I've been windsurfing for over 30 years, but any windsurfing spot that is adjacent to something called Shark Bay is going to make me think twice 😁 Yes I have a bit of a shark phobia ...
Preparations looks really serious! Thank you for showing us how you practice! I'm very emotional about Luderitz, you, and other woman who participate because there is just few of you who are ready to go all the way down the channel. You are great Vorbild/example and I will show you to the girls in our club. All of us who fall while speed run have some damage and bad memory, it is really painful, but to stop will be even more painful. I wish good race to you and all participants!
Thank you so much for your heartfelt message and your support!! That is really nice of you. It is a very dangerous discipline… each time one goes down the channel, so much can go wrong, and sometimes one can only learn through injuries and mistakes. But, like you say, the journey is so rewarding, one keeps on coming back to improve. Facing these challenges sometimes makes the rest of life feel like a breeze! Thank you for your wishes for this year’s event 🙏😊🤟
Very good job. Congratulations 🤙🤙🤙
Thank you so much!! 😊🤟
Какой у нее рекорд скорости был в этот раз? Девка крута. Так держать.❤
Ah thank you so much! Thats so nice of you. My record is standing at 44.6 knots… im hoping to kick it up a few notches at Lüderitz this year 😁🤟
That crash with spin-out and going through rig is insane. Rig stopped, passenger did not.
Yes, that one is really rough… the impact must have felt insane!! 🤯
Tuff going! So cool!
Thank you!! 😁🙏
Well done. I am at day 16 and 3 seconds on foil rides. Frustrating progressing so slowly but still loving it… mostly.
Algorithm showed me your channel a few weeks after I began windsurfing. First time in a harness next weekend. Inspirational to see what level you've taken it to. Best of luck and take care! Fingers crossed for you!
Wow, I love reading messages like this! So stoked that my channel has been a source of inspiration on your windsurfing journey! Thanks for your wishes ☺️✊

What wind speed?
The wind speed on a moderate day is 35 - 40 knots. On record days it can go from 45 - over 60 knots. 🤟
@@KarovanTonderJust last week Friday/Saturday night 107 kilometers per hour was recorded in the harbour area, the second highest since 2015.
EPIC!! Say greetings to Charl :) from Hendrik (Henne) / Norderney 🙏🏼
Thanks so much Henne!! Will do! 😊🤟
I’d be using a 1m2 sail 😂. Fantastic job, you’ve got guts to sail in such immense winds and a narrow channel.
Thank you so much!! ☺️🙏
Great compilation and an amazing Rocky montage to start off. That’s some hardcore training 💪🏾
Thank you so much!! 😊🤟
Windsurfing is the most exciting thing I've ever done in my life.
😊🤟
The guy that got slammed when his fin hit the bottom of the leeward bank would probably agree with you. 🙂 As well as the guy that bounced off the bank too. The sailors are definitely a little extreme
I thought you have to sign off that you don't post any footage of the crashes? Makes it seem too dangerous? ( That's up to debate)
Still really epic shit!
I think that you have heard a rumour.. that is definitely not the case! 😁🤟
@@KarovanTonderthat is possible!
respect Karo, it looks like you are fit and prepared, are you going to sail at AV?🤙
Thanks you so much!! 🙏😊 Yes, I will definitely be on AV.
dit is die beste kombinasie 😜👌
Not safe.
That depends on the conditions, the rider and the gear. Definitely not the safest sport around… But it’s very rewarding to push the limits of the sport!! 🤟😁
If it was safe we'd all be breaking windsurfing speed records. The boundaries of human acheivement are rarely pushed by keyboard warriors such as ourselves.
those crashes are next level sh..t . hellmen/women

@@KarovanTonder Good luck & top speeeeed without crash🤙
Karo you're a super Woman no doubt. Bravo!
Ah thank you so much!! 🤟😊
that´s one hell of a guy. love his dedication. makes me wanna get back into shaping. you can literally see the joy it bringst to him
those crashes are insane!
Brutal!!
Is it only me who thinks they need to make the channel wider - as it stands there's no 'room' for correcting an error!!!
No room for errors! The channel is currently about 7m wide. It would become too expensive and labour intensive to make it wider… Water gets pumped into the channel each day so it would also take too long to get the level high enough if it is wider.
Wider would allow more room to generate waves…
not wrecking yourself next time would be nice ;)
Hehehe!! No injuries would be VERY nice!! 😅👌
Good luck ! Waiting to see you on the course
Thank you so much!! 😊🙏
Wow insane crashes stay safe good luck 👍👍
Thank you for your wishes!! 🤟😊
What kind of speeds are you reaching? Are you using gps? Wow! And where is this located?
Yes, I wear a GPS Coros watch and a GT31 GPS as extra backup. The event also uses its own system to perfectly measure the speeds of the riders to make it official.. so in the end of the day you have 3 readings to cross reference. My best average speed over 500m is 44,6 knots, 2s peak speed of 47 knots.. To set a record, they use your average over 500m, so the little spikes in speed doesn’t count. This is what makes it extra challenging! 🤟😊
@@KarovanTonder Thankyou for the fast response. What country does this take place? I hope the woman that shown will be ok.

I just came to your channel and watched your first video - very nice and inspiring. It would be very nice if you could respond to my questions 😊 What about sharks in the lagoon? (I'm not a pro windurfer spending more time IN the water). What could be a good resource to find rooms to rent for 2 to 4 months? Many thanks and good luck from Austria.
That looks unreal ! So heavy .. How strong is that wind there ?
During the 5 years Ive been there, on a record day the wind can pick up to over 66 knots. A “light wind” day is considered 35 knots! 😄🤟
@@KarovanTonder Holy.... I always thought i'm "pretty ok" in windsurfing, i can handle winds up to 30-35 knots bla bla.... hands down, that what you and the others are doing there is absolutly insane!
@@gipeterpan845 I'd probably be using a 3 1/2 m sail in 35 knots of wind. Holding down those big sails in that much wind is wild. It's no wonder they use weight vests to keep things stable and under control.
@@wallymcguire2033 I use 6.2m² at 30+ knots - but trimmed to max to be not tooooo over powered. I try to use only 2-3 sails. Anyway, I really want to test a very small racing sail about 5,0 m² at high winds but I don't know anyone to borrow me one 😃
WEll done and good luck for 2024

Thanks for the in-depth review! I just ordered the Fox v2 95 and a Gasoil CHR X 32cm fin. Super excited to try it out and to use it at Defi Wind next year! Your Fox 95 doesn't seem to have cutouts (some earlier versions did). What is your opinion on that? You seem to be happy without the cutouts. I'm guessing cutouts would raise top speed but make it harder to control
You’re the 2nd pro windsurfer trying to wing foil video that I have come across. I didn’t know you were until I read your channel description. I must say I’m shocked at how bad you both were. If I hadn’t seen the videos and someone bet me, I would bet you guys would hop on and go. Thanks for sharing though. It is eye opening. For those of you wanting to learn or in the process, I watched a video that made a ton of sense. He said walk back and forth on the beach with the kite until controlling it and moving from side to side becomes second nature. The idea is you will then only need to worry about the board when you get in the water.
Rigging with no outhaul tension applied is exactly correct for a lot of sails. I'm an OG, from the earliest days of the earliest one-design windsurfer, that had fibreglass mast, a daggerboard, and teak booms. Hope you have the opportunity to try some of the other sail brands, too. Matching boom component sets, mast stiffness rating for the sails is critical. I'm thinking about getting out on my old F2 sailboard and Stinga slalom again, thanks to your inspirational videos.
What a story! Hope anyone who had an injury sees this can be inspired and has the best outcome possible. Rehabilitation is so important before venturing to attempt any new challenges safely. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
Thanks for sharing your journey. I recall hearing from a researcher who was working closely with post injuries, surgeries. She said that your brain quickly loses the connections to muscles. Proprioception, otherwise known as kinesthesia, is your body's ability to sense movement, action, and location. It's present in every muscle movement you have. Without proprioception, you wouldn't be able to move without thinking about your next step.
I've only just discovered your channel and your journey to recovery. Shared with my sister and my niece, so I hope they follow you too. Windsurfing is such a great sport. Hang in there! Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
Is there any difference in using a higher or lower boom outhaul on the Severne Glide 2/3? What exactly is the difference, especially for foiling? I heard that a higher outhaul is for strong wind, but I also heard that if you need more power, this doesn't make sense. Only one of these can be true. Please tell me which answer is right and what differences you could feel. How much power could you increase, percentage-wise?
2:14
What location is this?
Incredibly helpful! I was getting whipped around today in gusty conditions and I don't think I had enough twist. In overpowered conditions, how far down should you have a loose leech? I had only 2 battens down, but I'm guessing that wasn't enough
Great progress in a short time span! Bending my knees also helped a lot. It looks to me like your rear foot is too far back. I believe it should be in front of the mast. That would allow better weight transfer to the front leg which you need to level the board.
Super nice explanation about speed skills related with fins. Thanks very much :)
