In this video I set a new Deadlift Personal Record (PR) of 190 kg (419 lbs.) at 2 reps with calibrated plates and a stiff bar. 65 here in Canada. Got a bogus "write up" after 10 years of service there. So I went on "medical leave" for two weeks due to "stress". Then used up 2 months of banked time. Then they fired me. Went on EI for a year due to the bogus "termination". Then retired. It's all good. I feel I got the better of that scummy company.

Whenever I order just one thing, say a treat or a special drink, I always add a good tip because I understand that the Dasher is working hard for me. I remember once Dave Ramsey talking about tipping. He said that if you have enough money to order, you better have enough to tip well. I agree!

@@henryToped Hey Henry. I trained with dumbbells and barbell to develop the strength to press the natural stone. It’s best to get strong using overhead barbell pressing then that gives you the strength and ability to show case that strength and press odd objects like a rock or natural stone. I placed 3rd against guys 10 years younger than I. So I’m officially Canada’s 3rd Strongest Male Masters 50+ 😃 My next competition will be in St. George Utah next May. Load bearing exercises really help maintain muscle tissue as we age so I’ll continue to train with weights even when I stop competing. I hope you continue to stop by. I’ll be making a video this week about my National competition. Cheers my friend 😃

Oh hello. Sorry I didn’t see your comment sooner. I just finished up competing and I’m back in my hotel room ready to catch my flight ✈️ back to Edmonton Alberta tomorrow morning. It was a great competition. I managed to get 3rd place in Masters 50+ I met a lot of wonderful female athletes here so maybe I spoke to Etta and didn’t know it 😃 I just subscribed to your channel. Have fun is the word, and learning! Its fun to learn to edit, enhanche audio och learning how to do thumnails. Fancy editing is not important, but i have noticed that good thumbnails can be important if you want people to klick, but as you said its what you talking about thats important.

I completely get the feeling of where to start when starting to downsize. What I've been doing is posting things on my local "Buy Nothing" Facebook group. Many of my items have gone to people just starting out (or starting over). It's pretty cool to see how excited they are to get something they've been wanting, but couldn't quite fit in the budget. Meanwhile, I've had it languishing in the closet waiting to (start making bread, start sewing, start juicing ... you get the picture .. lol). What's wild is that I've never wished for or needed any of it since it's been gone. That fact alone continues to amaze me. Anyhow, new subscriber here. Your channel popped up as recommended and I like it!

I saw the writing on the wall and retired before they could "eliminate my position." Companies have no loyalty to their employees anymore.
You’re absolutely right. Good for you for taking the initiative to look after your own security and future. Sometimes we think we’re safe and can squeeze out 2 or 3 more years but then the company suddenly “lets you go” and throws a wrench into our plans. Thank you again for commenting. Cheers.
Make sure you aren't fired for negligence that will disqualify you from unemployment benefits: being late to work, stealing, etc. Also, if they ask you to quit, don't do it. If you quit, you may be ineligible for unemployment benefits.
@@prr665 Thank you for the advice. Actually, employment lawyers I’ve talked to have said that even many infractions that would justify firing can still be considered for further severance. But yes I agree that Employment Insurance is different and it would probably not pay out. Thank you for commenting. 😃

Hello Martin. I just watched your video and subscribed. If I may make a few suggestions.. Remember it is a big job and it won't get done in a day. Start slow and small. Remove the stuff that is obviously not worth keeping. I.e. magazines, Tupperware with out lids, almost empty bottles and containers. I love doing this and am constantly purging. Take care of you top. In times working as a employee I was always kind of happy to leave a place and in my last 14y als a freelancer I had no contact to HR (cheers!). There was really no customer for the last 14y where I even considered working as an employee. When the contract could not prolonged it was time to move on.Just trading time for money. Now I'm retired with 56. Greetings from Germany.

Here’s my 2 cents on this. As a retired union worker, shop steward, contract negotiator in the USA pretty much in all states if you look at the bottom of the employment application you will see you are a at will employee. Which means they the employer can terminate your employment at anytime with or without cause. Also the courts have ruled the company or any company does not owe you a job. When you cross the line to work for an employer you loose a lot of your constitutional rights. The workers that have the most rights but thst can vary is union workers and government civil service workers by laws that are on the books. Before I go any farther if and when you get fired from your job immediately even the next day serve your former employer a notice that you want a copy of your personal file and give them 5 business days to do it. What this. Your personal file is your property basically, like your medical files. What this does basically freezes your file on the date you serve them the notice. So if your termination gets to be a shit show they the employer can’t back load your personal file with bogus remarks , statements, accusations etc about what your job performance was. Plus this shows them you are ready to fight back. Do this the next day or better the day you get fired is even better and you get to see what your supervisor has been saying about you behind your back. I’ve personally done this. It’s kinda fun to serve your boss with this notice of request and you can do it yourself. Now on to other things. To get a termination package of money at the end is slim to none especially in a small business. Big corporations will do this so not to tarnish their goodwill image. If you are a none union salary person GFL on getting any payout at the end other than pre describe vacation and accrued sick leave. Most people don’t get jack shit at all. If your 50 and above in a stable work environment have a plan B , C, D ready to go. Be out looking kinda for another job. Make contacts . Talk to people in the industry to see what’s happening. Net work etc because you never know. I’ve been through all this bullshit. And one thing to remember is more people get fired on Friday the 13th then any other day😱😱😱, why you ask-???, because it’s the end of the 2 week pay period and they the assholes you’ve been working for don’t want to carry you over into the next pay period. Full disclosure here, I’ve been fired on Friday the 13th , and just on Friday with 2 checks instead of one because we got paid weekly. So that’s some meat to chew on. I’m retired now for a long time, thank God😃😃😃👍.
Very informative. Thank you. Here in my Province in Canada Employment lawyers I talked to said similar things. Working for a union or a company like a bank where you possibly get an offer letter (my son has worked at 3 of Canada’s largest banks) yes the offer letter has termination clauses in them apparently. Construction companies here where management or office workers work usually try and terminate with cause and pressure or scare you into signing the documentation believing that will limit what the company pays out. However, I found out that the company may be required to pay out as much as 12-14 months in salary plus other expenses. The employee’s lawyer sends a demand letter to the employer and the employer hires legal counsel who tries to drag out the process but often eventually makes a counter offer. The lawyers I talked to said the case rarely goes to court. The case is usually settled out of court within 6-8 months after filing and the worker (depending on a variety of factors like age, length of employment, etc.) gets some money which the lawyers take 33.3% of. @@themartinblairproject Well up in Canada you’ve got some laws on the books for this. Not so down here in the states. Then common thread in this is companies drag this stuff out every time. The company I worked for would drag out the contract talks about 3 months on a 3 year contract. When I started the expiration day was in February. Fast forward it was in June but we kept working under the old contract. But things got really bad. By the time we eventually went out on strike it was the first of September on Labor Day 😂😂. I wasn’t hard to get that final strike authorization strike vote because hunting season started 😃👍. We had it set up to man the picket line 24 - 7, 7 days a week. Also it was fall chinook salmon season 😃👍. We settled 1 month later but it took another month to bring the plant fully back up and running. I didn’t get back until the end of October. I tell you I’ve been through the fire more then once in my life🤪🤪😂😂😂😃👍👍
@@MrMopar413 I hear ya. I worked for a meat processing plant from 1985 to 97 and we went on strike twice. First time was in 1986 from June to Nov. It was a well known company (Gainers) owned by Peter Pocklington the former owner of the NHL Edmonton Oilers. If you google it on TH-cam they’ll be videos about it. Anyway that strike was okay for me as I was young and didn’t have many commitments. But the next strike at the same plat was in 1997 and the plant ended up shutting down because of it. At that time Michael McCain of the famous McCain French Fries company owned it. Our union didn’t do much for us but they tried. UFCW Local 280P So I’ve been a Union member and in Management. I would probably prefer to be with a union. 😃
@@themartinblairproject I hear you. I was in the IAM machinist Union. When we went out on strike in 99 at a company owned by Atlas Copco of Sweden it was a real shit show. We had 5 locals in the plant. 2 machinist locals, teamsters, boilermakers, painters unions represented in contract talks. Our contract was over 100 pages long. We negotiated as a team all at one time. The business reps were really good people and hard working. That year was the shits because in my city there was a lot of other industrial companies that where unionized. These companies had their own association. They would hire this guy who had is own business that was an independent contract negotiator for hire. The longer he could drag out negotiations the more money he made and he was also a union buster. We were I think 4th in line that year for contract negotiations. Then we’d wait to see what the company would do as who was on their team. When we heard they hired him which wasn’t a surprise we’d said OH - F. Right before us Cummins Northwest diesel went out on strike and it got real ugly because of this guy and management’s attitude to. I’m not going to go into the details because it’s to lengthy.. but one of the striking workers and they where part of my local committed suicide via 357 magnum because of a conversation he had with his supervisor and job prospects after the strike was resolved. The head man from the IAM international headquarters even came out because of that. This was in 1999. Tensions were running real high at the time. Then we had to face this xxxx across the barging table next. We went out on strike. We were a stones throw of being locked out . The company manufactured underground mining equipment. We had about 100 mechanics in the plant with their own tool chests roll always. The company had a required tool list for mechanics that was a laugh. We all had way more to do our jobs. So as the fear got closer to a lockout and having our tools stuck in the plant I brought this up to the team and have everyone ready to remove their tools which is a pain. The company couldn’t figure out why we were pushing the tool list. We told everyone to take home all their tools except what was required by the tool list. If we couldn’t do our job the company needs to purchase that tool, fuck them. We weren’t going to leave our tools in there while on strike and build those machines by breaking into our tool box’s and having scabs use them. Well we went into federal mediation talks. Most days till midnight. Both parties where in separate rooms and the mediator would go back n forth between the 2 groups. One time at about 11pm I went out to go to the restroom and low and behold the company hired negotiator came out we locked eyes , he was a short fat F-er and he immediately turned around went back into their room. He didn’t have the guts to pass me in the hallway. In the end we did settle. We figured our time was short. Atlas Copco announced 2 years later they were closing the plant and moving it all to Sweden and that took another 2 years. I tell you I’ve been through the F-ing bullshit. One thing I left out was anytime went out on strike the ILA longshoremen’s union would allow and give our guys jobs through their hiring hall for the guys that really needed to keep working because of family obligations. They’ve always treated us well in the tuff spots. So a high 5 🤚 to the longshoremen’s union.

Life is all about perspective, and choice. You can choose to be content regardless of circumstances. "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength." As I get older I realized it's all about relationships. Everything. The rest of this stuff won't matter but we will be asked what we did in relation to others, not how much money we had or things we acquired. And the beauty of that is it takes no money to simply be in healthy relation with others.

Thanks for your video - I think this kind of thing usually gets overlooked. Having gone through this more than once the urge is to feel discarded and inferior - that's natural. It's temporary, but the key is keep moving and not get stuck. And HR is definitely not your friend!

Fired twice in my career. Thought after the second firing I would be toast as no employer would touch me. Got the best job after that I ever had. Had that not happened a second time, I would have never found the job that made my career and made me a wealthy man. Stay positive and remember to have a stout emergency fund to see you through at least 6 months while you look.

Yes I was 45 when fired the 2nd time. I might have been a different outcome if I would have been in my mid 50’s.

So many people are losing their jobs in Canada as well as the United States, United Kingdom, etc. Some kind of UBI may be needed to help prevent further social issues including homelessness and mental illness like depression, etc. I don’t know the answer but I am very concerned. Collect unemployment until retirement age. Done. If you’re American you’re screwed. Find a hustle and / or leave the county.
You are absolutely right. I’m torn as I want to leave my country (Canada) for most of the year and spend time in SE Asia or Eastern Europe but my wife won’t go. I need to find work soon and get better prepared as I’m not yet financially ready but will have to make a change soon. Thank you for your comment 😃
Hi, if you are not saved, and would like to be included in the rapture of the church. Believe that Jesus's death on the cross, was enough to pay for ALL your sins , yes ALL ,(past, present and future) That is what the Gospel is about. We are saved by GOD'S amazing grace, through our faith in Jesus's sinless life, death on the cross and resurrection 3 days later . No additional works needed. It is literally that simple.
