This video shows a proposal presentation I had the joy of doing last Friday with my current team. I was on the fence about uploading however I figured why not. This was the first time I had ever presented in front of faculty, employers, and students in an auditorium that seats over 200 people. This video will also serve me to see what I need to improve on when presenting in front of an audience...

    Hi Mr Marcus, thanks for this kind of video. As a final-year student studying IE, it was great to see what it is like working as an IE. In most of automotive companies IEs are given targets to reduce costs for a given period. is it the same for a logistics company like UPS or is it different?

      I'm originally from New Orleans, where a lot of, if not most of, the homes were built before air conditioning was available. To make up for that, they are designed to stay as cool as possible without air conditioning. Coming from from New Orleans to Houston, one major difference I see is that most houses in the Houston area aren't built with the Gulf Coast's climate in mind. You also see that with some of the newer homes in the New Orleans area, but mostly in neighboring parishes, and the houses in the Houston area tend to be designed a lot worse in that regard. It's like they're designed for northern climates, not southern ones. Even with air conditioning, some of these houses feel like ovens. They can quickly become unsafe to stay in the event of a prolonged power outage. There's a reason why most of the older houses look the way that they do. People tend to forget about the role architecture plays in making a house comfortable to live in.

Each one gets you in the door to particular job titles, however you can dabble in the same industries it just depends on the title of course. Earning the degree will get you the entry level position making you entry level money. It will be up to you and your performance to determine how deep you will get into a career (Mid level and Senior roles). You show good/great skill in ME or whatever degree you end up earning, I have no doubt that there will be an employer who will not want to hire you or keep you employed. I hope this helps.

    • @MarcusRangel704
      @MarcusRangel704 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! .....and my gpa at its lowest was a 3.1 but throughout the semesters i got it up to 3.4. I am not a big fan of needing the highest gpa to land an internship....its more about what value you bring to a company. Advertise your skillsets to a potential employer and they will be able to tell a lot from that. So work on your skillsets as these will help you a lot to stand out weather it is work experience, specific technical skillsets, or perhaps some other soft skills such as being able to communicate clearly in front of people which is something i have seen decline over time. Find that niche and try to be the best you can in that. The rest of the stuff will follow such as a desired internship. Apply yourself FIRST before applying to all these other places.

I am interested if you could show exactly what did you do for improvements and how you made all those improvements or exactly what have you done to increase efficiency...It would be really helpful for me, if you could explain me on real examples, to understand how does it work in real life and that will help me to apply for job because I still did not get first job.

      @@wewillnotbebrokenGreat sir! May you grow more and more. Firstly, I was wondering after your comment, haven't you done internships before graduation? What difficulties you faced after graduation for the job? In addition, can you please give me some tips or advice which might help me in future? I'm asking all this just because I'm 19 years old and have got admission in "Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering" for 4 years in Bachelors program 😊 I'm eagerly waiting for your answer. Thanks!

    • @wewillnotbebroken

      @@aperson15111 first and foremost it depends in which country you live and how much is developed your country. My country is not that developed, so it was hard to gain first experience. Yes, my advice will be to apply for some internships as much as you can during university days, so after that you can put something in your CV. Companies found work experience most important thing in regrutation process, also one of the most important thinks are connections. Without them there is no success. I lack both of them (exp and conn) and that was the hardest part in process of getting my first job. But you have 19 years and 4 y more of uni in front of you, so keep calm and take your time, there is a lot of time until you come to this moment.

    Do you think you could make a video on what made you want to become an IE? Were you good at math in high school? What were your college courses like? (I'm interested in this career but wasn't the best at math in high school).

    • @MarcusRangel704
      @MarcusRangel704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not the best in math in fact I was behind! Every person has its own humble beginning and what made me want to become an IE was the continuous improvement (CI) mentality. I knew that I wanted to go into a job where improving a process or system would best suit me in the long run. Fortunately, i found Industrial engineering because that is exactly what an IE person does.... makes systems more efficient. Needless to say, I was decent in math high school nothing special just passed my classes like everyone else. Personally, you do not have to be the most math savy individual if you want to become an Industrial Engineer. Leave that to the more math heavy engineering majors however below is a list of some of the math/engineering courses I have taken in college: Cal I & ll Physics l & ll Probability THeory Statistics Differencial Equations Advanced math for engineers l Lean productions Lean six sigma optimization applied optimization supply chain management circuits circuits lab robotics robotics lab manufacturing processes manufacturing processes lab materials science ....all i can think of atm i am missing but this is general answer. Hey! Yes this is definitely your year to show employers what you are made of. SO maximize your opportunity to social network! For instance, making sure you use LinkedIn and stay active daily, have a well put together resume, increase social network at job fairs or conventions weather it is at school or locally at a church or city job fair, and last but not least make sure you have the executive presence! So dress well and make a memorable first impression with a 30 sec pitch. If you have not been doing these 4 steps then this is a great starting point for you starting now!
