Early '96 Build
This seems to be a early January 1996 build, way before pre E3. We hadn't composed the title screen music yet, so we used really old stock music as a placeholder.

An very early (and I MEAN early) version of the N64 BIOS screen, with many features that got cut and/or reworked. I remember working on this, and this tape is actually me testing it out.
FX Testing

Hey, everyone! I had a bit of a emotional breakdown for some reason last night, so I watched this to calm down. Apparently, this is an unfinished intro to a N64 promo tape. No sound is present at all, also, this shows a more developed alpha build (B-Roll HUD, added stage).

Ok, so I've noticed things that would theoretically disprove this video. 1. The hud is not similar in any way to the builds after SSK95. (Hud originally had new icons for numbers and the X) 2. The castle is not similar to the E3 builds of the game. Originally, there were no stairs. 3. The music never changed in the builds inbetween E3. 4. In SSK95, a theme close to the final version's opening theme was used, which means only minor changes took place there. 5. The font is not at all the same as any other version of the game's.

I think the best build is the top secret mid '93 Super Mario 48, when they planned a less powerful console. Of course, they found how to expand the memory early into the N64 development, so we didn't get Nintendo Ultra (48 mb). But if you're wondering how I know all that, I do have a gift for reading tea leaves.
I think what some people fail to note is that mario 64 didn't even start full development until september 1994, while these may be cool, I think it would be more realistic if it was an early 1995 build, as I don't think mario had any sounds or even animations until around that time.
