Knit a loop in the front AFTER you knit it in the back loop
In my Fine Shetland Lace group, on Facebook, a question was asked.
How do I knit a stitch in the back loop AND then in the front loop.
Usually, this goes the other way around.
But I needed to twist the loop and increase a stitch, too.
Here, I show you HOW to knit that and why.
Enjoy.

How to do Wrap & Turn in knitting (fine lace).
มุมมอง 1.6K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi. For all patterns with an edge around the shawl, I've been using the Wrap &Turn technique. The benefit is that the edge can be knit continuously, no short rows. It also gives a nice corner because all the rows fan out and get full length when blocked. In the patterns are descriptions on how many to do and how often or where to start. In a visually oriented world, a tutorial can be very suppo...

How to cast on for circular project, when knitting.
มุมมอง 206ปีที่แล้ว
Here is a tutorial in real-time, on how to cast on for a circular project. this way, you do not end up with a large hole in the centre. It does take some effort to not drop the needles, but I'm showing you how to do that. If you want to do it, but with support, sit at a table or have a pillow on your lap. Make sure to have the needles in the right place, so you don't accidentally male new loops...

Grafting in general and especially Fine Lace.
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Hi, this is my latest design Equilibrium, and I need to graft the two knitted halves to each other. I hold one part in my lap and the other equal part is on my knees. there is a black foam board under my knitting, for security. That will prevent the lace from slipping away, the black is a good backdrop to the white yarn. I've got a red Lifeline in the top beit, so as not to miss any stitches wh...
How I knit Fine Shetland Lace
มุมมอง 2Kปีที่แล้ว
Let me show you how I knit very fine lace. Just because I am knittingbit on straight dull grey needles doesn't mean it can't be done with circulars, bamboo, carbon, or other types. It is all about technique. But... you DO need a needle with a lace point. Otherwise, making decreases will be very hard to do. I love doing this, I hope you do too. How do you knit? pattern: Equilibrium (not yet rele...
How to attach a knitted edge to the shawl.
มุมมอง 353ปีที่แล้ว
Have you knitted an edge separately, and do you want to attach it to your project? This is one way to do it. I had knitted another project and added an edge to it. Then, I removed the edge because the project was not to my liking. I had knitted the edge onto that project, and simply by dropping the stitch that kept the edge attached, I then was able to pull on it, and the whole edge came off. Q...
Making it all better again, repairing my knitting.
มุมมอง 651ปีที่แล้ว
I had added 1 too many loops while knitting a nupp. It's a 9 loop nupp and I took the next stitch too. I only noticed it many rows later. The nupp was pulled in a different direction than all the others. There was nothing else to do but to unravel. I layed it down on my lap, unravelled while controlling the yarn, so only 1 row got undone. Nupps tend to hold on for dear life and pull the rows be...

This might give you a glimpse of how it could have been, spinning yarn in Shetland. Utter silence. The Heritage Center was closed, due to Corona/Covid19. so close to all that beautiful fine lace. I brought my little spindle and wool from Shetland, I had prepared at home. the fleece was ordered and send from Jamieson and Smith. I washed the locks separately and combed them. Spinning at the airpo...
Fantastic! Thank you very much!
Hello, I'm from Chile and I've been looking and researching about this wonderful weaving technique and as you say, I only find separate design patterns, and in my short or almost non-existent experience, I can't make or join different designs to create a complete work. Is there a pattern that shows how to make a complete shawl? Or should I just do it myself? Thank you very much for all your videos and you have a new subscriber!!!!
So Beautiful of an Art Thank you Monique Sending Love 💜😊🌹
amazing knitting. I am also knitting my first shetland lace. I bought the lace yarns from shetland.
Very beautiful!❣️
This is very informative. Thank you for sharing. As for the name 'Aisling', I've heard it pronounced as 'ASH-LING'...can you imagine!
Amazing send me your address for Passion for Lace so I can send you a gift Love your Art 🌞🌷💕
That's so kind. Perhaps buy a pattern, then we're both happy!

This is very helpful, thank you for the tips! 😊
Such Lovely knits 💕😊🌹
I would guess this is very time consuming and cannot miss a stitch no room for errors here ❤
Looks Lovely 🌹 your a Great teacher ❤
Can't wait to start my first piece Thanks for being such a Great Teacher ❤
Amazing work keep teaching me Danke ❤
Lovely works of Art ❤
Does length matter for the needles? Or is it comfort. I wondering how many cobweb yarn stitches can fit on a straight needle.
I knit on real short needles for my 2 ply lace. It's much easier on the hands and wrists as you get older. With the thin ply you can handle a min of 100 plus stitches. My question was "where do you get such fine ply wool from?" And see someone wrote they got theirs from Shetland. Is there anywhere closer to Oz than that? I get my two ply, or have done in the past, from Bendigo Wool Mills
Beyond Lovely the finest knitting i think i have seen how long did this shawl take to knit? Thanks Marianne 💕😊
Your work is Amazing and so precise Im addicted to Lace everything it just takes so long ❤
Amazing..got me nervous at one point though 😅
Браво!
Thank you for this wonderful video. It was wonderful to see you and your beautiful designs and to learn from you.
When I bought the pattern last year, I didn’t realize there were two versions. Apparently, I have the rectangle version.
I purchased the pattern last year, and have been hoping there will be a KAL. I know this will be a challenging project. Thanks for the tips ❤
Is this grafting method fine for a hap shawl (Morag shawl) knitted with light fingering yarn (Bc garn bio shetland 280m per 50g). I did a provisional cast on for the edge part : do I need to place edge stitches back on a needle and cut out the waste yarn before I start the grafting ?
Thank you very much, dear Monique!
Love the new design, and really appreciate your tutorial on wrap & turn corners. As always, watching you knit is magical! Thanks for everything you do, Monique ❤
Un gioiello ❤️💐🙋☕🛋️🧶🪴🐕🐈⬛🏠☀️
Very beautiful work. Your double stripped one is v gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Can you show fine lace cast on. Mine is always too tight. I do the loop cast on, and it pulls together there. If there are any tips, I'd appreciate it. It's keeping me from Equilibrium Shawl. I dont like the way it looks and. I know grafting here will be bunched and look terrible, and that bothers me too much. Thanks, Robin
Wow, fabulous. I used to knit a lot years ago and hope to begin again, this time knitting lace. Waiting for a couple of books. I've subscribed and hoping I can figure it out, and I believe your videos will be very helpful. I knew how to fix my knitting before, and so this made fair sense to me, even after all those years, but the "moving over" of the lower stitches was a new one! Thank you so much for the videos. I'll be back I'm sure. 😃
Anch’io odio fissare i fili.
I have been wanting to knit one for ages, this is the encouragement needed! Such a great video, thanks very much.
That's amazing to see the swatches, side-by-side, the difference using different sized needles

Hi, Monique - What a delightful video, and so much useful information. Hap-py knitting ahead! Thanks for all you do to preserve the Shetland lace heritage & to build a contemporary, international community of fine Shetland lace knitters. Best wishes to you & yours for the coming year. ❤
Thank you for the kind words. We must do it together to keep it alive!
Monique, è possibile attivare i sottotitoli? Grazie❤
Thank you!

I detest switching 😊 for reasons I don't fully understand. I'm going to force myself because I'm trying to work on the Equilibrium, and I realize I am a very loose knitter. This has not been a problem with lace weight yarn as gauge is not important to the pattern. I have always been happy with the outcome. I am an experienced lace knitter. But it's different knitting Shetland lace. I have knit a square Shetland Shawl the lace was to loose, I snagged it right away. Luckily, it's forgiving, and I was able to make it look acceptable after minor manipulation. I knit it with Happsula yarn. I love this yarn. I am switching for this pattern. I recognize it is complicated for myself who is used to purling every other row for "regular lace" I'm going to use Jamison Cobweb for this beautiful square shawl. I so appreciate this video. I'm off to Ravelry to purchase the pattern and join the discussion group. I guess I needed to talk about this😊 Thanks, Robin
You have good insight into your skills and troubles. That will help you. A swatch can be time-consuming. I've had many that were thought of to be worthless. Yet, 10years later, they ring a bell, and a bauble design was born. It's all little steps to help you get in the flow. Keep me posted how it's going.
Thank you this is so helpful. Please keep teaching, you are an excellent one.😊
Patience of a Saint and a good eyesight! Does this help or give you stress
This is very helpful for me, as I have already purchased the pattern for the future ❤️
Thank you Monique, you do so much to help people! ❤️
Thank you! I know I'll come back to watch it again and again~ I feel like I"m about to jump off a cliff as this is a new challenge!
Great video, watched it while swatching so now on with the real work. 😊
Thank you so much!!! This has been extremely helpful. I am so looking forward to get knitting. My swatch turned out great with my hand spun, so that is what I will be using. I really like that you did a small square option too. Thank you Monique!!!
Ok. Well, this is getting me all excited to cast this shawl on! Thank you so, SO much!
How do you atart the grat?
It's in the description box. Step 1 and 2
Thankyou. I will try on a shawl waiting for grafting.
Thank you! Lovely and clear, and will be much needed in a few months when I get to that stage with my Williamson Stole. ❤
Thanks Monique. I hold my yarn in my right hand for lace. But I’ve been using circular needles and my wrists are so sore. I ordered an inexpensive set of 16” straight needles by Knit Pal. Size 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, and 3.0 mm. I’ve decided to try your way and hoping it will help. What needles are you using?
Lana Grossa. Straight, grey, dull. I have trouble with shiny needles.
@@apassionforlace The Knit Pal needles I ordered are aluminum, so dull. I figure they were worth $11 for three pairs, to try.
Thank you, Monique. I think that my next Shetland lace project will be your Shetland Stars design. ❤
