How I breakdown a small aku
Come join me, Pomaika'i, as i show you my method for breaking down a small aku (6lb) into kamas, aku bones, and pieces to make sashimi and/or poke.
I usually remove the head and guts on the boat, some of the edge of the meat turns white but very minimal and I usually give my neighbor the bloodline but sometimes if the aku is small and doesn't have enough meat to feed the whole ohana we will cook it and eat it.

Nice and simple fillet job.What brand knives are those?
Mahalo, the white handled knives are Dexter brand knives. I bought the larger one from POP and the smaller one from Hobbietat but both places carry both knives. The orange handle knife is a Chinese brand knife off of Amazon, it came in a set with 2 filet knives and some other knives and a sharpener.

how do you fish the makoto r lure? do you just leave it out or do you have to jig it
I jig it when the birds are just overhead of the lure then just leave it out until I am at the birds again. The akus have bitten both when jigged and not jigged but I have a higher bite ratio when jigging. Good luck!

Back in the early 90s I remember watching ahis bust water from shore at makaha Beach,yokes,tracks,pray for sets this was before the guys that surround the bait balls like nehu and akule and the bouys always had action never need go far. Ahis out far cuz the bait balls gone especially the nehu.

Trolling at 7.5 but on the way in was at 9-10kts couldn't go much faster than that with the ocean conditions.

Howzit braddah haven't seen any comments for your for awhile, after one of your comments about hanging the 130s on the light duty rod holders I decided to reinstall the heavier rod holders and have added into my routine the moving of the rod to that those rod holders when fighting fish. I've also stepped down to 80s and 50s. Mahalo for your helpful comments and Happy New Year!!!
