Ford 6610 AP cab orbital unit and clutch replacement
Hopefully this helps someone. I didn't really know what was the best way to go around fixing this. It's all a learning experience. I'm still very new to a lot of these jobs I'm doing. Fords are usually straightforward enough though so we'll chance it.
If anyone in West Clare want's anything fixed, message me on Facebook and I'll see if I can do it. Older tractors. Engine rebuilds, clutches, front axles, brakes. All that sort of stuff. Can pick up and drop off too with the low loader.
I should probably advertise on Donedeal really....

Fixing leaks on the Same

Video of the 6610 mentioned at the start on the way tomorrow as well. This Same is kinda coming together now. It doesn't really leak badly anymore. There's the odd drop here and there that you'd expect from any old tractor but nothing I'm really overly concerned about. I'll fix those leaks before next summer. No talking, just a normal video as I used to make. Love this tractor for mowing. Supersteer is the bee's knee's. First job baling of 2024, recorded a few days ago. My 7810 is my baling tractor, it has done 90% of the baling with the last 2 years and it's great for it. @ORiordan124 You can get them off autosparky but they can be found cheaper elsewhere. Can't remember where I got it from. The horn is a hella highway horn. Solenoid is a proper high quality one from like airimpact.ie or someplace. Not cheap but the little cheap Chinese ones don't work at all. Screw in tail adapters, rubber fuel line and jubilee clips to connect it all together.
Hi Wayne. the Same is coming along nicely , we will have you converted over to italian tractors soon ??? moving silage bales to day with the 16090 nice fine weather over here to day, keep up with your videos as they are always informative
@philellwood4058 thanks Phil. Those big fiats are gone mega money over here now. Hard get them. They're supposed to be really good tractors too but I've no experience with them.
@@WayneMescal Year i am a Fiat man as you know , i have 2 16090 DT both are power shift , one is in need of a rebuild and the other is in very good shape , very strong tractors , but not as user freindly to use as your TM 160 , if you can find one to buy over here they are still cheep , around $ 18000 to 25000 nz dollars .
How do you rate same? Compare her to other makes
You won't get a better value for money tractor than an old Same. Just have to know how to work around their few problems like anything else. I wouldn't take a gift of a Ford TW compared to the Galaxy. Synchro gearbox, I'd guess a little faster on the road, brakes in the front axle and with the 30 inch front rims in combination with the mechanical front locking diff, it would absolutely walk away from the Ford for traction if you weighted it up. The problem with the Same is it probably just wasn't built strong enough. TW35 is almost a ton heavier. They're ok though. I always had a liking for them for whatever reason. Thought they were interesting. Different at least. Not everyone has one.
@@WayneMescalas I told you in a previous comment I used to drive a laser 110 and 150 for a contractor and done a lot of ploughing with them and they had great traction and I was very fond of them but we own a TW 10 ourselves and I love that old tractor as well

She seemed like a good mowing tractor would u buy a 7840
@LuccaThornton-y9r A 7840 sldp white roof would be nice yeah. The next tractor on my list though is a 7610 2wd. I have a cummins 6bt looking for a new home and I need another small tractor for square baling, tedding, wrapping and handy jobs like that. I've enough big tractors at the moment.
Well lad, I’ve watched your channel now the past 7 or so years. Great job on the Same, serious tractor…. What you make of the TM so far… and are you gone out on your own contracting? Good vids
@johndonohue4153 Thanks John, I see you've been commenting a very long time, thanks for sticking around, it's great to get the good feedback. Delighted I got the power issue sorted on it, can't wait to see what it can do now. The Tm is a nice step up from the 30+ year old tractors. Power, speed on the road, usability/comfort and simplicity of maintenance are all positive points for it. A lot of the lads I do work for have complimented it so I'm happy it gives lads a sense of confidence I can do the work when I drive into their yard with it. Only drawback is a decent yoke like that cost more than the Same and the 7810 put together 😕 Yep, have 3 seasons baling on hire done now. Was tedding for hire before then along with square baling and other odds and ends. Been shifting bales on hire since before had the licence just for kinda pocket money. It was the summer job that turned into a bit of an addiction 😂
Very well Explained video now lad I'd say your happy now to see her running right de rubin in the yard here tis the Sleeves she needs in the Engine that was the only thing that was bad with the rubins were that the Sleeves were not that strong ish we pulled out the 6.61 agrostar in around the back of yard here to she was parked and of course them Briars were growing up around her I got into the cab and gave it a good clean out now to chirst alot of Spiders in the cab and webs oh chirst she needs a cluch anyway and I opened up the dipstick their and water started coming out of it of course their was tape on the pipe but the tape broke off over time like ah I nealy think the yard is Becoming a brakers yard now 😂
@Paddy6.30 I'm sure Bernard Byrne combines or Andy Byrne will have an engine out of a combine to suit that agrostar if the original is beyond repair. Be worth saving that, they're a nice tractor, not seen many of the older deutz tractors in person. Will the Rubin be put back going? I'd be afraid it will nearly give more trouble elsewhere once the engine is sorted.
@WayneMescal their was one lad who said that to me about the agrostar I'd say we try getting the water out of her id say the water be In her for some time so tis more likely the Pistons could be rusted or sized she would have to be split anyway for the cluch job and as for the rubin she's always kinda gave the Trouble from the start now I think the father regrets buying her back then but he was lookin for something at the time so he did have to put 2 grand into the ecu for the links and when he was going off mowing with her it was like she was not properly set up so their was a young lad that did not really know what he was doing their we would most likely have to drop the Engine in her or try work around
@@Paddy6.30 Well if the sump was absolutely full of water up to the height of the dipstick at the very least and it was left like that for a long long time, I wouldn't waste time or money trying to rebuild that engine. Much less hassle get a combine engine with low hours and probably a bit more power than the original engine. Would probably work out a nice bit cheaper too I'd say to be honest. The Rubin is a similar story to my own Same. It felt like it was unfixable for so long and there was times I regretted buying it. I couldn't sell it broken, I'd have lost a hape of money on it so I always said I'll fix it and sell it immediately. Now that I have actually fixed it, I'm going to keep it for another year, just to let it earn some money back and then I'll sell it next year if I feel like it then. I'd love if ye were a bit nearer, I'd love to help ye sort both of them out. I'm doing mechanical work now over the winter but don't know where to find the work. After I fix this 6610 I'm doing at the moment I'll be at a loose end again.
Time d dozens of p type same engine the may be running better the pumps are set you did not time the engine to time engine of no.1 1 dial gauge on valve stem for tdc non turbo is .18mm before tdc cant remember turbo but can find out 2x gauge on pushrod to get when 1 valve open other close when neddle on 2x gauge rocks then tighten bolts on cam shaft also should change bearing in governor weights cant remember if 8 or 6 of them makes a good job of it oil pressure if new pump fitted sometimesthe relief vale spring maybe broken and will leave low pressure at lower revs simple engine great power / torque and easy on diesal
That's a completely different way of doing it to the way the book says to do it. There is a page about timing the injector pumps but you need the special tool from Same to do it. They don't give the spec for the distance the pumps need to be shimmed away from the cam. They give you a spec for that in the books for the newer 1006w engines or whatever they are called but not in the P series engines. The heights of the pumps were never touched so that should be fine anyway. The camshaft is fixed so adjusting the injection timing will automatically time up the valves exactly where it should be. The book said to work off cylinder number 2 so that's what I did but I presume that was just because it was the most accessible to be honest. Any cylinder would work, they should all be the same. They're a wicked simple engine, they're really a super design in fairness. It does have a new oil pump but I reckon the relief valve spring is ok in it, probably the shells are getting a little worn now, it's up on near 10,000 hours. Can't beat an air cooled engine for economy. Absolute misers!
Cam shaft isn't fixed m10 fine thread but 12mm holes in cam gear
Non turbo piston travel .18mm before tdc = 4degress before tdc can find out turbo measurements
PTO on 130 /110/100/90 had a damper in side on PTO pack not sure about 150/170 can find out

Same lasers were great tractors I drove a 150 for a contractor years ago and I loved it and would love to own a 150 myself at this stage
@@johnearle6667 I was on the lookout for a 150, never intended on a galaxy tbh. People say the 150 was the best tractor Same ever made!
@ I saw a very tidy 150 going through Cambridge machinery sales a few years ago and it sold for £6500 and I regret not buying it , the contractor I worked for had a 110 and a 150 and I liked them but then he traded up to an Antares 130 and a Titan 190 and they were junk .
@johnearle6667 That's a shame to miss out on the 150. Won't get that anymore unfortunately. Still cheaper these days than a comparable ford but still, they've gone up in price. The electronics in the newer ones let them down alright :(
That's one great video thanks man

@georgedoorley5628 Very little rust in this one and it's never left outside. Rival to your tw35 back in the day, a proper size of a tractor. I do like it quite a lot even with all the trouble it's given me.
@georgedoorley5628 what work you use the 100 for?
I think you need to pat yourself on the back for having ago at timing up the Same, kind of makes your mechanic look a little week , we may be farmers but we are also very capable of over coming problems, well done Wayne.
Thanks very much Phil, I'm delighted I solved it on my own. My dad runs the farm here I don't have much to do with it. I go out on hire baling in the summer and this is my first winter at home in 3 years, I'm usually over in your lovely country at this time of the year. I have decided to try being an independent mechanic at home this winter, just to see how it goes. Currently have a ford 6610 with steering issues in. Video next week hopefully!
@@WayneMescal Hi Wayne, thanks for the reply , yes things are at full swing over here in the ag contracting side of things . I should think you will do well with your workshop , just stay away from the late model stuff .As you can see i am not a big fan of new gear, any way all the best and i hope they pay there bills on time.
Good job on her, even sounds noticeably better on tick over on video. The 540 conversion was a good idea as well, done well to figure out parts would transfer across.
@endamcguinness2990 Thanks very much :) Didn't figure out I could do it until after I had it bought. It was the one reserve about buying the tractor only having the 1000 speed. Really limited it's uses. I saw it had the blanked place for a shaft and one for an idler the day I was buying it so I had my suspicions it was doable and took the chance and bought it. Got parts books afterwards and confirmed they coulda had 540 from new. Only problem was where was I going to get the parts because these are not common and they all came with 1000 only as well. It was a very rare option. Could have priced new parts but probably eyewatering expensive. Just so happened I took a photo of the back end of a buffalo in the local scrapyard a few years ago trying to help a lad find a levelling arm for his lift. Came across the photo on the laptop one night and instantly recognized it as the same centre section in the back end. Got the parts book for a buffalo, went matching parts numbers, bearing sizes and all that and most of them matched up. Only difference between the two is the Galaxy had helical cut gears and tapered bearings to suit, while the buffalo had straight cut gears and normal bearings. Worked out perfectly though. And at a fraction of the cost of any new parts. Delighted with that job.
@WayneMescal is still impressive to notice the simarities and do the research and get it all to match up still. Had a notion of a galaxy years ago but the no 540 and the 3 speed box put me off it at the time. The laser/galaxy is probably one of the best same ranges there is.
@endamcguinness2990 gearbox is a bit odd alright but at least it has synchros unlike a ford tw. These yokes wouldn't suit everyone, too slow on the road (32/33k), not as comfy, maybe not as reliable at times but a big old tractor like that suits my smaller workload, my smaller budget and my mechanical ability to fix it if it goes wrong. Cheap power. And I enjoy actually driving a yoke rather than pressing buttons. I got more enjoyment making the few bales at home with the 7810 than thousands of bales with newer gear over in New Zealand. The pride in having your own gear and knowing it inside out, even if it's not fancy, is a nice feeling.
@WayneMescal I don't think reliability will be a major issue to be honest they are a good going tractor.
@endamcguinness2990 I've it kinda gone through now so it shouldn't be too bad hopefully.

@@welshlad100a I'm invested too 😂 that Facebook page is a great resource for these lesser known tractors. I can't wait to get it sorted. The last few problems are very straightforward, just a few leaks and the hitch. We're on the home straight with it now! Thanks for the support :)

@@garyburke6410 Thanks, I always heard they had so many good points about them, I just never got a chance to see mine in action yet.
Your mechanic will now be asking you for future advice on things 😂 Top work
@ORiordan124 😂😂 I'm not so sure on that, he has a lot more spannering done than me in his time. I just really studied and understood what the book was trying to tell me, that's all.
My family has been doing 40 years SAME and we never had an issue with the 1056PT engine. I'm 20 years old and my first and most recent P engine I renewed was 4 years ago ( a mighty 5 cylinder from a laser 100). The only weak point on the P engine family is the oil pump in the 1st series of the engine (after 8 000 hours losing pressure, so please maintain the engine on time with new oil). I hope that the clearing distance between piston at TDC and the top edge of the cylinder liner is correct? If not you need to take of the cylinders again and adjust by correct set of gasket(s) between cilinder and block. You need to do that for all cylinders because they can have other distances.
@jeroenaerts 40 years of reliable service, they must be quite good after all! A laser 100 is not a bad machine I hear. I've heard about the oil pump failures but the one in this tractor has been replaced already so that's good. The piston to head gap is set correctly on all cylinders, we did check that. How difficult was it to rebuild compared to a normal engine and how did you get on with timing the camshaft?
@WayneMescal the timing of the camshaft was not necessary because it was good. The engine itself was not difficult to do because I got my dad and grandfather.
@@jeroenaerts It's great to have family who are also interested in these things. They will have plenty of experience. Where abouts are you from. Belgium/Netherlands?

Maybe there's a reason not many men own a Same 😂
@kieranosullivan02 Used to be popular back in the day. The previous owners of this probably got good service out of it in fairness but it's just gone very old now...
nothing wrong with a same ........provided you knew how to drive a tractor ........they were not a tractor for yobs same laser were as good a range of tractors as any ......... same galaxy would put any tractor of similar horse power to shame with its ability on the pto ........... neighbour had a galaxy here and had a 4 meter power harrow and drill mounted on it ...... the temp gauge never rose when working the harrow ...... fitted a new gauge same story .......... called the supplier to complain that the gauge was faulty ......was told , before removing the gauge , to work the tractor in a much higher gear and see if the gauge moved ...... the engine was under no pressure at all in the gear that was being used .......but still faster than the food tractor that was used before this that was overheating .........
@georgedoorley5628 Keep them clean and they're perfect to stay cool! They are neat machines in fairness, simple old reliable power!
@@georgedoorley5628 yes I wouldn't argue it tbh because I only know of one same tractor round here. Is that the problem in Ireland though? Too rare for men to really know what was up with them so stayed away and then you hear the one man with one having a problem that he may have caused himself and then that's everyone turned off them. Like new Holland or john deere are no perfect tractors but everyone has them so the mechanics will know all the troubles real quick.
@kieranosullivan02 My supposedly legendary reliable new holland Tm has been quite troublesome since it came and has had no shortage of problems in it's past too. They all have issues. How easily can you fix it is nearly just as important. This galaxy spent years on a pottinger mex 6 but the guy was a Same die hard so at least he knew to keep it clean and keep it indoors because it wouldn't be long rusting.
How good she on fuel
@Mrmaige super tbh. I did like 12 hours in it and didn't even burn the one tank under the bonnet
She good so that way
How do you feed your bales? Got any bale splitter?
@christophperndorfer7763 had a mchale bale splitter on the back of the tractor with years. Got a goweil bale opener that catches the plastic on the front loader of this Claas tractor now just this year. I don't feed bales, the father does it all. I don't have much to do with the farm at home tbh, I do more mechanics. He still prefers using the mchale splitter I think. Handier in small places.
@WayneMescal nice because we are looking for a machine to handle the bales in winter. At the moment we got a bale spear and feed the cows by hand
@christophperndorfer7763 go for a bale splitter on the back of the tractor. Will make your life much easier. Slices it up, makes it easier to fork. We have a feed passage with barriers both sides. Take the plastic off out in the yard. Back bale into the shed. Keep the bale lifted up on the splitter. Roll off the net by hand. Split bale. Back under it again and split it fully. Take both halves and split into a quarters. Can use the splitter to push and sweep the silage around after a day or so. Once you get used to it there's very little forking.
Nice Job Thank you men!
Good vid. Would you feel the weight of the baler on that tractor on those hills

Are u heading back to newzealand again anytime ?
@@Jasonculhaneagri not this year and probably doubtful again for another full season. Might go over and do a maize season with a holiday as well in a few years or something.
Nice rig lad
Keep the it going
Wouldnt panic about needing a box rebuild just for being jumpy. Is she power command ? Things like accumulors are worth a looking at first. When was she calibrated last ?
@endamcguinness2990 the day I took that video 🫣 plenty hot too. It helped but still wile jumpy. Readings over 280 on f3 range pack is worrying. Accumulator was changed 2 years ago, hardly gone again so soon. I wonder would piping 2 Accumulators into it help. Keep the pressure up for those big gear changes of 6 to 7 and 12 to 13. Powercommand yes. At least no synchro worries in them.
@WayneMescal is it just 6-7 and 12-13 changes. Power command 165 here and they are jumpy when cold, not too bad when warm. If it's just packs it's not end of world anyway. Our man usually says avg 250 a pack.
I sometimes just dip the clutch for 12 to 13 on haulage work if it's quite jumpy
@endamcguinness2990 there 9 packs in it though so that adds up if need more than one doing. More the hassle of getting in to them is the thing. No even the gear changes that take 2 packs, like 14 to 15, 16 to 17 can be bit jumpy if not adjusting the throttle to try and smoothen it out. All the gears where it just changes the one hi lo packs are grand and smooth. Prob want to check that accumulator again just in case. The guy who sold it to me used to tell me to dip the clutch for 12 to 13. But like.....I bought a powercommand because I wanted a full powershift. I'd have bought a range command if I wanted to go clutching. I wanted powercommand for baling and mowing. I do find it nice on those jobs. No ranges to worry about.
@WayneMescal no harm checking the accumlator and if you get some man whos good at them they can sometimes manually set fill times to smoothen them out. Some of them are just jumpier than others for what ever reason I think. If it's a good tractor worth a doing you could buy another one you could well have the same trouble. The change in ranges will be a bit jumpy even if ot was brand new just the way they are.
You should do a farm tour love the video
@patrickculliton698 thanks. I won't do a tour though sorry, I only do hire work myself, I'm not into the farming side of things at all tbh.
I love a Ford 7810 best Ford tractor by far in my book .certainly looks quicker than 30k
@MichaelBradley-j6z they got the 7810's just perfect didn't they! Should do 35k on some new tyres now. Videos next year, it's half way through a minor restoration.
Unfortunately 7810 never came with column shifter gear levers.
@@Nupa-bb1xs I prefer it on the floor, much easier for using trailed harvester and balers. There was a discussion about this today on the 10 series appreciation group on facebook.
@@WayneMescal column shifer are gear levers under streeing wheel.
And you are doing a amazing job mate and I am a big fan of your videos and keep up the good work
