OMH Woodworks
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 มี.ค. 2017
Welcome to my channel.
A couple years ago I with my nephew talking about some of the projects I have made and he told me "I guess you found your old man hobby" so that phrase has stuck with me and when trying to come up with a name for my channel my wife suggested I use OMH for old man hobby. It is just that, my hobby. I do have a full time job and with my children in college I have a bit more time to work in the shop (my wife's garage).
I have been turning for about six years now and working on other wood working projects much longer than that. I think I have been able to make some pretty cool pieces. I have recently decided to start this channel to show others how I do things. I hope you like what you see and can at least get something useful from my videos. I can't promise a new video every week or even every month but when I am working on a project I will film it along the way and put together a video about it.
I do hope you enjoy what you see and thank you for watching!

Wood turning a simple segmented bowl

In this video I will turn a "simple " segmented bowl using my wedgie sled. It's a good project to do for your first segmented piece. Give it a try and ask any questions you may have. Thank you.

Woodturn A segmented vase

I made a vase out of a laminated maple blank I received from our local wood turning club. I decided to separate it into two pieces and make segmented rings with my wedgie sled for the middle and one for the top.
Immense!
Does anybody know of a formula for figuring out how deep you can go on an inside out turning so your edges aren't too thin but you get the biggest opening possible. I have a 5" square (4, 2 1/2" blocks. trying to get a circular opening. Of course rounding out the outside does end up taking about 3/8" from the total radius. What is the best radius of the turned circle?
Being a novice woodworker myself I found this a stunning example of high quality woodworking. One has to think ahead when making something like this. Beautiful work!
Simply Beautiful! That color changing led just adds to it! Something that you really can't put a price tag on, so you either put it in your own livingroom or give it away to someone special in your life!! So sorry for your loss. I do know that pain, it will get easier! Been 11yrs for me so far, I still miss our 'Otis'.
That is very beautiful. The multicolored LED is perfect for a Christmas ornament like that. RIP Sadie, I'm sure your family still misses you.
Beautiful!!
I love making these. This one came out great, but its massive lol. Would need a 30 foot tree to hang this bad boy on it haha.
very fun project. thank you.
That is crazy good, love it.
Very cool, I really like it. I have been turning bowls for a while, but I am just now getting ready to start turning segmented bowls and learning about it before I start. Is there a reason you used a 4 segment bottom rather than a 6 segment bottom like the rest of the bowl? Thanks
i could,nt hear what degree you set guides. for the 6 pcs
what angle is your miter sled cut at?
The project is great. I note that you are wearing a ring while turning. It is a potentially dangerous habit especially when you use thel arge hose clamps to hold your work together
Very nice
very nice, what is the size of the wood that you are starting with ?
Strange, I was thinking today, "How can i do one with a Christmas tree in the middle." And here it is. Love it.
You do excellent work 👍
The finial looks like a Hershey's kiss!
I have watched this video several times since it was posted. Enjoy it every time I watch it. Turned out great.
Thank you Bill
Very beautiful thanks for sharing.
Thank you Tony!
very nice decoration, it's really nice to have something in it. I think I want to try to make it in my video....thank you for sharing knowledge
is there a link for the led?
I bough the LED at a Michaels craft store.
I really like that you used the hose clamps, great technique!
Thanks for the inspiration and the demonstration...Kudos..
I really like the combination of Zebra wood and walnut. The Zebra wood really sets it it apart. I want to make one and have a couple questions. What is the diameter and height of the bowl? Making the bottom ring as you did will that prevent splitting and what is the base thickness. Thanks and keep the chips coming. Glen
The bowl ended up to be around seven inches diameter and about three inches tall. Making the bottom ring out of the four pieces does make it stronger and should keep it from splitting and the base was made out of 4\4 stock that is usually more than 3\4 to just under an inch. I know I just turned it to flat. Sorry I did'nt get back to you sooner thank you for watching!
Do you have a link to the app by chance Please ??
Beautiful piece, thanks for sharing 😊
So beautiful 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Hi
Hi! I looked for KEVIN NEELY APP. but can't find it! Appreciate any help!
I just searched for Kevin Neely woodturning. It is at turnedwood.com it is the segmented ring maker app.
Thanks for the cell phone info. on what angles to use! Is there a cell phone location on cutting staves?

Beautiful work and nicely executed!
Where did you get the LED item, got a link you can add to the description? Nice job, very well done.
That is one cool decoration. It’s so different from the others I’ve seen. The light really adds to the beauty. Nice work.

Its the segmented ring maker app at turnedwood.com
No Koo
You're a very good weather video
Very nice! I'm planning to attempt a segmented bowl and need to make or buy a wedge sled. Did you make or purchase your wedge template? Did you make or purchase your wedge sled? Also, the angled piece that directs your cutoffs away from the blade, how did you achieve that? Is it affixed to your throat plate? Thank you!
Go to Segeasy.com. They have free plans for building a wedgie sled and they explain the angled piece in some of their videos. They also sell wedgies for setting up proper angles for cutting segments.
What is the name of the app I cannot find it thank you
Sorry for the late response, it is the segmented ring maker app at turnedwood.com
