Activist David Gadberry debates Wally George on a woman's right to have an abortion. I hated this show as I was called in about and hour and half prior to taping to replace the person that bowed out. Had zero time to prepare for the show and had to wing it. David Gadberry

Is this the dude from cruel intentions?
This is so hard to watch.
That is dangerous
We know that
This Father is a nut job.
That's Yasmine Bleeth Baywatch? What year is this in? 1992-1993ish?
Is this available to stream anywhere?
He’d like to get to THE BOTTOM alright! 🍑 😂
It's said if a character makes you angry, the actor did a great job. He did a greatjob with "Walter"
I could've def used this as a teen. Much more poignant than the first openly gay i saw on TV on Dawson's Creek
also, on another note....having to come out in the 80's & 90's was not easy. having to come out at all is insane af. i was 7 in 92...literally 7 & i knew i was gay at that age. i legit knew i was attracted to other boys. but i was smart enough not to tailor my language in the house. tailory language around everyone. AT 7 YEARS OLD. you're not even being a kid. you are growing up really fast & being a hell of a lot smarter than other kids, so no one finds out who you are.
they say denial is the best comfort & dad is very comfortable
the music is top notch bro. why is the music from a horror move?
Watching this scene hurts me to the core, my homosexuality was discovered in my family at about the same age, by a letter that should not have been found. In a country where they would have burned the TV station that dared to air a series like this at that time. The acting is so compelling and the message so powerful. I was ashamed of myself throughout my adolescence and much of my youth for being gay, I denied it so many times that it makes my stomach turn just remembering my lack of character. I wish I had been like Billy, but no, the damage has been done. I have so much respect for the young people of today, able to fight to be who they really are.
If anyone thinks this doesn't happen in 2024, got news for ya...
This is still relevant.
W Mom, L Dad
The world under white supremacy.
What a toxic dad.
why is the dad in his pyjama pants?
Dad’s acting is AMAZING.
When I told my parents I was gay, they said yes we know and have known for years. My mother said that's nice then asked if I had a boyfriend and if so when do they get to meet him. I'm lucky because in my family we treat everybody with respect and accept everybody for who they are. I have two gay uncles my grandmothers brother and my fathers younger brother along with a few cousins a now 13 year old nephew.
The guy that played the priest is now an attorney.
As despicable as the parents are in these clips, I will say that soaps used to be like this - they had good stories, good acting, and a nice amount of energy. Tune in to the few soaps that exist today - they are boring and flat. I can tell they spend most of their time putting makeup on the actors, and very little time on writing.
Wow, things have changed
Well the kid looks perty gay to me.... just sayin'.... 🤷🏿 Personally I blame the haircut.😅
Great acting.. WOW..
Not the corny dramatic synth music 😂
Thank you for sharing these snippets of the soap opera character coming out during the early 1990s. I was a child around age 7 or 8 when this was shown on television, I didn't get to watch this because I was at daycare. however, my late Mommy loved watching soap operas so I know she had seen this. I came out to my Black American parents when I was age 23 going on 24 on National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11) 2008, I typed a letter for one parent. And I was going to tell my Mommy during a movie scene where Black Lesbian comes out to her Mother, but I was nervous, so I provided her the same letter. And a few days later, both of my parents said they still love me. 21sept24
I'm glad to see other blacks with good parents. I'm happy for you, and sorry for your lost.
10:39 damn this got me tearing up fr.
How can you be sure your gay? It was 1979 and wham bam thank you mam I was gay 👨🏼❤️👨🏻❤
I know there are pedophile priests. But Andrew Carpenter isn't a pedophile priest. He's an honorable man. Walter isn't a pedophile, but he isn't honorable. He's so full of judgment and hate he can't see anything else. I doubt the guy who plays Walter is a real homophobe. But he's a great actor. This is a powerful storyline.
What’s hysterical is that the actor playing the father looks, acts like a typical middle aged queen and his character is so anti-gay. I guess Robert Reed wasn’t available.
*This was over 30-years ago in 1992. Easy now to forget how truly terrifying and taboo this topic was back then. Unlike the 20-something's routinely portraying adolescents, Ryan was an actual senior in high school at the time. Phillippe's career (and personal life) could've been obliterated for taking such a risk. Thankfully his talent, integrity and (yes) beauty armored him against the fallout. Commentary Re: this groundbreaking role can be found in "Visible: Out on Television" here on TH-cam.*
Are they perpetually in a country club?
Try living in a town of 89 people in South Dakota and be like that kid at 12yo
For the younger ones watching, that thing Billy was talking on at the end when he was leaving a message for Andrew is called a pay phone. Before cell phones that’s what you used to call someone when you wanted to were in public and you had to insert coins to pay for the call. Primitive technology I know 😂
I was born in 2001 and, yes, I know what a payphone is. Never used one in my life, but I've seen them around in childhood and in movies. Come on, we're not that unfamiliar with analogue technology. Some of us are literally making horror content in the style of VHS recordings.
I was born in 2000 and really don't like when the older generations treat us like we're idiots. We know what a pay phone is, we know what VHS is, we know what a walkman is..etc. This condescending attitude is a huge reason why a lot of younger people are avoidant of older generations. Please stop, it's ridiculous and not even funny. Grow up
2006 kid here. Yes I know what a pay phone is.
Whatever, I’ve seen teenagers who don’t know what a landline is or how to use it. I made a joke, get over it 😤
@@eliesh3833 I really like analog horror actually. It’s like my favorite genre
This is powerful! dana t.
They wrote him out because of hate mail sad.
Thank you for uploading these clips from this storyline for people like me, who until now, had no idea about this incredible and groundbreaking piece of LGBTQ+ history on television. I was born the year this aired, and I’m in tears at how relevant and truthful the writing and portrayals are even today some 32+ years later.
The scenes are very powerful and moving, but the music almost ruins them.

He sure had nicer hair back then 😅
This time period was just after the AIDS epidemic. It was thought gay people were doomed for death from AIDS.
Oh the top quality synthetic brass at 2.15 !!😅 🤮 🤢
pure evil in human form.
Never watch that show back then but -- the dad’s ( and much of society’s) attitude is exactly why so many young people committed suicide when facing this issue.
He’s like the world’s WORST “dad”. 🤢
Reflecting on this, it looks like the father is the one who needs therapy!
When I came out to my parents in 1979, it was not nearly as dramatic as this lol
I've been in love with Ryan for years........ how did I not know about this?!?!?! ❤
