Maintaining peace in life
มุมมอง 3342 ปีที่แล้ว
A few months ago, I did a video talking about relationships. in that video I mentioned the importance of maintaining peace in my life as best as I can. I so get overwhelmed by things and deal with chaos, but having peace to me is about the pursuit of it. here are some ways I pursue peace in my life: 1. cutting out little things that add to chaos 2. Going out in nature 3. Limiting news consumpti...
Mistakes I've made with my Semi-Freeform Locs
มุมมอง 9K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Just felt like making a video discussing mistake Ive made with my Semi-freeform locs. For me, Semi-freeforming just means that I do not retwist my hair, but I do make sure that my loc strands remain separated. my inconsistency in the early loc journey days definitely contributed to some weaker locs, but I'm trying to be more consistent with them now. Are you semi-freeforming? Considering it? Th...
Attempting to Curl My Locs
มุมมอง 4812 ปีที่แล้ว
So I have have decided to play around with different loc styles. I attempted to curl my locs using....paper bag. Yes....that's right. Paper bags. I didnt have any curlers at the time I made the decision, so I had to be resourceful. I wasn't sure how it would go with my semi-freeformed locs. The curl didn't last very long (as in, you could see it losing curl as the video progressed lol), but I l...
Mentality in the First 6 Months of the Loc Journey

Hello there! This is a requested video. I was recently asked about my mentality in the first 6 months of the loc journey (great question, btw!). Even though I have now been loc'd for six years, it was nice to look back on this. I came up with a list of 7 key things that helped me through the journey. I hope this will be helpful for someone. 10 Questions to Ask Yourself When Dating / Long-Term Relationships

ik u heard once dat u look like lil tecca gng
I'm watching this cuz I washed mine last night and noticed the tiny 4c shedding on the sink after running my fingers through it. I got concerned. But there's no leakage at the roots, so it's all good.
Ah, I'm glad you can see you're not alone in this! I experience this every time i wash my locs.
Same here. I don't like the retwist look
Yes keep freefroming are so Beautiful
How many locs is this?
Around 131, I think
💛💛💛Gorgeou Locs!
For real!
🖤🖤🖤 Thank you so much for the tutorial!
You're very welcome!
how many locs do you have?
I think I have 132
My ends are weird like some of them taper off. I am now gonna moisturize it regularly and I love having locs too.
Ah, the weird ends happened early in my journey. They're a different kind of weird now (lol) due to careless movement and an inconsistent routine, I believe. I hope your routine goes well for you!
Ur gorgeous 🙏🏼 Let it be free
Thanks for watching Loving the freedom of locs.

I’m curious about your dating life. Did locs affected you getting married? Im single and just started my loc journey and would like to be married within the next few years.
My confidence had a bigger impact on my dating life, more than my hairstyle, imo. I think locs have been another way I show love to myself. Locs did not affect me getting married, but have freed up more time for my relationship and other things. For me, it was key to only entertain a partner who would be supportive through different phases in life. My then-boyfriend/now-husband was always supportive of me getting whatever hairstyle was best for my lifestyle. I hope that helped answer your question!
@@mnotinglife7934 yes it does, thank you for responding. It’s absolutely amazing watching your journey!!
My pleasure! I'm glad that you have enjoyed the journey
❤❤❤
But “semi freeforming” is just that. Doing it sometimes and others times not??
Sure, it can be. I've heard different kinds of definitions. But all that matters is that you're doing what works for you : )
Your locs are so beautiful i am 5 years in myself and i cannot imagine my hair being any other way. I do go to a loctician 2-3 times a year. I maintain my hair all the other times. I get it done for my birthday and for Christmas as a treat to myself.
Congratulations on 5 years! And thank you That sounds nice. Sometimes it's nice to have someone else do your hair. I love that locs can be whatever kind of maintenance you want and still look great.
🤍🤍🤍Thank you for sharing your gorgeous locs.
Glad to have shared the journey : )
Wow! I wanna try that. Can you do a style tutorial? For me, im dealing with a lot of insecurities about my hair, and not feeling beautiful enough at times. Also, i haven't reached my goal of tailbone length.
Yes, it's a fun style. I confess I have been a little distant from posting YT videos lately, but if I get back in a place to post again, I will be sure to do a tutorial. : ) But, in the meantime, Morgan Alexis has a video called "Easy Formal/Casual Loc Style without a Retwist". This is where I first saw loc bangs done this way. What do you think makes you feel that way about your hair?
Wow! Ur hair is similar to mine with the same density, tho my locs are traditional. I'm 6.5 years locd. About the same length. I challenge myself each time with semi freeforming and I struggle with feeling ugly. Idk why. Smtg I have to work through. I watch all these TH-camrs going freeforming and their hair doesn't look like mine and yours. Ours is thick and bushy. So nice to see hair that looks like mine. And your hair looks great. Ir gorgeous and confident. So I need to embrace my look as well as you do.
I'm glad you reached out! I think that can be part of the struggle of not being as represented on screen. One of the main reasons I started the channel was to represent a hair type that was hard to find here. It's an interesting journey when you start to recognize the beauty of what you have. I used to be so frustrated with my hair but the loc journey helped me to love it so much. I also found that learning new skills and embracing some healthy activities helped me gain confidence in general and confidence in myself and my appearance. I've always been a bit of an oddball, so that that helped me be comfortable looking different from what was common in media. Life would be so boring if we all had the same kind of beauty. I'm rooting for you and your journey!
Gorgeous and healthy looking locs. ❤
Thanks for your simple message....leave your locs alone!! Gently guide them to avoid married locs! Let your crown be to flourish into what IT wants to be.
Great video! Thank you for your transparency - super helpful 🙌
Thanks! And I'm glad this was helpful : )
Loc goals!! Ill be 3 years in May and struggled as a loose natural to retain length!! do you cover your hair on a night
Understood! If I didn't have my hair in locs, no matter what, my hair wouldn't even be 1/3 of it's current length. I'm glad you have found something that works for you. Yes. I started covering my locs at night several months ago. Before, I would just sleep on a silk pillowcase. I brought that pillowcase with me wherever I went lol
Hey M. I’m glad to see you. I’m no longer loc’d but I’m definitely will start another journey in the future. I have not kept up with the other loc TH-camrs. Your hair is beautiful darling! 💜😊
Mur Bonn! Whoa! We haven't chatted in quite a while! What has pulled you back into considering a loc journey again? Thank you so much!😊
I am 3 years in. I have 4c hair. I am shedding like crazy. My hair is naturally dry. I thought I was neglecting my hair. Good too know this is normal.
Ah, so you understand! My hair is naturally dry too and has been shedding from the beginning. I do not moisturize my hair much at all beyond washing, so idk if that plays a role, but shedding has definitely been a normal part of my natural hair journey.
Very cute style.Looks so good on you and glasses go well with the bangs.
Thank you so much! It's super quick to do, too. Though, I confess, I also like the braidout style just as much, but it's not as quick.
Nice hair style! 😍 It's great to hear your voice and see your face again. I don't have locs anymore, but I do feel the same about my natural hair. I have a feeling of it does what it does, and I'm more relaxed about my hair.
Thank you for your sweet comment! I hadn't realized it had been so long since I last uploaded. It is interesting that you have also felt more chill about your journey. Embracing that freedom. Now that you don't have locs, do you wear your hair loose? In protective styles?
@MNotingLife I mostly just wash at least once a month. Yeah, I just keep my hair in twists. No extentions added. I do it myself. I redo it at least 2 times a month or when it starts to look bad. Ihave 4 c hair, so I prefer plaits or twists . They last a log time and I don't have to think about it to much.
Oh nice! A simple but cute way to work natural hair.
You’ve remained so true to yourself, your loc journey and your TH-cam community and for that deserve much well due respect love 🫶🏽😘
Wow! That's such a thoughtful comment. I really like this community. Thank you so much!

Can we get a 6.5 year update on your loy
Sure I can- though I haven't seen too many changes over the past year. But if you have any particular questions, I can work off that
@@mnotinglife7934 like how you deal with the length an what is your go to style when your about to eat an what should i do if my locs our your length but are thin in the middle or close to the end should i trim them or leave them alone right now I’m 6 years and 2 months an started from a fade yes i can show you
Ah okay. These questions tie in with a video topic I have been thinking about. Good timing!
@@mnotinglife7934 I’m still patiently waiting
@@PierreBrown38 Hey there! I haven't forgotten about this. I'll have a video later this month. : )
Please let go of the ends that are dangling for dear life. Getting rid of those obvious damaged dead ends is part of taking care of your hair. I will never understand why people can't bare to get rid of obvious dead ends that are about to fall off. I can only imagine the embarrassment if one broke off in a public setting. You can free form or semi free form by practicing healthy maintenance.
While I do not share your perspective, I'm glad if you have a routine that you consider to be healthy for you. I don't consider my locs to be super healthy overall, but do find it important for me to have a healthy scalp. Occasionally I cut some broken ends when I feel ready and remember to do so. Knotting my hair has "fixed" some breaks here nd there, but generally i don't worry about it and consider it all a part of my journey.
EXACTLY!!!
Mia I agree.
You have gorgeous locs!!!🤍
Thank you!😊
@@mnotinglife7934 You are so welcome!😊😊
I love your hair! I never let someone else do my love because of time, money & trust. I'm on the 2 nd loc journey. - I know a lot more & love them better!
Thank you😊 Yes, I dont blame you! I feel the same about maintaining my own hair. Plus, I think I feel it's more sustainable that way. When going away for a bit, it's nice not having to worry about finding a new loctician or anything.
I love it!! I’ve always colored my hair since returning natural back in 2013, while it flows with my personality I’ve been craving black. Something I never did.. however when color grows out I get an ombré effect which I like , last I dyed was when I was 6 months loc’d so almost 2 years ago. I’m just afraid I’ll have to keep touching up with black.. what’s your experience been? Loving the vids :) hair and personality lovely..
Oh interesting. For my locs, I've found that the color fades back the color of my roots (dark brown). I felt like it happens very subtly though. When I dye it, I actually only dye the lower part of my locs because I prefer the black color over the reddish brown. But the way I blend it flows well enough into the locs near my roots. I hope that explained it. And thank you for your thoughtful comment!
@@mnotinglife7934 awesome hun!! Thanks so much for your reply! Yes I have naturally dark brown hair.. maybe when I do dye it, I should stick with natural black.. or mix it with jet.. who knows but soon I will! Have a great rest of your week continue to enjoy the freedom😊
@@soulfullyroyalnita that sounds nice. it's fun to try different things with locs. Sometimes I forget that lol Thank you so much! I hope your weekend is a lovely one.
You are so gorgeous!! I love being semi free form never retwisted best decision ever!! Love your amazing locs hun!! I’m inspired.
Aw! Thank you so much! Yes, it is so freeing!! I'm glad you're loving your journey!
I find it intriguing that your hair naturally coils from free forming. You’re the first TH-camr I’ve come across that has mentioned this as I have been curious about semi free forming. Thank you for the insight!
Ah I'm glad you've find this video to be helpful in some way! I hope you find a comfortable option for your hair. In spite of the mistakes I have made, I've been loving the benefits of semi-freeforming. : )
I feel her concern with knowing that all that is in your locs. Mine grew and I became obsessed with the lint and I didn’t want to color them. So I had them cut to shoulder length and haven’t looked back. I know lint comes with the territory, but I had whole lower locs that was more lint than hair! Her locs look good, I think if she trimmed them it would grow back in no time. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, the cool thing about having gone through the process is seeing how quickly the hair grows and retain length when locked. Lint can be frustrating, but it's nice to know you have options. She actually did end up cutting her hair. She preferred her locs shorter anyway, so it worked out. : )
Your locs are beautiful! My hair does not loc easy and here in year two I’m attempting to semi free form so that my thin, fine hair can thicken up. I never style my locs except for a loose pony. I have a lot of loose hair, if I don’t twist them around my locs how do the loc? I’m stretching my retwist from 6 weeks to 12 right now… thank you!
Thank you! It's tricky to say because that depends on your hair type and maintenance. My hair really likes to get all tangled up, so I didnt have many stray hairs at all. My sister, however, did. She has a looser curl pattern than me and would wrap the strap hairs around some of the locs at times, but she did not semi-freeform, so I'm not sure how it would have turned out. I know this response isn't ideal. If you find some people online with a similar hair type, it may help to see what they did and how that turned out for them. Wishing you the best on your semi-freeform journey!

Ah yes. She is always so straightforward. There's actually an update coming soon. I just need to edit it
👋 Where’s your sis and bro? Y’all locs are beautiful. Not oiling is a good thing believe me. Some oils cause itching and inflammation.
Hey, thank you! Actually it'd be interesting to do a video with both of them. Maybe around the holidays when we're together again. Yeah, I found that coconut oil was not good for my scalp. I feel like it did more harm than good. Castor oil works for me though-i just don't overdo it.
My scalp hates EVERYTHING except coconut oil. It actually calms my scalp.
The weak areas of your loc’s as you have described them are nothing more than simple maintenance needs. I noticed on my own loc’s, as you showed on yours, places where my locks have stretched and thinned. I use a crochet needle 5 mm, I rough up the thinned frayed ends overlap them about a half an inch and crochet them together until the density feels even and tug on them to be sure they are well connected. By doing this the loc stays consistent with no weak spots and the place where they were joined is no longer detectable. You may need to practice a little to get more consistent with your crocheting and feeling the density. Any locks that have this problem crochet them back together and your hair will look fine! You seem to have the perfect hair for loc’s! I use a three prong 5 mm crochet needle. I find this locks the hair the fastest and the tightest. I learned by watching DXLYN’s videos! she has many videos depicting the very problems you are speaking of with great reparative results! You have a great hair! I hope this is some help to you. Good luck I’ll be watching your videos!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I haven't tried that method yet. I'll check out some of her videos and look at options for repairing locs. Yes. I am very thankful that I have hair that locks very easily. Even if I completely destroyed my locs, it's nice to know that they'd lock quicker if I started over. When I really look at my locs, I see the story of me learning more about my hair. I wish you the best as you continue your journey. Thank you again for your thoughts
@@mnotinglife7934 Please do not contemplate starting over. Your hair is not as bad as you may feel that it is. I am Sure that a Loctician can separate and repair your locks and you would never know there has ever been a problem! I locked my own here and I know that I would be able to fix yours but I’m not there. Don’t give up things are not as bad as they seem. Look at those videos by DXLYN just as I did and you will learn how to make the needed repairs yourself for far less money! God bless you I’ll be watching your channel hoping that you took my advice. 🕊

Lol I agree alone time is good. I've been painting as well. I feel like I'm in a period of self. A good balance is best! I also agree with ending certain relationships when it's time. It does hurt . And yeah sometimes they just don't work and you can't or shouldn't force it. I agree with all these tips. There should always be a good balance! Ps: Cool updo!!
Oh that's awesome! Do you listen to anything while painting? I typically have an audiobook going. I feel like these is a new discovery and empowerment level during a period of self. I like this for you! Yes, it's so much easier said than done. But knowing that it's not helping either party does help move things along. Great video sista! I am on my second loc journey. I was thinking of not retwisting ever again. What is your take on that sista? They are about 2 weeks old right now. I was thinking of semi-freeforming...yet I am thinking about never retwisting them again.
Thank you! It depends on what you want. I chose semi-freeforming because of the look and simplicity of it and I also felt it was healthier for my roots and lifestyle, while considering my hair type. I didnt want to worry about messing up a retwist. I just wanted to feel free. I'd recommend thinking about overall what you aim to get out of it, check out some more semi-freeform journeys here, and I'm sure you'll come to a good conclusion. I hope this was helpful 😊 What led you to start a second journey?
@@mnotinglife7934 It was a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing haha.

My biggest mistake was not being semi-freeform from the beginning! Haha if I had to do it all again I would skip the whole year I wasted trying to maintain perfectly manicured parts every two weeks
