SUPER Small Ball Center Jalen Williams Is Worth Your Attention
Jalen Williams is one of the more unique and well-rounded players in the entire NBA. When Chet Holmgren went down with an injury, circumstances ultimately forced JDub to see just how far his all-around skillset could go.
Dub started for 6 straight games leading the Thunder to a 4-2 record, I was curious as to why and what makes Williams so unique to fill this role, why the Thunder and Mark Daigneualt trusted him with this responsibility and all of the different boxes JDub checks on both sides of the floor for OKC as a super small ball center that is worth your attention.

kinda similar to ben wallace smaller but able to box out and take bigger center?
I would say he is closer to an Andre Igudola or Draymond Green type given Dub's ability to guard wings and guards too, but I see the vision for sure!
@@letstalkthunder i feel that but i was talking about paint boxing out bigger opponents like big ben did with shaq
Ahhhh I gotcha! Definitely can see that. Boxing out as a smaller player is all about technique and leverage. A strong low base like Wallace had definitely helps.
@@letstalkthunder yess
I personally love it, I hope mark keeps this lineup in his back pocket to surprise and terrorise teams at random stretches of the game
Luka never took this games seriously u can see his body language it feels like they want 8 days rest to heal their bodies for the next finals run
It makes sense celtics did it last year lost to pacers and had days rest.
Excuse’s excuses
Luka sucks
Ihart is not white 😂
I’ll take the L on that 😂 forgot about the whole iconic “bright skin” line he hit before.
@ 😂
J Dub is eeriIy reminiscent of Magic Johnson when he had to step up for an injured Kareem in the finals and won MVP.
Gotta admit, J-Dub is my favorite player on my favorite team. Classy, smart, humble, and skilled, he is the consummate team player.
The type of guy and player that every team in the NBA would love to have.
Thanks for watching! I hope you all enjoyed this one. I had a blast making it. Let me know below if you have any players, topics or more you would like me to look into for a video and I’ll try check them out!
Superb breakdown of each of the guard dawgs! This trio is a nightmare to face.
he's not that good of a defender, he flops and extends his knees so he can injured his opponent. getting away from foul calls
I believe the primary reason OKC doesn't get calls is because they don't Play Act and they don't Complain. Shouldn't be that way but it is. It's a Mindset that starts with SGA and filters throughout the squad. And guess what? I LOVE IT. Don't want 'em to change.
Excellent video regarding one of the biggest concerns right now. As you pointed out the key should be to draw more fouls. Not an easy task when more and more threepointers are shot and Lu still has no plan or any counter moves at all. Maybe Hartenstein can make a difference here since he is featured a lot as a creator. Dub for sure needs to up his FTA and has to find ways to do this. Your perspective on Casos drives is absolutely spot on. Simone with his physical profile needs to make the defense pay. Keep up the good work, you just earned a subscriber! ThunderUp⚡️
So glad to have you here! I really appreciate the in depth feedback as well. Hopefully we can see the Thunder turn the corner on this free throw free fall sooner rather than later!!
Something I've noticed is a stark difference in how Daigneault works the refs vs opposing coaches. Kerr worked the referees like a maestro Wednesday, even going so far as drawing a tech, Dub got hit in the head, knocking him out of the game, and Daigneault said nothing! It's called gamesmanship and Daigneault needs to up his game.
His new shooting form
that use of spongebob is legendary
7 vs 19 & 18 vs 40 is diabolical
Referrers call ALL THE FOULS ON THUNDER… they hardly ever go to the free throw 😮line
OKC thunder have to play teams and REFEREES too! They cheat a lot for other teams 😮
What we want is thunder fans is just consistency… SGA or Jdub will go to the bucket and get clearly fouled, ether bumped or straight up hit and there will be no foul call, but then something will happen the exact same to the other team and they get a whistle faster than I can blink… it not even about selling it cuz a blind man could see the fouls being missed, it’s clearly refs being biased or turning a blind eye
The refs just hate OKC man
Great breakdown - my suggestion is don't make it ever come down to free throws. Go into each game assuming you won't get the calls.
The NBA got to hold them back if not they would blow everybody out !
It's a small market problem. If you're going to win as a small market team there isn't going to be any help.
With how many drives we do these free throw stats are crazy
It’s simple the league doesn’t like the okc thunder probably cuz of all the assets they have idk but I would like to see at-least one game this year were they just let em play and both teams has 7 to 10 fouls a piece giving a team 40 ft attempts is nasty work
But I was told SGA was the Stalin of Free Throws.
Only YOU can stop false free throw merchant propaganda! 🐻 🔥 🌲
Despite the fact he’s led the league in drives for multiple years consecutively mind you 😂 I don’t get the shai hate at all
@@ishyameru6232 you know you're legit when you get haters.
He is terrible, its the way he baits with head whips and flops.
😂
Yes I am aware of the typo on the "all stats as of" graphic. An unfortunate typo for sure, but I am always looking ahead to the future! (definitely not trying to skip past this at all)
Don't stress. Still one of the highest quality thunder basketball channels! Great stuff as usual
People crying about typos don’t have lives. Good video.
All stats as of, checks notes, 1 month from now
An unfortunate typo smh good catch! 11/24/24***
Something weird is going on with Topic's shot mechanics. I hope he's going to use the time away to fix that.
W W W W W W W W. W W W W W W
Damn, what an adage
I have his shoes from that clip, go watch our blog about it and he gave us his shoes
I have, bro shoes from the clip😂
Oh yeh, he's back real soon. The hand is healed. He's just got to get it loose again
Like and follow for the edit duud!!! first video i watch, with something differtent. Congraaats!
Happy to have you! Thanks for the kind words!
Scores even if they can shoot over someone hate having someone in their face. In the NBA a hand up lower shooting percentage. Dort just keep his hands up. Just like the NFL and WRs they hate to be touched. Shooters hate that hand in their face. Cool start to the video. Nice job there.
Good closeouts are one of the more underrated skills guys can have. OKC does a great job to your point at getting a hand in shooter’s faces and really good contests.
Best on ball defender in the league, and has been for multiple years. People only see it now because the thunder are back to playing meaningful games
Hoping he can finally get some of the recognition he more than deserves.
Bronny listen up
Facts
Need a whole documentary on dorts first years in nba
I know the Thunder’s actual channel has one where they talk about his path to the NBA. I’m looking to do one about his shooting/offense in the next month or so!!
I find the best way to beat this kind of coverage is to have ingram set offball screens and set him some off ball screens since dort doesn’t wanna switch off if he sets good screens his teammates should in theory get open also It’s easier to run without the ball so off ball screen should make it easier to create at least a little separation
Yeah, him moving off the ball definitely was his easiest path. Unfortunately the Pelicans just didn’t have many release valves that the Thunder had to respect to really help off him when he passed. Luka obviously is infinitely better than BI, but you saw in that series how massive it was for Kyrie, PJ Washington and DJJ were just in terms of giving some floor spacing to Luka.
@ yup yup
His story is just crazy to me, the way that Lu Dort built his career essentially from the ground up and established the identity of the NBA's most annoying pest defensively is really inspiring to me, he may not have made an all-defensive team, but a lot of NBA players think he is one of the 5 best defenders in the world and they're probably right.
I totally agree on how crazy his story is. I was actually planning to do a video in the next month or so about his offensive evolution to become a major shooting threat today.
Great vid. To appreciate Shai's genius, watch how he attacks a defender in a herky-jerky fashion trying to gain a few feet of space. If he can't gain space he'll then just attack the defenders 'heavy foot'. The foot that the defender is leaning on. When you attack the heavy foot you get an extra half step lead. Most ppl can't see which is the heavy foot while watching a vid in slow-mo but SGA does it effortlessly.
His footwork is borderline flawless. A lot of people only really notice the flashy ball handlers and athletes, yet Shai gets anything wants mostly off his footwork.
Another sensational intro vid by Michael Martin. He is the KING! Also loved the Macho Man bit. Ofcourse another great breakdown too.
I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it
For the last 3 years or so, Lu has been one of, if not the best, on ball defender in the NBA, but has yet to make an All NBA Defensive Team of any type. Crazy. So good to see he is getting some recognition that all us Thunder fans have known for a long time.
I think the sad reality is that it is harder to get noticed when you aren’t on a team making deep playoff runs. But after how he defended Ingram, Luka and even back to Harden in the bubble that I think he is finally going to start getting the recognition he deserves.
All defense is basically an award given to people who have reputations of being good defenders
@@chubbymario3096 and he has a rep as one of the best perimeter defenders in the league
I thought he should’ve been made one since he got drafted honestly 🤷♂️ he been one the best clampers since his rookie season
Thanks for tuning in!! Let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas for topics you would like me to hit on and I will check them out!
45 last night.
😂😂 ‘he just moves you and there is nothing you can really do about it’. That’s definitely the general response when asked about playing against Steven Adams. 😂😂💪🏻💪🏻
Dressed like he boutta hunt some squirrels and deers
I will take SLOB wizard as a nickname over some of the ones keyboard warriors have given him since last year.
Why even say that???
