but also such a waste of a gorgeous place
I just visited yesterday, and holy shit it is destroyed, I saw a needle I didn't want to pick up, I saw metal balls above the broken parts of the roof, I saw all kinds of drinks, with a noose (Suicide) knot at the front. It is insane to think how people don't care about old things.
1 other thing is the airstrip, to this day, it still looks like it is being attended too.
It’s sad that people are using it in this way , unfortunately it has a chequered past and I think its future isn’t much better.
@weirdpersonwithacat1165 I did think that about the airstrip the day I was there, it’s still in very good condition and looks used.
@@TassiephotographerYeah, I am about to go back there now, as I dropped my AirPods there, but that for sale sign seems to be replaced, or something. I hope people start treating this place a little better, as I lived in the region. But I when I go back, I am gonna see if it is possible to see the cellar.
@@TassiephotographerYeah, at the other house, there were trash bags and movement inside, so I didn't end up going towards there.

Hi yes Storeys Creek.
wheres this at?
@@TND-8.8 sadly it’s long since been demolished I believe, it was in St Leonard’s Launceston.
@@Tassiephotographer alright thanks mate
Sorry but to my eyes the house is terrible, the layout is awful, the roof is ridiculous, the bedrooms look like prison cells, the bathrooms are cold and uninviting, the way the stair leads to a closed door, how dark the room with the gable trusses is. Not a luxury mansion, really just a huge barn. It's a bit surprising that the place hasn't been scavenged for the good stuff like the off peak heat banks, radiators, floor boards (is it Tas oak flooring? ) Have the pavers been looted?
@@einfelder8262 it’s def not everyone’s cup of tea, it a house you either love or hate. Nothing has been scavenged yet, it’s just sitting there empty.
Nice flight the neo looks alot of fun 😊👍👍
Thank you, yes it’s a cool little drone and fun to fly. It’s a little more challenging getting smooth video from something so tiny.
there are time limits regarding legal proceedings for property confiscated due to money laundering in Australia. Here are some key points about these limits: Forfeiture Proceedings: Under the Proceeds of Crime Act, there are specific timeframes within which the authorities must act. Generally, the AFP must file an application for forfeiture within three years from the date of seizure. Criminal Charges: For criminal charges related to money laundering, the statute of limitations is typically 12 months for summary offenses and no time limit for indictable offenses. This means that serious charges can be pursued indefinitely
Absolutely unbelievable…….
Brings back so many beautiful memories. Thanks
It’s a beautiful place, so much history .

Awesome!👍
well that was shit
i went there once back when it was still open to the public, bout 2006 or so
Same for me, probably about 10 years ago when it was still in its prime.
it’s nice they still have power poles, but would it still work? i guess do other wise they would move them wouldn’t they? great video :)
I’d day it’s been many years since power was connected to this building, I reckon the old wiring would be well past its use by date.
Yes the power lines are live, people still live in that one house.
Now I'm crying floods of tears! I spent a lot of time in Tasmania in 2019 visiting with my kids and deciding which part of Tasmania to move to. I'm in country NSW but I have always wanted to live in Tasmania but unfortunately the pandemic put to rest the plans I had back then. Reading comments from the people who worked on this house and their despair at the state its in now just breaks my heart. I hate seeing beautiful homes become ruins because the owner wants to go to the next big thing (golf and a resort YUK) and I'd give anything to have a chance to restore it and have animals grazing and food growing in the gardens. There's SO much homelessness, and Tasmania is doing pretty bad in that respect, that we should be keeping foreign nationals out of our property markets and giving your average Joe a chance at the Australian dream. As an Indigenous Australian, it hurts seeing country being abandoned in this way. What a gorgeous ruin, but it should be so much more! Thanks for reading.
Clever. And subtle. Annie 🐧
ps. looks like there mighta been some Fenshui involved in the layout ?? (inc.) tennis court rectangular pond ?? etc...
