Aye!! I think I that was me in the other boat in the backround near the start. :) Eastern Patches?
Might have been! I went a bit further than that but did have a look around on the way! I hope you caught more than one fish 😂
Hey brother good to see u back with another vid. Cairns is beautiful and plenty of good fishing grounds so I look forward to seeing ur up and coming adventures and what u get upto. Merry Christmas 🍻
Thanks mate ! Merry Christmas to you and your crew too 🍻
Hey great to see you again! I hope things go well in Cairns, Merry Christmas n all that... you're looking healthy and active... 😃
Hey thanks ! Merry Xmas to you too, catch up soon!
welcome to Cairns mate and hope to see some great Cairns based fishing action!
Hey thanks mate! i'm looking forward to getting amongst it 🍻
Good to see your still alive and back with a new video.
Yeah still kicking! 😁 Catch ya next vid!
💪👌
Nice 👌👏👍
Nice job 👌👏
Thanks mate 👍
What kind of reel are using?
I've started using the Penn Slammer IV 6500 with 50lb braid and 80 lb mono leader on a Ugly stik bluewater rod. 22kg of drag on the reel so it's been pretty much catching everything I want it to! awesome reel!
What knot do use to tie the squidtrex?
@@MrLoveAmanda21 im a bit lazy and I've just been using a heavy duty snap lock clip. So I go braid line to nylon leader then clip
Hey mate do you upgrade hooks or just send her down off Temu?
Just been sending, probably lucky I haven't caught anything big! I was going to upgrade the hooks but the ones I bought were hand tied on so not so easy to replace, I didn't really like the design for that reason, you could re-tie and change the setup to upgrade hooks, i've just been slack 😜
Nice video
Thanks Mate, appreciate it :)
Vac sealing your fish is 👌. I do the exact same thing keeps them as fresh as when you put them in 👍. Just dont write with sharpie over the fillet part of the bag it seems to go through the plastic and onto the fish. White lables or along the seal edge is where i lable the bags.
Yeah that's a good tip! thanks mate 🍻
Those occy jigs with the skirt are awsome. They are called many different names deppending who sells them. Tai rubber, kohga, baku baku, kabura just to name a few. The traditional way i seen them used is the weight and skirt can slid up the mainline seperatly. They are attached to the mainline with assist hooks. I fish shallow and use a running sinker rig with the skirt on the leader to flow in the current. This modified way seems to be working very well for water under 15m.
Yeah I've only just started using them but I'm definitely a fan!! I will have to try rigging it as a running sinker with the skirt on leader like you've suggested! I can see how that would work well! thanks for the tip 🍻
@saltyseadogs4422 i think with your style and deeper water, you want the more traditional rigging way. Braid to top shot (if you use braid). Top shot to the swivel connected to a leader. On the leader, the colourful ball weight + skirt so they can move seperatly but slide freely. The leader attached to assist hooks maybe add a lumo bead to protect the leader knot at the hooks. I am pretty sure they use those float stopper rubbers and not a swivel, but i would want to reduce line twist if possible. I only fish the running sinker on a dropper because in >15m your not really directly on top of the fish. We are casting to that drop off to not spook the fish. I don't get the full benefit of the intended design but i get a nice fluttery skirt attractant on my bait in the current. They work them like a super slow jig (half that speed again), the weight seperates from the hooks and skirt. As it falls the weight pulls the rig back together bumping into the brass skirt holder giving a click and grouping to the bait. So a click, then a octopus looking thing grabbing a bait essentially. Mostly the swell will give you a bit of action but high lifts and falls is the idea.
90% of the video is just watching somebody reeling in a couple of fish.
Well it is a fishing channel! albeit not a very good one 😆 no seriously though i'm all ears if you've got some ideas !! lay it on me 🍻
@@saltyseadogs4422 Ok well don't post so much footage of just winding the line in. All us fisherman know that part of it. Just cut to the chase and record from when the fish is almost at the boat. That would be my suggestion.
Alright well thanks for your feedback 🙏 and I'll do that on the next video👍
@@saltyseadogs4422 Tight lines fellas!!
Be careful spangled must be fair bit bigger than grassy to be legal. I love those longtail tunas. Great feed. Thanks for the video, mate.
Thanks mate yeah i'm kicking myself I didn't keep the longtail!
You threw so much bait back in water start cutting fish up I be lucky to 4 hole squid in a trip 300 baited hooks fresh fish on them lol
Valid point! someone else mentioned the same thing, i'll definitely do that next time 👍
Hey thanks for that, me ol' mate... watching you catch fish is nearly as good as the real thing... love that salty air
I think we are overdue for a fishing trip!
@@saltyseadogs4422 sounds great! I remember that special feeling when I worked on that ship in New Guinea... coming out from the harbour to the open sea... that special breeze... the smell of the sea air...
Better than what we got of evans yesterday. Paid $250/person on a charter boat that took is probably 1k from the bar and all we caught was tragg
Yeah right, ahwell,,, have to come up for a visit then :) Tragg are pretty tasty though!!
Yeah I ha e heard that I don't eat fish I just like catching them
Well done mate. Some nice trout.
Thanks mate yeah they saved the day :)
Those long tail tuna you called a bluefin are great eating
wonderful scenery, beautiful colours... I thought I recognised the skinny guy doing the fishing... mmm not sure.... 🧐
Not catching enough fish to eat, loosing weight :)
@@saltyseadogs4422 Haha that fish-pulling action must give you the best sort of six pack
@@GraemeBailey-k8i Maybe if I drunk less 6 packs that would be the case!!
It was a Spangled Emperor champ. Not a Grassy
Well spotted :) thanks mate 😉
Another Awsome ep brother, at least the Spanish saved the day for some fillets in the esky
Good ole endangered Spanish was a welcome sight ! Thanks bro 🍻
@@saltyseadogs4422 hahaha bloody oath
Could not ask for better conditions. And nice jobby
It was ridiculous good hey! thanks mate appreciate ya! 🍻
They are great lures! getting bit off by a shark is not the lure's fault. Or your fault, it just sucks to have a shark around doesn't matter what you used for bait. I use mine in the Cape Cod canal in Massachusetts. One of the hardest places to fish on the planet and it kills it there. I have lost a few, but is what it is. We got bluefish, alby, bonito, and sharks but the lure takes a beating..great video nice fish!
Hey thanks mate, you're absolutely right! I guess for me loosing a hook and sinker with some bait is cheaper :) They do seem to catch pretty well though hey! Cheers 🍻
I know it is the worst feeling!!! We lost a 17kg wahoo the other week which was so sad!!😭😭😭
Ohh nooo! not a Wahoo! i've only ever caught one of those, they're so tasty! very sad day indeed !!😢
I know we brought it up the side of the boat on a gaff and it shook its head and well we all know what happened next…..😢
You had me screaming, fuk the chinman get that other rod hahaha, good times
Haha I know!! once I started editing and saw I thought the same! I died a little on the inside 🤣
wonderful scenery, love the whole vibe... I wonder what can be different over there for $20000 per night? Maybe they have tinned fish?
Hey thanks, well you get the whole resort to yourself, it is nice but not 20k nice :)
Nice trip bro.
Thanks mate, yeah not quite the fishing mission but everyone was happy :)
Lose that obnoxious music
Thanks for your feedback, could you recommend what music would be more suitable that you would recommend? Thanks
Hey brother Awsome ep, how’s the conditions for the day and a bloody good mixed bag of fish. Love the ending I feel ur frustration, happens to me all the time but it’s a good laugh 😂. Keep the content rolling. 🍻
Thanks mate, definitely lucked out with the weather! looking good this weekend too!
good video bro watched from start to finish, its not about loading up hey bro as long as you out there on the boats having fun its a good day maybe next time esky be full. still that's a good catch for 1 person
Thanks Bro appreciate the support, just as well it's not about loading up hey!! I'd be in trouble if it was 🤣yeah there hasn't been enough good days on the water for me this year! hope you and your crew doing good over there! i'm Looking forward to the next David Bulsey episode !🎣
hey you're looking great... as my Italian barber once said to me... "I see you'ra going-a bit-a blonde-a" ?
ohh that's the gray hairs 😂
Nice trip mate. I wish could have joined you out there.
Thanks Mate, Yeah we'll get there one day :)
Good to see u back out and about again brother, keep them coming 🍻
Thanks Mando 🙏
Hey :-) beautiful scenery even on less than sunny day... love your logo too... can almost smell the ... sea air...
Yeah we'll have to get you back out on the boat one of these days!
G'day boys I'm Paul good to see you got a couple not quite a feed but a great appetiser. Better luck next time. Watching from Lake Macquarie NSW.
Hey G'day Paul! Thanks mate yeah couple more would have been nice!
I reckon they are unreal! Got big coral trout, golden Trev, mackerel last time I went out. I find if you do a slow jig then pause, they like to hit it on the pause.
Yeah they definitely do catch! and you're right it wasn't until I stopped moving it so much then I got hook ups.
How much the depth when trolling
I don't think I did it properly, i was going too fast and I didn't hook on to the front ring so it didn't go very deep at all, so i'm not really sure how deep, I will have to try again and do it properly, I will let you know when I get a chance to do it again and find out.
Hey brother good to see u getting back out and about again, Awsome vid 🍻
Thanks mate! About time ey! 🍻
Hey! Everyone is looking good! Great to see you 😀
Hey thanks appreciate you being here 🙏
Welcome back mate glad you’re still alive and still fishing.
Hey here he is :) yeah thanks mate, haven't quite fallen off the perch just yet 😉 how S#&% has the weather been this year though!! 🍻
@@saltyseadogs4422 the last year and half has been one of the worst that I can recall for for sometime
Fk yeah welcome back bro. Been a bit between drinks
Aww thanks mate yeah tell me about it!! hopefully weather plays nice and I get out again soon!!🍻
@@saltyseadogs4422 just got my four stroke put back on so hopefully Dan will get hold of ya soon and we’ll go for a run.
Yeah we've been meaning to get a trip organised for ages hey! the stars will have to align to make it happen soon surely 😆 4 banger would be so good!!
This is a HORRIBLE institutional video
Yeah it's pretty shit ey :)
Hey mate, you have to do slow jig with squidtrek, watching your video youre doing the quick jigging and that squidtrek ain’t swimming the way its was designed. Also if you want to troll the squidtrek you have to buy the one with the extra ring that’s on top and in front of the present one. Good luck
Excellent advice thank you very much I appreciate it!!
Nomad themselves recommend speed jigging it as well to imitate a fleeing squid. These vibrate on the jig up, not on the fall.

Wow, la Sardegna è così bella!! Grazie
What size squitrex id that??
That's the 150 model (weighs 135 grams) 🙂
@@saltyseadogs4422 cuz i had order the 85 and its super small 😕
@@YDvette The sizing is in length in mm. The 130 is around 90-100 grams and the 150 is around 120-130 grams
@@muddpuppy07 Yeah I wish they would just call it by how many grams it weights instead of the length. less confusing
Did you tie your squidtrex straight to braid ? Or use leader ?
I always use leader, the braid to leader knots are a bit annoying but the leader is much stronger, braid will get cut very easily on some structure on the bottom or if it rubs on the side of the boat so always leader for me, and some of the fish i target have very sharp teeth so I even use metal wire trace also sometimes.
@@saltyseadogs4422thank you for the thorough response I appreciate it
Fish it as a dead bait, it’s very effective!
I did notice better result when it was still in the water not jigging or moving it around! thanks for the tip!
So you just cast it out and leave it alone? No jigging or moving?
@@lw3969 yep, exactly. I just let the movement of the boat do its thing.
