Turn your gas grill into a GRIDDLE - First SMASH BURGER
Have considered this but the filter has its' role for this specifically, other components "w/out" a filtering process may benefit from such an early service dough... just my thoughts🤔
Good point
It all comes down to use case. For those who just put around keeping RPM low and never really getting the oil hot, there will be little to no difference. Towing and such doesnt really make mich difference on motor oil either. That has more impact on the transmission fluid. That is unless the vehicle is struggling so much that it elevates the oil temp. Most trucks with tow packages have oil coolers that negate that. So for the most part any oil that meets spec will do just fine. The only ones who benefit from boutique oils are those with high revving engines, or those who race or experience enough load to severely heat the oil.
True
nice campground but I like a bit bigger sites,to close together for me to enjoy
The area is nice though
2013 Tahoe w/ 5.3 , owned since new. Ran Only Mobil 1. Now has 232,000 on it , running strong
Nice
Great video, Joe. Thank you for taking the time to record and edit. I need to do the same repair myself on my 2015 F-150 XLT.
Glad I could help…wasn’t too hard to do

You should run the PUP against valvoline high mileage or the extended high mileage. Run the pennzoil platinum against the valvoline advanced.
Takes a while to complete these tests…my initial thought is that there won’t be much of a difference…lot of marketing BS out there. Might just go get some Walmart oil.
Used vavoline for 15 years never had an issue. Always change at 5-6k
Frequency is most important
I'd say that because Amsoil is 100% synthentic and "full synthetic" Mobil1 only requires 25% synthetic to be allowed to use that label, and the fact Amsoil has a higher film strength and more robust additive package, Amsoil Signature Series is clearly the winner.
Not sure how you can say clearly the winner…wear components were similar. This only one sample run…and not at higher mileage interval, but I just don’t see the advantage to the higher cost oil at this time.
@whatyaknowjoe67 The wear is not at all similar. I use a machine to test film strength and the Amsoil wear scar is significantly smaller than Mobil1. Used oil analysis is largely a scam and doesn't represent actual wear. Only a machine can determine that. You can also go 10k+ miles on the Amsoil. I know people whose engines were falling apart and the UOAs showed average wear. Believe it or not, these tests are not very scientific and a waste of money.
Any test method outside the engine is just a simulation of what goes in inside the engine. Sorry, I’m just not a fan of amsoil…my opinion is it’s all marketing with little or no benefit.
Mobile one I change every 4000 miles
5-6,000 is good in my opinion
Did you do one or two oil changes per oil? I thinking it would be best to use two each to reduce and or eliminate cross contamination.
Just one…but let the oil drain for more than 20 min. Will be some cross contamination but expect it to be minimal.
I use the valvoline instant oil change service centers in Arizona. they only use valvoline products. I have never had an issue with there convert or synthetic oils. There oil filters hold up fine to. my monte carlo has 296,000 and I change it every 3,000 miles with conventional.
Frequency is important
Not too sure but I think when you use the normal eco cycle it doesn’t use hot water
Not sure…I’ll have to check
Max tow capacity for the 2.7l is 10.100 lbs. It is a very capable engine. Innovative in some ways. Based on diesel engine design.
You are absolutely correct, sir
I used Mobil 1 FS euro for the last 150 k miles. Oil analysis showed it was doing great. Recently they changed formula to comply with SP, now I’m getting excessive wear. Last I saw, Amsoil Euro doesn’t meet SP. Motul 1 for the win. I’ll know in 4000 more miles.
Keep us updated on the results
Imo oil is a person to person kind of thing. If you change your oil frequently and keep up w maintnance you dont need amsoil. If you are forgetful or just simply doesnt like to cha ge it frequently then maybe amsoil is the way to go. If you really like to change oil or you dont drive much then even conventional oil is good.
Good point, there are so many factors that go into deciding!
Sir, quick question, did you use 0w20 Ultra platinum in your 3.6L? Some folks online are making me nervous, they said I should use 5W-30 in my Wrangler with the 3.6
I’ve been using 0W-20 in winter months and 5W-20 in summer. Wasn’t a fan of the 0W weight oils initially, but that’s what the engines are designed for I guess. My son has a 2018 5.3l which calls out 0W-20. No issues so far at 120k miles
I get 5 gallon pails for the low low but I go though an independent retailer!
How much $$
And still change every 5000 miles that’s just for peace of mind to me!
Yes
I use shaffers supreme 9000 best oil I’ve tried yet?
I will have to try it…. What have you found to be better about it?
Should have done a water only control shirt
I didn’t in this video…but I did on another where I tested different brands of liquid detergent
Not real useful because you would need a second change to get an accurate number of the oil, so first time you use Valvoline or Pennzoil, there is residual oil left and it will skew the results quite a bit - Lake Speed Jr., the tribologist, proves this.
I did let the oil drain for at least 20 minutes when changing. I don’t feel that there is that much residual oil left to make too much of a difference
I can tell you that the test results between the two oils is within test method variability. Take your pick, just keep changing at 5K intervals. If you're running a GDI turbo engine like me, you might want to try the Valvoline Restore and Protect. I just switched after using Mobil1 for 50K miles with 5K intervals. I'll be checking the filter and oil quality after 5K using the Valvoline.
I’d be interested in your findings
I been using valvoline for a while now I have 120k miles on my Honda and when I opened my engine up , it was still very clean , no sludge or anything
Nice…no need for that over priced amsoil…checkout my video testing amsoil
Why was this even an experiment? It seems obvious that cold would win. Or was that part of the joke maybe? Not sure...
There is a myth that hot water will freeze faster.
@whatyaknowjoe67 oh I see. Good to know it's just a myth lol
Excellent video!!
Thank you
Been using Wally World oil for the past 10 years in all three of my cars. No issues at all. Changing your oil every 5K miles is 100 times more important than what brand you buy. Save your money.
Exactly!
I use to feel the same and then I tried shafffers supreme 9000!im stuck on this oil!
I've been trusting the 25 000 miles the Amsoil Signature gives for 10 years, and save even more money. All my analysis's come back A+. The key to it is using a good filter, that's 75% of the oil debate that none of these oil videos talk about.
@ Glad it works for you. I'd rather have clean fresh oil every 5K miles.
Amsoil just puts a ton of detergent in their oil that is why Dex will not approve it
Did not know that…interesting
No certification means you keep the recipe. You can modify the recipe and not hit targets. So many good oils today. Tough to go wrong with any unless you use M1 0W40 that is barely a 40 weight when new and then shears to 30W almost always.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to share with us. Much appreciated!
Thanks for watching!!
I’ve got 195k miles on my 2017 Elantra I bought it in 2017 with about 15k I’ve ran only Mobil 1 occasionally valvoline full syn if it’s on sale at Walmart .. I’m noticing now the Mobil one burns a bit more frequently maybe due to the high miles
I wouldn’t complain about 195k miles…sounds like Mobil One has done it’s job
@ definitely has no complaints here I’ve had a few issues but none engine related
Thanks for the video & hello from the UK. I bought one of these weather stations after seeing your review, thanks. I have a question: my weather station rotates channel 1, then 2, then, then 1 etc. Yours did not seem to do this, how do you stop it ? Thanks
Boy…it’s been a while since I have played with mine. Not really sure how to stop it. Anyhow, it has been a really good unit and I look at it everyday
Great video! I just purchased the same compressor, thanks for all the info.
Thanks for watching!
I pay $11.00 a quart
How long do you go on intervals?
I so agree with you !!!!! 🙂
Thanks
Ok I’m M m p I’m Mo I’m in Mo I’m Mo
Helfpful information, Thank you for sharing !
Glad you found it helpful!
nothing like Amsoil love it in all 4 of my cars.Oil analysis always comes back lights out !
Nice
Good job brother
Appreciate it
Amsoil. Amway. Pyramid scheme marketing tactics. They want their dealers to be overzealous, overbearing carnival barkers. I'd rather run the M1 EP or their truck and suv formula in my little Ford. Then, their robust euro ESP in a Golf R. I like M1's use of alkalated naphthalene in their API oils. Clean. Good solvency/seal conditioner and lubricant with the base oils. Their additive package numbers are deceiving because the chemistry behind it is more advanced. For the money, they make a good product. Just don't expect the performance to be leagues above the other companies.' They're all competitive. With only a little bit shorter interval, house brand synthetics achieve a similar result.
100% agree
I retired from ExxonMobil after 35 years working at one of the refineries. I’ve used Mobil 1 since the mid 80’s in all my vehicles. Never has an oil related issue with any. It’s proven well for me. Average driving towing boats and lowboy trailers sometimes. My two cents! Good Video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you
What was the price
On sale at Home Depot for $1100
I think you made a great video. It’s worth noting that you can work with a dealer to get set up with a preferred customer account to pay a fair bit less for the AMSOIL to begin with. The second thing worth noting is the money savings you would experience by extending your intervals with theAMSOIL. The AMSOIL Signature Series is good for 25,000 miles or even in severe duty situations, 15,000 miles. That is where the real value comes in. There are also benefits to running the AMSOIL filter which filters down to 20 µm at 99% efficiency. I appreciate the consistent oil sampling you have performed along the way. I do like a real world test.
Thank you
Thank you for your video, looks sharp. I'm going to be retiring next year. My home is on the NJ beach coast. Plenty of salt air and humidity. I plan on getting something similar to the husky you posted. Do they make one that is better on preventing rust ? Thank you for your comments / advice
Paint seems good…my old one was only 5 yrs old but held up well. No rust
I'll add I'm one of the lucky guys who lost a motor to the old pencil and will never buy from them again
Back in the days white paste on the cap
Guessing you ran mobile 1 first of the three and did not run a short run of anything in-between the sampled oils
Yes
I had a 1999 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner that I put 140k miles on with only a couple of batteries, brake pads, and a starter solenoid. Then I made the mistake of selling it and buying a 2017 F-150 XLT 4x4. It now has under 29k miles and problems with numerous error messages and codes. They might all be related to a bad steering rack, bad ABS sensor, bad wheel bearing, or another issue that will light up all of the error messages. Advance Trac, Service 4x4, Hill Asist Fault, Steering Assist Fault, and several others. The clockspring was bad and now replaced. I'll likely never buy another Ford again. Quality is job one. LOL I wish that I still had my Tacoma.
They all have their issues…Toyota is not immune…so far my F150 has been a pretty good truck…145k miles. Still drives like new
I use Costco oil, best deal anywhere. Just change it at 5k or one year, whichever come first.
Nothing wrong with that
Finally a more responsive transmission
Does seem to drop off some in the middle gears…but really good out of the hole
Your results are definitely within margin of error there's no difference. It may need a longer test. I'll have to try this myself.
Let me know your results
