Can shred guitarists play with feel and emotion?
Just sharing a few thoughts on a subject I have had several conversations about over the years; Can shredders play with or do they play with feel? This is a subjective issue so I thought I would add my dogmatic two cents. We will address the subject head on and then play a little bit with an emphasis on feel and perhaps shockingly, even a little taste. Yikes.
A special shout out to YT Jam Tracks for providing the backing track. He is doing a wonderful service for musicians everywhere. Be sure to follow his channel. Here is the link to the track:

I am playing a Leo Jaymes Monsoon through a Headrush MX-5 modeler. I am using the Plexi model and for a little different flavor I added some doubling which fattens up the tone a little bit.
Also, any critical sentiments that I share are subjective and they are not meant to be hurtful.

Firefly FFLX Explorer Guitar: Review and Shred Test
มุมมอง 7452 หลายเดือนก่อน
Let's check out the Firefly FFLX. This incredibly affordable guitar is equally impressive with it's style, build quality, appointments, and sound. Of course I will talk too much, play too much, and probably play the same licks that I always do. I might have a new one or two. Anyway, let me know what you think in the comment section. I really appreciate you stopping by. A special thanks to YT Ja...
57 dollar kit guitar meets SHRED!!
มุมมอง 7207 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hello all. It has been a long time. Today we look at a $57.00 kit guitar that I assembled. Let's put it through the shred test. A little catch up chat, some playing, some more playing and a very strange guest stops by unexpectedly. A special thanks to YT Jamtracks for the use of the backing track. I hope that somebody enjoys this slop fest of shred on a hyper budget.
Why I never "made it" as a professional guitar player.
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Just taking a few moments to share some personal thoughts about why I think I never "made it" as a professional guitarist. This video is a bit introspective and hopefully interesting. Of course there is some obligatory guitar playing or else it would be completely boring. Thanks to YT Jam Tracks for the backing track. He does great work.

Well I stumbled upon these strings on the information super highway and ordered a set to check out. I loaded these bad boys on a scalloped neck Strat to see what happened and the results are pretty cool. Throw in a little zombie/death makeup and you have yourself a deadly hyper light gauge video review. Here is the link to my demo of the Yngwie Malmsteen signature strings: th-cam.com/video/wvQB...

This video is a game changer like everything else on TH-cam. Not really. It seems like everything is a game changer now. We will take a look at that narrative, maybe debunk it and look at a few authentic game changers. We might even play for a couple of minutes.

This is pretty much what it looks like when putting together a video for my channel. Certainly it is rarely a first take whether it is speaking or playing. I think I have gotten a play through on the second or third attempt before but not every time. A special thank you to Rob Galley for the backing track. Epic "Daily Routine" video of a Neo Classical Heavy Metal guitar player!

I thought I would share some daily routines with you. It is important as you influence society that you have a strong constitution of actions throughout the day to keep yourself "in the game". Now, the tongue is really in the cheek on this one so don't take it too seriously. If you want to skip past the nonsense go to the 12:05 for some playing. How YouTube has changed learning and teaching the guitar!
มุมมอง 4423 ปีที่แล้ว
How we learn guitar and how guitar is taught today is vastly different than what guitarists were familiar with not too terribly long ago. This is a bit of a verbose overview of how that process has changed particularly over the last couple of decades. These are my personal thoughts. I applaud all who love the craft and whilst I may take some shots it is not without appreciation for what everyon...

Neo-Classical over Neo-Classical
มุมมอง 4883 ปีที่แล้ว
I am really enjoying the instrument again. So here is just a little speedy improv with plenty of mistakes, repetitious runs, redundant displays of the two licks that I know and some bad timing. But it is fun. A very special thanks to N&MCreation for the backing track. Tons of free backing tracks and they are all of the highest quality and they freely share them. You’re a beast brother. Long time no talk. Good to see you killing it!
I've said it before, the best vibrato...wait for it...MICHAEL SCHENKER. There is him, and then everyone else.
These guitars have gone way up since your video. It's now $2300 for a new one. I got a used one recently for $1700 plus shipping and taxes.
Alter Bridge can, the rest IDK
Shawn Lane Had It All😊😊😊❤❤❤
I Always love your subgects, your playing and your general approach....Check this Greek guy Called Antonio Panos Arvanitis
@@stormcather thanks a ton for watching. Yes, I am familiar with Panos, he is an incredible player. Nothing but fire. Great player. Cesario Filho is another guy from Brazil. Monster player, great vibrato, unbelievable technique, sounds identical to early Yngwie when he was at the absolute top of his game.
@johnnyanderson8901 can you re upload the boss katana 50 demo of you playing over that vinnie something thing track. The track was called dark country. It was on your channel about three years ago . That's the reason I subscribed to your channel. Please upload the video and tell us the name of the channel the backing track came from. When you upload can you just upload you playing over the track. In the video you were playing a blond yngwie strat. In one part of the video you had on a black and white stripped shirt. Please upload it with just da playing 😊
Love technique but got to have feel too. Speed, for me, denotes feeling as well, of exhilaration, danger, and tension, all leading up to a glorious bend.
John fruisciante kills me with his weak bends and no vibrato
Jake E Lee and George Lynch come to mind with emotion. For new kids out there you should do a lick video with no vibrato and then the same lick with vibrato so they and I can compare the feeling!! Cheers to you!! 🇺🇸
Thank you sir for stopping by. Always a pleasure. Those are great examples. Jake and George can absolutely make it sing.
Dreaming YJM off the Odyssey album
nice!
Vibrato is key for me! I don’t care about ripping notes. You asked about people to check out. Probably have but Marcus Lavendell who obviously has Yngwie going but his vibrato is the best I’ve heard and seen on here. Too bad he hasn’t been active in a long time.😢
panos
Panos rocks!!! Check out his video called bend and vibrato
Warren DeMartini is my emotional shreder .. I hear it in every solo along with Randy Rhoads , but my broccoli 🥦 John 5 .. and he can play anything and play it perfect , but I just don't feel anything ...
Joe Stump has got plenty of slower stuff and certainly faster stuff. Jetaime comes to mind.
Joe stump has loads of feel. Jetamine is one of my favorite songs. Check out his song road to ruin
Kirk Hammet has been accused of having a horrible vibrato, and I kind of agree. He does have memorable solos and who's going to dispute his resume?
My fav guitar videos, love to watch this guy melt my face off
😂 hahaha that was bloody funny P.s. awesome playing 👌
Sounds amazing! You’ve got the touch.
New favorite gutair TH-camr
Got one great guitar 🎸 your right put pick ups in it out of the box ,didn’t like me to close to the amp , made some noise. Fixed that set up , and plays fine you sad butter and I’m so happy I got it . Thanks for the review. ❤️ I love it,
Is this a smaller guitar than an Explorer? I'm a big guy and want a big guitar. lol.
@@captainkirk70 that is a good question. I honestly don't know. I think I have only held a real explorer maybe once or twice in my life. I held an Ibanez explorer type once. I want to say that the body might be a little bit smaller but I cannot confirm that. Even so, it plays great and it is a beautiful guitar. You could try it and return it if it didn't work out. Also, thanks for watching.
@@johnnyanderson8901 You're welcome! thanks for the answer. I'm 6'2 and 220lbs. Don't want it to look like a toy. I can't find the measurements. They look fine on some reviewers but I thought it looked a little small on you.
@@captainkirk70 I am a little over 6'1" and about 224 just for perspective. I need to lose some weight. 🙂

HI Jonny, wud u wanna sell one of your Chinese YJM fenders?
The last time I saw your vids you had just had surgery . Glad you’re back!
Love your vids Johnny, quick question: Are you still using the extra heavy 346 style picks from InTuneGP? Celluloid or Tortex? Thinking of ordering some, thx
First and foremost, thank you for watching. I really appreciate it. Yes, I am still using the 346 style that I ordered from InTuneGP. And I do prefer the Celluloid. I think I have placed two orders over the years. I still like to sand and sharpen the points and it seems to reduce the amount of resistance. It really makes a difference.
@@johnnyanderson8901 - Thank you so much. Gonna try a bag of the extra heavy celluloid myself.... just gotta think of something to put on it. Honestly, 100 picks for $38 with a design is not bad at all. Love your content and presentation. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
Great work. Looks and sounds like a nice guitar.
Is the fretboard ebony?

Hell yeah! Hey Johnny
Really good to see you Johnny!!! 😊
Your a talented musician and can make anything sound good! I have a few of these budget friendly guitars, mainly because I enjoy working on them and turning them into playable guitars. It's amazing to see what they're capable of in your hands.
That body shape is insane, it sounds good and the price is right.... i think my wife is getting angry again! 😲
So glad your back!! Rock that thang!!
Good to see you again
I always appreciate your content. I do have 5 maple fretboard Mitchell HD400’s, lol. Yes, I have swapped out the pickups on the 3 green ones even though the original pickups were very good. I’m on the verge of picking up a Westcreek Revenge, a variation of an explorer. You’re right about stewardship. I did today however pick up a Neal Moser guitar. A mid to late 80’s tele body, single pickup & Floyd Rose EVH inspired guitar with a reverse Jackson style headstock in great shape. Strictly investment. Good stewardship. Keep reading your Bible 🎸
Great, I sincerely hope that your hobby can bring you more happiness.
So great. Thank you for bringing us such beautiful music.😊

Good video, bro. That's some fine shredding. I like the breakdown of this Yinwie Malmsteen scalloped American made fender stratocaster. I have a less experienced version of this guitar. If I wanted to get the top quality fender I would buy that. I don't play ▶ out and I do have a fine collection of hand made custom made instruments. All I can say is a video well done. ✌
