I switched to Dorico after years with Sibelius. I'm really happy with it, but I find it a bit underwhelming to discover that they didn't fix ties and times signatures in 4 years. Although these are minor issues and relatevily easy to work around, I'm really hoping they're working on it.

Hi Andrés! I loved your video and I wanted to ask you, having listened to your score at the end of the video, why not adopting a DAW such as Cubase which offers lots more features. I love Dorico and use it all the time, but ONLY when I know that I will have to rely on musicians to perform. If this is not the case, Pro tools or Cubase are way more powerful and accurate. What do you think?

Hi there! I haven't upgraded to Dorico 5 yet, I'm on 4 at the moment of writing this. See some of the comments below that the actual @dorico account mentioned about some of the things I mentioned in the video. Inserting beats and changing time signatures in the middle of a piece got improved. Adding dynamics in the middle of tied notes it still something that I just can't get used to and that's how the program is. It's really not an "issue". Short answer, is yes, you can add hairpins and dynamics in the middle of tied notes but I can't get used to that. It's not very efficient in my humble opinion. The other programs do a much better job with that.

It's a refreshing change to find a video that explores Dorico's weaknesses as well as its strengths. Could you say a little more about what you have in mind when you say that a DAW has "way more tools" for shaping the sound? As a Dorico newbie my impression is that it has the tools, though they are not so easy to use. But I don't know that much about DAWs either!

Hi! I've been quite busy with work and haven't checked in detail the latest update. I've been using Dorico 4 and they have improved the way of adding and changing time signatures in the middle of the piece. It's more stable. Video engine seems better, although you might run into problems if you try to upload a file with high resolution. The solution is to have your video files relatively in low res before loading in Dorico. The ties... that's just how the software works... which that's linked to how you enter dynamics on tied notes. Even though you have ways to do that, it's just not efficient compared to the other programs.

Thanks a lot Andrés. How does Kontakt behave compared to Halion SE? I was watching John Barron’s tutorial for creating expression maps and playback templates and he said Halion playback template fills in all the corresponding instruments automatically when you switch the playback template to it but for Kontakt instrument you need to fill them in manually. Do you have this situation when you switch to Cinewind playback template? Is there any particular area of differences between the two sample players (Halion SE as Steinberg native plug-in and Kontakt as generic sample player) that you can point out? Also about DAW being easier for CC data copying and pasting compared to Dorico, do you know if they improved that in Dorico 4?
